UFO shape helps it to be able to stay on the ground and not flipped upside down by shockwave front because aerodynamics. Obviously, the shockwave is not supposed to come from an atomic bomb exploding in a meter or 100 meters of the tank, that is pretty tough to defend from.
Obj-279 was made in soviet onion as a special tank that could accept a battle in nuclear habitat. Btw, the crew stays in a special capsule, so they cant die after nuke

The 279 has to be the last heavy tank in warthunder that actually can fight like a heavy tank. I swear, I push anything in my 279 and without any fear I watch as dozens of rounds bounce throughout the match until some random ass helo smacks me XD
Sounds like people don't know how to shoot the not sloped areas... Manlet, turret, or where the slopes meet are your best bets against this tank, even the MG port in the turret itself. But nope people will shoot at the sloped section still. Competent Tiger players see the same shit, especially H1 users who have a giant ass manlet that is literally the best weak spot you could ask for. Angle slightly, and people will continue shooting at the flat plates and bounce multiple shots.
@@MCshadr217 its more knowing enemy weaponry. for example, the XM1s top round cannot pen 99% of the 279. and while moving might as well make that even lower. i know this fact and push the XM1 and other tanks than use the same round with no issue or worry. but on the other hand a tank like the L44 can pen me with relative ease in most places and but can still bounce most of the time. the 279 is much harder to crack than you think for top tiers dart rounds. the turret is damn near unpennable even at the gun port. the only spot a XM1 can pen the 279 reliably would be a small little flat parascope point on the top right of the turret. and i mean the spot is TINY. the mantlet on the 279 is shaky at best and rarely gets penned more times than not. the other spot would be the drivers port. but that spot again, is very shakey and inconcistent, especially with range and or movement. just "shooting where sloped areas meet" isnt consistent against a 279 in most tanks. you need a good gun with even better aim to kill it reliably. if i often take 30+ rounds in a match with plenty being from the side with ease, the tank has good armour. because out of 30 shots, at least a handful of those were made from good players. and on top of that. the 279s armour overall is good enough that i can even tank TOW shots with high rates of success with little to no damage. for a tank that has no composite and only some spaced armour at certaint spots, i believe thats pretty undeniable prove the 279 is strong. you can say every heavy tank can be killed with a well placed shot. and that is true. but the whole thing about heavy tanks in warthunder is their weakspots are small and difficult to reliable hit, that is if your a good heavy tank. tanks like the B1 bis, T32E1, Jumbo, Tiger 1 and 2, and other heavy tanks all can be killed with one well placed shot, but they are still good because those spots are small if you know how to use your tank. its like saying "like tanks are useless because they can be shot anywhere and killed" while disregarding the light tanks strengths in staying hidden and its speed. maybe you dont have the 279 to see how good its armour is, and the 279 isnt a extremely common tank at the end of the day, but the 279 is a wonderful example of a capable heavy tank used right. especially if you know, understand, and exploit your enemys weaknessess effectively, just like every ither heavy tank in game
