HOORAY, BUMI IS HERE!! Also major props to Katara in this episode for just picking up the crazy last name Aang made up on the spot without any hesitation or stuttering.
My theory (outside of Bumi obviously recognizing Aang by appearance, despite it being 100 years later) is that Bumi also caught on by Aang's last name. He rattled it off like it was nothing, just like Aang did on the spot, which makes me think it was a name Aang used as a disguise in the past before when visiting Bumi.
It's interesting to note that each of the three challenges would be simple to pass if he had learned a different element. The first could've easily been solved with water bending. Catching Flopsy would've been simple with earth bending. Bumi was taunting Aang to attack, which is the purpose of fire bending. Not only was he messing with Aang, he was feeling out how much he had learned.
I like the worldbuilding in this episode. Omashu is a city that can only exist thanks to earthbending. It has been build on an inaccessible hill, possibly raised by earthbending, it has a logistic system operated by earthbending, stone buildings that looked molded instead of build, thanks to earthbending. Even the gate can only be opened by earthbending. It really shows how the Earth Kingdom managed to be so large and still unconquered by the fire nation for 100+ years.
Bhumi is a Sanskrit word, means Earth. Sanskrit has many descendants, like Indian Language, Indonesian Language, Javanese Language, Malay Language, etc. Any fan who speaks these languages when they heard Aang had a friend named _"Bhumi"_ would instantly know that he must be a notable Earth Bender.
I once thought it would be fun to make a D&D character by the name of Bannakaffalatta Pippinpadaloxicopolis who would reject any attempt at a nickname. I never got to play him in anything, but I thought it amusing.
This was the very first episode were i got tears in my eyes back then.. I don't know why, but it was important to Aang that.. not all of his friends are dead. Like you Bethany mention it. Bumi is a mad (genius) king but not evil, he is excentric. I like him a lot. He reminds me of Master Roshi, but written way better and no pervert stuff.
Look at this city. The level of quality and worldbuilding is outstanding, not just for its time, for now and forever. This is what you get, when people and the team who made this.. "care" about their world and characters.
No deep lore ponderings here just Bumi being a goofy guy. Also the undisputed goat the cabbage merchant if he whent all out he could easily solo the verse.
I've been rewatching the series prompted by your reactions. I've loved this show since I was a kid and it has only more to offer to an adult mind. I think you will really enjoy this one.
I like you, especially the way you react. I love your reactions to the amazing digital circus and murder drones and so on. I also asked you to watch a cartoon like angel's friends , it's very cool, and it's about love. But you did not reply to the comment under the last video (Also sorry if there are mistakes, I translate through Google translator)
Glad you are enjoying the reactions! We will add Angel's friends to our request list, but we get a lot of requests and there are a lot of shows we want to check out so can't promise a reaction 🙂🤗
Just let them watch it the same as we did the first time, decide for themselves. It might be a B grade episode in an A+ series but it's not like it's a real time suck just 20 mins... For other series with massive "what-if scenario" filler arcs that get reset in the end, it would make sense but telling someone to skip episodes for ATLA is ridiculous imo
We aren't going to skip episodes, just like we've been watching the filler in Dragon Ball Super. We want the full experience and it also helps being able to watch another episode right away if an episode happens to be unsatisfying 🤗
if it weren't for Iroh, this guy would be the best old dude in the franchise
Facts!
Word
True, but I feel a certain swordsman in Book 3 ranks up there as well
@@Mrryn a certain couple fire benders too.
Bumi is a little more impressive when you realize he's like 114 years old
Got that old man strength
Is nobody going to credit Kent for NAILING Bumi on sight? He figured out who he was in like, a second.
Thanks 🤗
Didn't we all? He looked pretty much the same as his younger self
@papej3290 I can tell you from my own experience and watching several reactions... no. No, we didn't all.

Very true. We would've totally messed up that crazy last name 😂🤗

The reveal of Aang still having a living friend from before the ice always gets me.
1:16 Oh the Cabbage man! 😂

And then later we find out the story of how it came to be as well ♥
Iroh, Bumi, Cabbage Man = funniest men in the franchise
1:09 Enter the Cabbag Merchant. Arguably the best, what would it be, tertiary(?)-level, character in the show.
Came here to say the same thing!
Thanks for that info 😀
Also, that means, Sokka wasn't too far off with "Rocky" 😉
I once thought it would be fun to make a D&D character by the name of Bannakaffalatta Pippinpadaloxicopolis who would reject any attempt at a nickname. I never got to play him in anything, but I thought it amusing.
2 of my fav shows
that was most impressive, noticing Bumi. 3:39 that was fast!
and we've met the cabbage merchant!
7:54 I’ve been saying Flopsie looks like a Rajang to my Friends since High school. Lol I can’t believe someone else see it too.
Can I just say, your pup is ADORABOBBLE!!!
Totes
Thanks 😊 🐶
I love this episode because Bumi knew who Aang was the whole time. That's why he chose to mess with him.
😊

I like to imagine that Aang had another friend back in the day naked Bonzu Pippenpaddleopsocopolis.
We can get on board with that lore 🙂
Used to be a very common Earth Kingdom name, clearly.
@@wombataldebaran9686 I came up with the theory végétaux out would make it twice that Aang chose an old friend's name as a disguise.
10:52
There is a hidden joke here. "Bumi" means earth in Sanskrit and child languages.
Many words from Avatar are taken from Sanskrit.
My Cabbages
The fact that Katara said that last name so effortlessly is incredible.
One of the best things about the world of ATLA is the animals
Bumi is one of the most fun characters I've seen in a show. A crazy, yet wise and wholesome old dude who can still kick ass with the best of them.
Look at this city. The level of quality and worldbuilding is outstanding, not just for its time, for now and forever. This is what you get, when people and the team who made this.. "care" about their world and characters.
Well said, Sharky 🙂
Bonzoo...Pippenpaddleopsocopolis...THE THIRD!
1:18 remember this moment ya’ll 😁
Ahhh yes, the beginning of a legend, the legend of the Cabbage Bend- I mean the Cabbage Merchant.
11:30 Now this, puts a smile on my face 😌
I'm very surprised you guys hadn't watched this already. But that means I get to watch these now! Woo! Best show of all time.
yeah we missed out. Have only heard great things about it and so far it delivers 🤩
No deep lore ponderings here just Bumi being a goofy guy. Also the undisputed goat the cabbage merchant if he whent all out he could easily solo the verse.
8:44 Let the battle begin! 🙏🏽💪
And now we meet the real main character of the series and his cabbages
I've been rewatching the series prompted by your reactions. I've loved this show since I was a kid and it has only more to offer to an adult mind. I think you will really enjoy this one.

Are we advising them to skip the Great Divide or no?
Just let them watch it the same as we did the first time, decide for themselves. It might be a B grade episode in an A+ series but it's not like it's a real time suck just 20 mins...
