That Spaceworld restoration still blows my mind. I remember seeing screenshots of it when I was in 3rd grade, but because the internet was new, my friends didn't believe me.
Hahaha, when you mentioned that Trax was made by Hal, I was surprised until I saw the Kirby-esque tank explosion animation. That's a dead giveaway if I've ever seen one!
Spanky's Quest looks super cool in full color like a NES game on GB! I'm going to have to let my son in law know about Pokemon Super Gold 97 he is going to flip when he hears about that! Thanks for the Retro Break!
Fantastic video, as always! Where do you go to find the latest or catch up with romhacks and homebrews? I love the Gameboy so much but if the scene is too busy/complicated I just know I wouldn't have time to be part of it. Keep up the amazing work!
Highly recommend looking into Pokemon Gold and Silver 97: Reforged. It's a Crystal hack but based on the Spaceworld demo. Game looks great with the enhanced colors and sprites that the GBC exclusive nature of the game affords.
Donkey Kong Land looks impressive at the beginning, with the jungle levels especially resembling the GBC DKC port, but the colors get super dull really fast. it almost feels like a brown Kong in a black and white city for the city levels. even the later overworlds are colorless. any bit of color helps, but it feels like this one is only 1/3 complete to me... ---edit--- the quality of life changes alone are worth using the hack though so still a definite recommend
Another hack like Super Gold 97 is Gold/Silver 97 Reforged. It's not quite as authentic, but instead takes the route of "What if the beta stuff ended up being in the final game?" rather than simply expanding on the original demo. Same beta region and all that stuff, just a different take on it. Honestly, both projects look cool to me (I have the ROMs for the latter and plan to play it some day). :)
Now I wish someone would do some Rumble Pack hacks. Revenge of the Gators would really appreciate that. Some of these are game breaking, but it’s fun. The Trax hack is dope!
That would be cool! And to hack back in the rumble feature for the Legend of the River King games which had rumble carts in Japan, but didn’t elsewhere!
4:06 my "hack of a hack" is in the video!!!!!!! i also made a DX hack of the orignal gameboy game (i made that one first actually, and then i hacked Rosy Retrospection XD)
Thanks for all the awesome recommendations! One question regarding color mods, or Rosy Retrospective in particular: how can I use the colorization? The ROM always plays with regular GBC colors, so in the way the GBC originally colored GB games. What settings do I have to use for palette and colorization in the emulator?
@@RetroBreak Thanks a lot for your quick response! I got it running now, I was missing the part where I had to patch to the original hacked version first. It works now and I love it 😃
You should do your mod! I commented on another video about how I wished Super Mario Land would be remade but it's beyond me. You should do yours! If anyone knows if there's a mod that makes all 151 Pokemon available for Red/Blue or FireRed/LeafGreen let me know. I'm not interested in anything past Gen 1.
There's quite a few "151" hacks available. You'll have to dig around to find the one you want. Some just make all 151 Pokemon available in-game and some feature additional changes as well. A Google search for "Pokemon(insert version here) 151 rom-hack" is a good starting point.
I tried picross X but it has some puzzles with multiple solutions and that’s just not fun for me. Also, Mario Land 2 DX is a great hack! In addition to adding colors it uses the faster GBC clock speed to eliminate lag!
I spotted a mistake. You said Mega Man V was the best Mega Man game on the GameBoy when it is in fact Mega Man IV that is the best Mega Man game on the GameBoy.

of course it’s made by Hal, all good things are!
Thanks for that rosy mod. I'm now hooked on Tetris.
Shout out to Toruzz, Marc Max and everyone in the romhacking community.
You're awesome!
Thanks for your efforts ❤
Ya me parecía que te habia visto antes xd
Vi uno de tus videos de Tetris xd
I wish someday someone would make a DX Romhack of DK'94
The game's truly a hidden gem
It's been done by Marc Robledo, the creator of the Mega Man World 5 DX romhack. Will be released for the 30th anniversary (summer 2024)
Yeah! I can’t believe no one has done that yet
I was watching Retrobirds recent video thinking the same thing.
DK'94 is not a hidden gem since it keeps showing up in everyone's top 10 Gameboy games of all time.
I guess but it's still underrated @@The5hark
I’m surprised no one has done a DX version of DK 94 yet. There’s even the Super Gameboy colors to use as a guide
Loved this vid! One I loved that wasn't mentioned was Warioland DX!
Spanky's Quest looks super cool in full color like a NES game on GB! I'm going to have to let my son in law know about Pokemon Super Gold 97 he is going to flip when he hears about that!
Thanks for the Retro Break!
Dr. Mario DX is the best DX ROM Hack I've played on real hardware so far. Absolutely recommend it to anyone with a flashcart.
I am looking for the Best DX hacks and Dr. Mario and the Mario Land seem like the best ones yet. Hope to find many more.
Fantastic video, as always!

Pokémon Super Gold 97 is like an official “Gen 1.5”. And is even available in Spanish as Super Oro 97.
Great video. Awesome shirt! I like the videos you do of new game boy games that get released.
That Tetris improvement just became absolutely essential for me, thank you
This is the video that finally made me say, "I gotta learn how to play Picross."
It's simple, satisfying, and really addictive. All the picross games I've played feature tutorials that will get you up to speed in no time.
Highly recommend looking into Pokemon Gold and Silver 97: Reforged. It's a Crystal hack but based on the Spaceworld demo. Game looks great with the enhanced colors and sprites that the GBC exclusive nature of the game affords.
There's so much love in these Hacks :) I'm really looking forward to your video about Pokémon Hacks!
Great stuff! Just when I was going to ask you to do a Pokemon video on the wealth of hacks, you’ve actually got one planned. Fantastic.
Another great video now I'm looking forward to some of the future gba and pokemon hack/improvement videos
Perfect timing, I just ordered a GBA Everdrive to play Pokemon ROM hacks and other stuff.

Niiiiice, Nick! Love me a ROM hack. Hope you're keeping well!
Great video! can't wait to find some new pokemon romhack
These are some pretty amazing finds, thanks!!

Oh dang, I didn't know they finished the Spaceworld hack! I'll have to check that out.
Very cool video! Would love more of these

I use the jump control hacks on all of Castlevania games. On the NES and Gameboy. I highly recommend it.
4:06 my "hack of a hack" is in the video!!!!!!!

Ay Creeper, GG! Just saw the video and thought... wait a minute, I know this one! Well deserved!
OMG @@tolstoj_ What are you doing here!!?? 😂
Was this video posted on the GBTetris server too?, or you just found it?
Nah, been following them since they made a video on the GB interceptor.
There's a new version!!!!, you should check it out!
Hello Retro Break. Do you own a Spongebob Squarepants GBA SP system? I find it cool. Thanks for the great video!!
Thanks for all the awesome recommendations! One question regarding color mods, or Rosy Retrospective in particular: how can I use the colorization? To get it to work in colour, apply this patch to your rosy retrospection rom, and change the file from .gb to .gbc www.romhacking.net/hacks/8259/
@@RetroBreak Thanks a lot for your quick response! I got it running now, I was missing the part where I had to patch to the original hacked version first. It works now and I love it 😃
@@RetroBreak it's only file IPS, how to make file .gb ?
I love Castlevania too but I wish that they colorized it
Do hacks to me are the coolest, I really hope to see more come for more game boy games
Merci pour cette romhack de Tetris, cette version est encore mieux que l'opus NES.
11:25 The patch for the New Awakening hack won't work on my EverDrive. I get an I/O error. I can't find a rom with the right hash for the patch.

There are great tools for hacking a lot of these games. I'm fiddling around with a Final Fantasy Romhack myself.
Well that's an easy one my favorite is Pokemon super gold 97 space world reforged GBC rom hack i give it 2 thumbs up 👍👍😎😁🎮🇺🇸🇯🇵👏👏👏👏👏✨🏆✨🌟
Wicked 🤘
Okay, where do I get that shirt, sir?
Can the tetris game save high scores?
yes
i did 810 000 today! this is the best tetris ever for game boy classic
🤘
i’ve been getting baked all day so far…
U say NES like "ness", I say NES like "nez".
I say us as uzzzz, and my wife keeps telling me, "No, it's "ussss".
I spotted a mistake. You said Mega Man V was the best Mega Man game on the GameBoy when it is in fact Mega Man IV that is the best Mega Man game on the GameBoy.
we dont need to see your face all throughout the video my dude
Please, how to read IPS rom ? i would like this on .gb for my flash game boy game!
