Most annoying thing (non-safety related) that I saw at a public range was the bozo who loaded a 3” magnum slug into a shotgun and let the girl shoot it without any warning or experience. Must have bruised her massively as it wasn’t well shouldered and almost knocked her on her butt. She wasn’t happy and probably has become an anti-gun person all because of one jack-ass who thought it was funny…

Funny you say that because multiple studies and experiments have been done where they compare the academic performances of students with attractive teachers and those with average or unattractive teachers, all female since the vast majority of teachers in grade schools are female. What they found is that little boys and little girls both did significantly better on tests, paid more attention, more of them did their homework, and their attendance was better too compared to students who have average or unattractive female teachers. The boys are a bit smitten and show up because they think their teacher is pretty and the girls show up for the same reason and because they want to emulate themselves after her. It's definitely true.

At one range I used to frequent, a guy living close to it would come by when he heard fire, then try to distract us while his wife would scavenge the brass. We would police our brass before they would show up, and sprinkle the ground with berdan-primed cases and steel cases. After a few trips to the range, his wife recognized us and told her husband she refused to pick up our brass!
In order to have even more fun, we brought muzzle loaders.

@@DareToBeDeviantI seriously doubt anyone “hated” you for doing literally nothing wrong.
But anyway it’s not a sin for your gun range to turn a profit and it’s not a crime for them to supply hand loaders with used cases either.
Feeding the hand loaders cases so they can do their thing at minimal cost helps reduce the cost of the hobby for everyone involved in it.
      Including you.
For every round they reload for someone’s plinking session, that leaves one more factory loaded cartridge left on the shelf for whoever who wants it. The more there are left on the shelf….shows lower demand…. lower prices.
Don’t have to think very hard to see the ignorance in hindering the reloading guys, even from a strictly factory loaded ammo shooters perspective, reloaders are obviously providing a beneficial service to the community and overall they have a positive impact on the hobby, enabling people to practice, train and enjoy plinking more than they could of if there were no hand loaders and factory loaded ammo was alone supplying the entire market.
And acting like you don’t want your personal range to turn a profit but expect them to remain open to serve you is a particularly short sighted level of entitlement usually only found in the youngest generation of shooters.

I was a small kid at 12 and had a difficult enough time properly gripping my brother's Beretta 92. That Desert Eagle was huge in comparison, so I figured with that recoil I'd probably not be able to keep ahold of it. But ya, I see your point. It's almost like the goobers who hand their girlfriends a 10 gauge double barrel then laugh when the girls blow both barrels and get knocked on their asses. Not responsible at all.
These days I have a Beretta of my own (not a 92), a precision rifle, and a turkey gun. I bought my wife her own 12 gauge and recently had the satisfaction of taking her to feed it for the first time. Now she's in love with that shotgun. She finds the recoil on it more direct and easier to control than my pistol.

I think a lot of people feel the same, and I love talking to people about their own arms and collections; if they don't mind you shooting their gun they'll probably offer to let you while you're talking about it.

I respectfully disagree. If someone is openly admiring my weapon, but not bothering me, I'm always happy to let them give it a try. (And in many cases, I've had the opportunity to shoot guns I would've never had the chance, for example, a pristine 1944 Walther P-38.) Especially if it's something I know you could never rent, like a custom Atlas 1911, I'm always willing for others to see what all the hype is about. Another example is when I traded shots with my range neighbor a HK P7M8 for his Smith and Wesson 500. After only one round, I knew it was not something I'd ever buy. Similarly, I doubt anyone has ever bothered someone at a range to shoot their Glock 19.
Finally, I would think Alex would get 1000 folks bothering her at the range for every one bothering this fat, old dude, so I understand why she has this one on this list. (But if folks only knew what an incredible shooter I am, I bet they would bother me way more for advice - ha!!)

Now my complaint was with the RSO who went full Drill Sergeant on 2 new shooters. Completely embarrassing them, and possibly ruining any thoughts of coming back to learn. Anyways, in my 10 months of employment there I personally witnessed first hand all those traits of what not to do while at the shooting range. You at least made it comedic.
Have a great rest of your day and week.
    God bless you Zedra.
    Take care!

The range i used to go to was an open firing pit with out any real designated shooting lanes. I got out there first and set up my "lane" after about 20 mines another vehicle shows up and starts to set up. No issue plenty of room, however this person setups at an angle and behind to my left which results in my lane being down to the right of his lane. He also decided to hand his metal target from a tree the did not have any dirt wall or burm behind it. He started firing a larger caliber rifle and I could here some shrapnel boungs of my car. His second shot I feel something bounce my neck. I yell at him that I am getting hit with something from his target and he tells me "tough shit, just leave." I packed up and left and as I was leaving, an Oregon State Forest Ranger drive by and chewed the guy for having an improper firing lane then told him to leave or be fined. Drives me up the wall when gun owners DO NOT take the time to be reasonable and responsible with their firearms.

The range I go to has lanes already set up. There's around 6 lanes for the 200 yards, 10 for the 100 yard, and maybe 5 for 50 yards. But anyway it astonishes me how many people can't count when they set up there target in relation to the bench they're at. I had people hitting my target and when telling them to pay attention to where they're shooting they get all pissy.

I have called out the RSO to the bench where the shooters had no conception of muzzle control. One of them swept his muzzle across my location, with his finger on the trigger. I did not address these guys directly as sometimes they get offended by thinking that they know better, let the authorities step in.
Another time I inquired of a young man what type of rifle he was shooting. I asked him only because I notice that the brass he was ejecting had a funny shoulder and very short neck. His ammo was 300Win Mag, but his rifle was a Weatherby. The brass was fire-forming in the Weatherby chamber. I suggested that he not fire any more rounds on the grounds of mismatched ammo and possible undue consequences. He agreed and packed up. Its hard not to try to offer advice to shooters that are struggling with their shooting. When asked and if I can help I will, else I would advise them to ask the rangemaster.

As long as you are qualified to own a handgun, go to a local dealer and check some out that would fit your price range, then make sure it feels comfortable in your hand. Pawn shops are also good for a nice condition used pistol and may be more affordable, but I wouldn’t skimp too much on the quality, or just wait to save a few more bucks for a reliable name brand handgun. I would suggest a 9mm because of the access to ammo and usually has less recoil than a larger caliber handgun. A .380 (basically a 9mm caliber but smaller cartridge and not quite as powerful as a 9mm) is also a nice gun to shoot and nice for self defense. Take a safety course and you will get properly trained in the classroom and at the range! Bring a friend to have a partner when you practice!

There I was, plinking along with my .22. Range master calls time, and we all set down our guns. He comes along and checks (as you do), and we all go down range to check/replace our targets. We all get back behind the line. So far, so good. I put my .22 in the case and pull out my .270...which looked almost identical to my .22. Now at this point, I wanna say I wasn't trying to be an asshole. the .270 was new, and I was just going to sight it in. Range master says go and......BOOM. Guy, in the lane baside me says "HOLY SHIT! What are you shooting out of that .22!?
Turned out, in the lane beside me was a grandfather and father trying to teach a kid (about 7-8) to shoot. They ask me if I would stop shooting the .270 because I was scaring the kid. No worries. Packed my stuff, tiped my hat and said good job raising that kid.

Number 2 is definitely a pet peeve of mine and one of the 3 cardinal rules one should always follow. So far, I haven't really ran into any of the other issues mentioned on this video. When I shoot some of my bigger pistols such as the .50AE or .500 Magnum, I usually expect someone to ask if they can shoot it. After all, hearing the sound of one go off, you kinda draw some attention lol. Now obviously if you look nervous or uneasy or you're not experienced, then I'd say no.

@@robertsears8323 some ranges having the slide locked back is part of their rules and regulations; I've been to a few where chamber flags are required to be in place, especially on semiautomatic's or to have the bolt removed on bolt guns or you're not allowed to enter. There are some guns like the Barret and HK SP5 platforms that have no locks on the action so the flag is required.

I just spent my first day at the Range yesterday, breaking in and sighting in my first rifle. I was an experience. Only 4 people besides myself, my friend and one other group, and I'm getting used to my little mule of a 7lb. .308 with a 18 inch barrel and the first scope I've ever used, while people are shooting on either side with .30-06, an IWI Tavor, and some other rifles. Besides the fact that my rifle likes to kick and throw the muzzle every shot, I actually found the process was more about getting used to not flinching when a loud boom went off on one side or the other.
I put 40 rounds of 180 grain Federal through it, cleaned it a lot at first, had to tighten the screws on the scope mounts, and didn't get a single grouping because of a combination of inexperience, an increasingly tender shoulder thanks to a hard, narrow pad on the stock, a too short stock, my ear protection bouncing off the stock when I was trying to get behind the scope I mounted on a 20 MOA rail with medium height rings, no cheek rest, and going through this whole process while trying to zero my scope at first 50 yards then 100 yards, and the only thing I felt like I accomplished at the end of the day was not flinching every time someone fired a .30-06.
That being said, I chose that rifle, and even the 180 grain ammunition for the first day of shooting, to make it as hard as possible for me. It was disappointing not to have at least got a single group at the end of the day with my Rifle, but having gone out shooting only once in the past 35 years, I still sort of feel like I accomplished something. The irony is my friend let me shoot his M&P 2.0 and I only missed the steel maybe 3 times out of two mags, and when the guy who was acting as range master in the other group asked me if I wanted to try his Benelli M4 with an AR Scope, I missed the first two shots standing, and after bracing into a post, put the next two in a 1 inch spread near the center of the target at 25 yards.
So I came away thinking, "F, I can't shoot my own rifle for shit, but at least I managed to do well with someone elses"
I might have gone a little hard on amping up the difficulty level on my first rifle. It actually seems to be very accurate given it dropped the shots perfectly on the vertical even with me floating around behind it, but it kicks hard and high and I need to do something about the stock and get some proper shooting bags and/or a bipod before I go out again. The Benneli M4 literally felt like shooting a .22 compared to it.
Also, top-loading a floorplate magazine under a scope sucks, even when the action and scope base are designed to accommodate it. The rifle is a Bergara B-14 Wilderness Ridge SP. It's a nice rifle, but the stock is pretty short. The whole rifle is only 37.5 inches long without the Omni compensator on it. I took that off before I even finished paying for it.

I've been annoyed by a guy that was being overly friendly with his single shot 50 BMG. While he could very well had been genuinely that friendly, it was getting annoying that he was offering to everyone at the range to come shoot his rifle. I honestly can't remember if I ever saw him shoot it himself, he must have had at least 12-15 people shoot it, and then the range was closing for the day. It was the weirdest thing to me, almost as if he was testing it on other people.
Also people at the pistol line sweeping everyone is really scary as well, I'm always fearful that someone is going to pull the trigger because they think there is something wrong with the gun. I've even helped an older gentleman doing this because he thought the trigger was stuck, and it turned out the trigger was just much heavier than what he was use too, he even wanted me to fire the whole box of ammo to help break in the new gun, It was some type of micro .380, I fired about 20 rounds and told him he should really be doing it himself to get a feel for the trigger.
Hell, I've even caught my brother sweeping the line with a rifle while he was getting his stuff out of his bags. People don't know if your gun is loaded, and just like my self I'm sure they don't wan't to find out the hard way, It's my #1 pet peeve.

The most annoying person I met was the "Equipment Snob". Yeppers, that person that acts like they're better than you just because they spent more on their firearms. Ol' boy was looking down at me because I was using an entry level AR15. He had his high dollar Savage Model 10 chassis rifle and couldn't print a group on a 24 square inch target. His "friends" pointed out that I was using an 8.5"X 11" piece if paper with 5 targets on it and was obviously making 2" groups on each target. The dawning of understanding he suffered was blinding, I was seeing spots from it.
I don't shoot competition, I just like to see how small of a group I can keep at range. I'm working on getting to 1K yards.

I guy came up to my buddy on the firing range complementing him on the red dot and how it removes the parallax. Then draws down on the 200 yard target with his .45 dumping 2 mags; because "I just want to see if I can hit it."

Agreed for all of it except for the bolt being locked back. When handling a weapon, user should check if there’s a bullet in regardless of its condition.

Still should leave bolt open or slide locked back and magazine out. It adds one more layer of protection from idiots.

I always take a target with a bullseye hole. Tape it up and then use blanks. You'd be amazed how many people will believe the hole was created by the string of shots.

Also unironically getting major ASMR vibes from this, personally a 30 min video of just soft conversing would put me out like a tranquilized elephant.
    Gun cleaning ASMR when? :p

I’m 26, I grew up in a Military family(Marines, Navy, smidge of Army Airborne) been shooting since I was 4 years old, I fired my first AR15 and an AK47 when I was 8… I still learn something new about shooting everyday. Unless it’s a safety issue I try not to give advice to people cause I learn something new everyday. Worst habit I’ve had is setting my guns down with the bolt closed. I hate cleaning my guns constantly so I usually leave em closed, I try to keep rifles slung, muzzle pointed in a safe direction while slung, and handguns holstered anyhow but after a while I do like to set em down for a few minutes. I’ll never set one down without OTHER folks around verifying it is unloaded. Don’t really do public ranges though. Mostly the farm with close friends and family.

I would say the most annoying thing anyone has done to me on the range is getting brass ejected in my face. I don't know if it was the way this person was holding this firearm or not but geez I don't need 9 ejected cases in my face while you're firing and I'm trying to shoot.

This right here. Happens at my indoor range frequently when people hang past their range wall when shooting. Starts raining brass. Then I look to see their target is 5 yards out at that smh. Step back and focus up.

!00% on point. It's why I didn't renew I haven't renewed my gun club membership in a couple of years. The under 25 crowd and the "tactilols" drive me up the wall. They're rude and dangerous. I'm on good terms with a couple of local land owners that let me shoot pistols at the caliche pits on their property and use the indoor range to sight my deer rifles in at 100 yards. It's a .270 so I figure 130 gr. Printing a 1 inch group at an inch and a half to two inches high ought to be dead on out to 250. Or close enough to make an ethical kill. I simply can't do it at the range anymore. Too many morons.

Proud to say I've adhered to the rules since my first class in 1992. The range I belong to has at least one, and usually two range officers on duty who would never let any of this dangerous nonsense take place. Great channel; you're a 2A enthusiast and I'm glad I found your channel.

**You missed one, people firing those short-barreled rifles, firing ultra high velocity ammo next to you or someone else.
**It is slightly similar to the 300 win mag dump you talked about.
