Thanks for the great set of videos! I would love to see information about durability. We are talking about tires that really only shine on a track. aside from the 4s. Not many people would buy these tires if they were NOT taking them to the track, so that's a given. Most of us track rats would give up 1-3 tenths for a tire that lasts longer (e.g. 20% longer on these tires could result in another track day on the same tires). However, we wouldn't likely give up 1 second. So, since the top tires are all very close, would be great to know what lasts longer. Some before/after tread depth measurements would have added some great info to this video, as well as the relative wear across the tire. For example, did some of the tires wear more on the outer edges? Side to side wear on a tire like this is very important to a test like this, as that's one of the things we all deal with if using this class of tires for track/street use.
Excellent review guys, thanks! On my M240i I use Potenza sport for daily drive and the Potenza 71RS for track day and I just enjoy this combo. The Potenza Sport are less comfortable than Michelin or GY, for example, but it pays off in all other areas, and the 71RS is a fantastic tyre for track days that just keep it's high performance for the whole track day.
ECS is a class below, in what Tire Rack calls "Max Performance Summer." Continental's 200tw is the ExtremeContact Force, and I would definitely have liked to see that. Potenza Race and Supercar 3 would have been good to see as well. It seems like this lineup was mostly focused on the "super 200" time attack cheater tires.
I went to SCCA Solo Nats in Beeville this year. I had the Falken RT660. Everyone else in my class was running the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS. I finished last. Got a set of the Potenza's and immediately jumped up to 3'rd in a regional event.
We're so happy to hear the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS hit the mark for you! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and the community.
We don’t currently test for longevity and wear per set, as it’s outside of the current scope of testing. Our drivers are targeting consistency when running laps, and since we’re not over-driving the tires and the most each tire set experiences is typically 8 recorded laps, our current methodology doesn’t create enough measurable evolution to report. It’s definitely on our minds, though, thanks for the question.
I switched from Hankook RS4 to Falken RT660 to Nankang CRS tires. Huge improvements every step of the way. I can't wait for the new Hoosier 200tw tires!
@@jpwilliams5264 RS4 is way more durable. Two years of practice track days and the third year of competition. They are heat cycled out (grip levels dropped) right now but have plenty of treadlife left. I use them for storage and daily driving on the 4th year. The CRS is way faster and way grippier. Only lasted 6 track days this summer and are completely bald. Try to find Continental Extreme Contact FORCE. They are a new tire technology so faster and last longer than RS4.
@@pcsullog Tire rack as always always always tested using off-the-shelf replacements. OE tires as you said are completely different and are therefore useless as benchmarks in tire-to-tire comparison tests.
I found CR-S to be confidence-inspiring and generally very precise, tyre that is very progressive and easy to catch when sliding. And it does like to slide in a good way. The only negative is that it takes a few laps to turn on but when it does, you can torture it for a long time.
Liked the CRS. 6 Track days, daily 5k miles… maxxis rc1 6 track days 2k daily. Both heat cycled out before wearing out.Time attack pro 4 track days and 1k daily and tire is getting significantly harder.! Wagon wheels compared to daily 4S. Was fastest of all on first day out, now .half of the 5/32 thread is gone. Needs a couple more pounds than others..34+ hot on 3k lbs car .
We want our results to be applicable to as wide a range of viewers as possible, and any results we may find for the OE BMW tire would only be accurate for that specific SKU. We don’t test vehicle-specific tires because we’re not testing tires for the BMW M2. The M2 is just the test platform. We’re testing tires for the purpose of broad application, tires that you might want to put on your vehicle, or any vehicle. Testing a BMW-specific tire would be nice information for those drivers specifically, but the results would not be applicable for everyone else.
@@tireracksure I know what the test is for but why not just add a test for the tires that came on the car? The video is already out. Which is why I said can you do that? I mean you already are 90% of the way there by owning the tired and the car.
I get about 5000 miles rear/10,000 miles front on the RE71RS on a 900 hp CTSV. Performance starts dropping after the first 2k-3k street miles though. The RT660 had better tread wear but they were heat cycled out by the same mileage as the Potenzas.
I get about 15,000 miles out of a set of AD09 if I don't have any trackdays. With 2-3 trackdays, it's about 10,000 miles a set, this is on a heavy car like a Lexus ISF
Yeah, I get 3 trackdays and about 10,000 street miles out of a set, on an R35 GTR which eats tyres. It's a great compromise if you only want to have one set of wheels and tyres to do it all. Wet grip in deep water isn't so hot though, as stated in the test.
Yes. I like that they are an endurance tire that the reviewers think is fun, predictable, and has great steering feel. Pretty much everything I would want for a sports car that doesn’t see much rain!
Our test wheels are 19x10 ET21 OZ Estrema GT HLT in a Hyper Titanium finish. We have the square fitment listed as a “Race” application for the vehicle, so unfortunately right now it doesn’t display on the site when searching by Year/Make/Model. If you want to match our setup, you can always call in and talk to one of our friendly Sales Specialists.
I wish they would test the tires against the OEM BMW Star tires. BMW Star tires are not your normal tire you buy. The Michelin PS4S is a mix between a regular PS4S and a Sport Cup2.
The BMW OE tire is unique in the Pilot Sport 4S line. We want our results to be applicable to as wide a range of viewers as possible, and any results we may find for the OE BMW tire would only be accurate for that specific SKU. We don’t test vehicle-specific tires because we’re not testing tires for the BMW M2. The M2 is just the test platform. 🤷♂️ Super weird considering there's even an OEM * spec for the M2. It's an expensive tire so it would be nice to know if it's worth the extra money vs the ones in this test.
@@ixD9 We don’t test vehicle-specific tire specs generally because our aim is to have the results be broadly applicable to all drivers. The M2, in this case, is just the test platform. The Cup 2 isn’t available in a non-OE spec in our test size, so unfortunately, it didn’t make the cut.
Evaluating longevity is outside the scope of our normal testing. However, similar to any tire, the mileage you obtain from any of the tire models tested will largely depend on how you use them.
@@tirerack since the tires in your test all start new, and they exprience a similar number of laps, you can measure the tread depth before and after the tests. That way you'd be able to quantify how much more life an endurance tire like the ad09 has over the rest.
We are sorry to hear you feel this way. We wish we could test every tire, but unfortunately there has to be a limit just to keep a test manageable and consistent.

PS4S but no Conti ExtremeContact Sport 02?
This is more of a 200tw tire comparison. PS4S is mostly there as a 300tw reference
