One good turn truly deserves another. In the 1960s, at one time, Charlie Watts, who had so much respect for Ginger, had two drumming gigs and, when he heard that Ginger was struggling at one point and needed a gig, offered one of his own gigs to him. Ginger would later return the favour by recommending Charlie to one Brian Jones, and the rest in history.
ïncrëdible,, Charlie gives Ginger a DRUMMER S gig, Ginger tōòk Charlie Watts place in Alexsus Blue s band, and it's a Classic Question, gõ listen to Moby Dick LIVE, ït is Phenomenal, bbut, no matter what the hell is going on, I have got Charlie to Fall back, ït is Some kind of Rock and Jazz tà Mê, he can take you to the Heights of a Song, but be draggin down to bowel s of Hëll the next minute, holy shit, Rämblïn, sorry, Stòned, jùs såyîn ¡😎🥚😎¡
Ginger Baker & TONY ALLEN on drums: The Afro-Jazz Connection. An old collaborator. Ginger also famously played and recorded with the great Guy Warren. Great video. Many thanks.
Their relationship was complex like brothers, I think they loved each other like brothers and got on each others nerves like family. I personally would not describe it as hate.
As Jack himself summed it up in an interview conducted near the time of his stint with Tony Williams , 'Ginger is a Leo , and i am a Taurus, His attitude toward life, generally ,is black. And mine is white. So , I think that makes for good rhythm sections...". Okay now ,everybody ?
Get Ginger's book (at the library), YOU WILL LOVE IT. I learned so much. He loves polo. Who knew ? He's had his demons in life (women, drugs) but he's lived thru it all and he's still with us. AMAZING. He's one of the all-time GREATS. Still has all his Zildjian's from DAY ONE. The guy has his priorities in order, I guess. 9.24.16
people love believing all the bad things they hear about Mr. Baker. I personally have nothing but the highest respect for the man. my greatest influence for 49 years. the greatest compliment I ever had was when I auditioned for a band and after the first song the bass player turned to me and said, you sound like Ginger Baker.
kenneth kunie it's all those Bonham freaks with "Bonzo" as their alias. They always say the same, Baker was a hateful angry man when they haven't met the man they use that as way to judge his drumming when it is beyond comprehension to do so. That's the equivalent to saying Bonham was a fat drunk and that's why he is overrated. Baker was the best and first to contribute jazz drumming to rock n' roll. He is the best.
I just ripped someones ass over that too. A Bonham/Moon freak. Hey, arent they great!? Sure. But Ginger is in his own class. I always chide those flocks of drummers who say their big favs are so and so, AND Bonham, or start with Bonham. I say, ever heard early Phil Collins? Richie Hayward? Ginger Baker? Roger Taylor? Sly Dunbar? ....Nope. They havent. Hahaha!!!!
i think i see ginger as he is. he's ONE of the world's greatest drummers. he's more versatile than bonham or moon, who are also great (which people will know if they listen to enough of ginger's work). he's a bad man, but has also had bad things done to him. he's a liar, but more trust worthy than certain others. he's not as crazy or antagonistic as jack bruce, who gets by pretending to be nice, but has admitted that he got a kick out of provoking ginger. it's more rewarding to take someone as they are, as opposed to lionizing or demonizing them.
jesus ocando Well that’s what started this whole mess. Ginger’s actual comment from the documentary film of his life started with “The general public..”. You can go on forums on the internet dating back before 2008 of just Bonham fanboys and otherwise just disrespecting Ginger Baker. The Bonham fanboys started this mess as there will always be those whom not don’t know, but don’t care to know.
I was at this gig, a 14 year old back in 2008 at Shepherd's Bush Empire. Mitch Mitchell was going to be a surprise appearance but died a few weeks prior, if I recall correctly. Absolute fucking class night.
When I hear so many of my rock god dummers from the 80s and on.. most point to either Ginger Baker, John Bonham, Ringo Starr or Keith Moon as major influences if they know anything about early rock music. Just to name a few. RIP Ginger.
GINGER BAKER Unique... A Composer on Skins ... Drummed with Max Roach ect. Complex . Dynamics in CREAM. Incredable. Listen to TOAD . Influence so many. Without Baker there would be no Peart . Poly Rythmatic Monster. African Influences. Baker Airforce , Baker Gurtviz Army Elysian Encounter great record. R.I.P. Ginger . Your Mate is with U. JACK BRUCE .R.I.P. SLOWHAND is on HOLD for now.
Sadly the problem with aging rock stars passing away little by little is that there's nobody taking their place. Who are the great and upcoming drummers of today? Who are the great and upcoming songwriters of today? There's nobody to pass the baton to.
Thank you kindly, for this presentation - very informative and interesting. I have always loved the creativity, of Cream! Brad Holmes Tai Chi Gold Coast and B Rad Designs.
+Xiao Tan 你十分幸运,Jack Bruce己成古人,亦是一个legend .可惜!Clapton 亦闻說健康有小问题!check out Marianne Faithful 的Broken English , Dangerous Acquaintance 和 A Child's Advanture. Grace Jones 當时的鼓手是牙買加的Dunbar.
Open heart surgery. Don't forget the open heart surgery. If he doesn't die, though, I bet he'll get behind the kit again... If fact he did play a little (just a couple of minutes) at Jack Bruce's memorial concert last November 2016 or whenever it was...

RIP Jack Bruce, i wish you would have lived many more years to enjoy hearing so much talent in one person.
So unique and inspiring thank Mr. Baker and RIP to both Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker.
Greatest musicians to ever grace the earth! God Bless them and RIP Ginger and Jack! 😎✝️🙏🏴🇬🇧
Ginger Baker & TONY ALLEN on drums: The Afro-Jazz Connection. An old collaborator. Ginger also famously played and recorded with the great Guy Warren. Great video. Many thanks.
For two guys who hated each other, they sure did a lot of stuff. Ginger and Jack.
ginger envied the songwriting revenue that made jack and pete brown rich...
Baker & Bruce: simply the greatest rhythm section of all time.
I think it's more accurate to say they had a love/hate relationship.
R.I.P Ginger Baker...Just knew of you as being a great drummer.
...and a great JAZZ drummer at that...😌

I got that compliment a couple times. Always great to hear.

That's the equivalent to saying Bonham was a fat drunk and that's why he is overrated. Baker was the best and first to contribute jazz drumming to rock n' roll. He is the best.
And the bass player was zonked on acid, right? But damn....YOU of all people, HAD that fucking talent!!! N-O-T
I just ripped someones ass over that too. A Bonham/Moon freak. Hey, arent they great!? Sure. But Ginger is in his own class. There are still countless great musicians in the world, but all the legends are going away.
This guy, in his prime, was nothing, nothing, short of absolutely super human, in rhythmic
composition, and never to be seen again.
jesus ocando Well that’s what started this whole mess. Ginger’s actual comment from the documentary film of his life started with “The general public..”. ........simmer down,...now...!
Absolutely brilliant jack Bruce and ginger baker what legends
Wow! Ginger Baker receiving an Award from Charlie Watts! Fabulous! That would be like John Lennon getting an Award from Brian Wilson;😢
I was at this gig, a 14 year old back in 2008 at Shepherd's Bush Empire. Mitch Mitchell was going to be a surprise appearance but died a few weeks prior, if I recall correctly. Absolute fucking class night.

Three drum legends Ginger Baker, Tony Allen, Charlie Watts...
Rip..So dearly missed..
There will never again be the like of Ginger Baker. RIP. I miss him lots.
Listen to his work with Masters Of Reality, specifically Sunrise on the Sufferbus. Mindblowing drumming...And his DW drums sound huge and explosive...
Ginger Bakers Air Force too. Pow. He's phenomenal.
His fills on she got me are amazing, also i really dig jb witch dance, super cool groove
His was still playing Ludwig with Masters of Reality. I agree his playing on that album is out of this world though!
Alan Partridge Yes, you are right on that...thanks for the correction.
Old quote by Ginger from Melody Maker (70's). " I don't play the drums, I bash them". The original founder member of Cream.
absolute economy of movement no flailing or theatrics the best I have ever personally seen strange fellow
Ginger always blew me away with the double base and his drum patterns.
Cool clip Ginger. I enjoy your Pro performance and Pro drum playing. Get well soon. I pray for You. Best regards
Robert from Sweden.
That aged badly :(... May he Play loud where ever he is..

Old age does stuff to people
But he was always an asshole to people even in his later years
Sadly the problem with aging rock stars passing away little by little is that there's nobody taking their place. Who are the great and upcoming drummers of today? Who are the great and upcoming songwriters of today? There's nobody to pass the baton to.
@Douglas Fisher You really have to search the internet to find great music of today. Radio and television is all corporate BS.
Great mugiciand
The only time he was happy.... when he was sitting behind his drums.... rip ginger
Great job guys, awesome.
jack & ginger ❤️
Thank you kindly, for this presentation - very informative and interesting. I have always loved the creativity, of Cream! Brad Holmes Tai Chi Gold Coast and B Rad Designs.
Tony Allen and Ginger together! Wow

He was a BEAST!!!

“Thank you very much, everybody. It’s a great pleasure for Charlie”.😅😅😅
You really have to search the internet to find great music of today. Radio and television is all corporate BS.

Ryan Arenson Traintime, also featured on Wheels of Fire and many of their live bootlegs.
可惜!Clapton 亦闻說健康有小问题!check out Marianne Faithful 的Broken English , Dangerous Acquaintance 和 A Child's Advanture. Grace Jones 當时的鼓手是牙買加的Dunbar.
Grace Jones 的Compass Point Session 也不俗
He came he saw he offended everyone
wanted to become a professional cyclist ... no wonder he died laughing when one of the crew said Disraeli Gears instead of derailer gears
Poor jack looks like he's about to drop dead
Osibisa
Why do drummers have odd teeth?
😿😹
Overrated...RIP Mr. Baker.
Buddy Rich has a better solo. Toad in studio had its moments but for the most part GB is lackluster.
how long did it take to figure that out doctor
@@arfshesaid4325 don't be a bitch
he had degenerative arthritis you dumb twits, his best love caused him the greatest pain you dimwitted buffoons
@@johnplaid648 are u really that fuckin stupid that you would put the two even in the same sentence, moron
Lacklustre
That drum solo bit sounded terrible, he was not in time with the others. Ginger Baker was vastly overrated, nothing special at all.
He is quite old at that time
Come on, Cream... do a few more concerts and some new records...
ginger cant play anymore, arthritits
Open heart surgery. Don't forget the open heart surgery. If he doesn't die, though, I bet he'll get behind the kit again... If fact he did play a little (just a couple of minutes) at Jack Bruce's memorial concert last November 2016 or whenever it was...
ESTO say's who you? he can still play. JAZZ where it's about feel not volume.get it!
