    I haven't seen one of those demister bar heaters for years! . Other ones were like a clear plastic screen that you stuck on the rear window.

    I’m fairly certain that that Bayview Ford dealer in Peterhead has been mentioned on RUclips before. There was a car that was first registered on the south coast of England but came from Peterhead. They must have been the main distributors or something.

    Fitzee's Fabrication is master of the "cut and butt" repair...And the use of shelving for his new metal! Better invest in another shelving unit or three! LOL Good work!

      Hi Lens. Yeah, I've heard Fitzee mentioned and need to check him out. You're right, some more shelves would be useful I think.

    What a refreshing change to see make do and mend instead of ££££ restore. Era appropriate I would think.

      Hi! yes, make do and mend more or less sums it up. Thanks for watching.

      Thanks Colin. I'm enjoying it also, so far. I'm not looking forward to difficult welding under the floor, though.

    I had a 1961 100E Popular Deluxe. Not as bad as yours but rotten in all the usual places. Love watching this as always had a soft spot for these Cars.

    Mart , new brakes and fix any rust that you need to make it safe , then drive it!

      Hi Brendan. That is my rough plan. I expect mission creep to kick in, as always.

    Cool, I repaired a 1956 VW last year in nine weeks. All rust repairs I did like we did in the seventies, overlapping metal spot welds and sealing it with body sealer. And then renewed brakes and steering parts, put in a "new" good old engine.
    Drove over the summer, then sold it telling the new owner exactly what I'd done. So now he can decide to do a full restoration or just drive it :-) Repaired not restored is my motto.

      @MartsGarage  Год назад +1

      I remember you mentioning that one, Lars. I love a fixer upper. I couldn't restore anything. Just far too expensive. Restore to roadworthy condition is as far as it goes here, too.

    Great work guys ,this is a dejavu video down memory Lane for me with a 58 black Anglia that I bought from the local training college in Liverpool for around £50 in 1982,wanted a tiny plate weld on drop sill by spring hanger .Ran well as it had been well serviced by mechanic apprentices with points plugs and oil changed on an almost daily basis.Thanks for the upload

    With all the rust it reminds me of a former brother in law. He had his sisters 1957 Ford Fairlane in 1970. The body was badly rusted at the body mounts. He took a sharp corner and the body rear end shifted off the frame.He was a strong guy so he lifted the body back into position.😂

    Great progress! You don't waste any time in getting after it and I like your plan of just making it structurally sound again without doing a full rotisserie rebuild. Thanks for the mention too, I definitely recommend Coldwarmotors and RAC garage

      Hi Kyle thanks for watching. I discovered yesterday my upside down welding skills are woefully lacking so need to get those in check as a lot of the welding will be overhead. Any tips? (Mig).

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling Год назад +1

      @MartsGarage lots of practice on scrap pieces the same thickness as what you will be welding on the car. Clamp them above you at the workbench to simulate an overhead weld. Sometimes it helps to play around with the voltage/wire speed settings as you're trying to push the wire uphill. If you're getting porosity you can also bump the gas flow up a couple ticks. At the end it just comes down to practice, took me a couple years of welding on cars before I could finally get a decent overhead weld.

    I wish I had your determination. I sold off a car last year with less rust, due to rust issues I wasn't ready to tackle. It's a neat little car, as an American, one that's unfamiliar to me. For all this work, do you have a title? Is it important in England?

    • @MartsGarage
      @MartsGarage  Год назад

      Hello Devin. Yes, the rust is daunting. I'm not looking forward to some of the underneath jobs. The car came with a registration document (title). It's all computerised and the ownership passed to me with a new document in my name. Registration of an import or car with no document is not normally a problem, Just have a few hoops to jump through, which may mean having the vehicle inspected. Thanks for watching.

    Nicely done Mart.. i think the the bigger the patch panels the better they look IMO. Are you going to gas weld the seems/butt joints?

    • @MartsGarage
      @MartsGarage  Год назад

      Thanks Kevin. I don't intend to gas weld, I get too much distortion. I'm experimenting and trying to get a better mig technique.

    I think your plan is the only way to go. A 'proper' restoration would cost more than it would ever be worth. They were cheap cars for the masses. I like them because of that. Do I want one? Hmm... Think I'll stick to the 13 year old Mazda 2... Episode 4 awaits... 👍

      Yeah, it happened to a lot of them. Problem was, a lot of the dealings were sketchy and the cars "disappeared" afterwards.
