Honestly? On the V2, I see 100% the same rendering as the Zeiss Classic 21mm f2.8...The V1 looks more unique, imho. Great video as always Kevin, thanks for sharing it!
Man nice and surprising test! I prefer v1 in every shot. Contrast and tones are better imo and that red flare on v2 is weird, not a fan. Only issue with v1 is CA, but once you step down to f3 the problem is solved. What a lens! Also, maybe it’s just me, but I prefer the look of the 19mm on a s35 sensor! Great test!
Such an incredible comparison 🙌 how did you match shot movement up so well? I know a lot of people including myself would love to see reviews/comparisons like this to other vintage lenses like Contax Zeiss, Nikon ais, Minolta etc!! 🙏🙏🙏
Ive been waiting for this video to drop! You were a source of my decision making when building out my Leica R Kit, but I went with the Duclos servicing. Also was interested in how they would perform on the V Raptor. Great work brotha! Loving all these videos lately.
Wow that is one quality review! Though the V2 is the all-around safer choice, I must say that I don't mind the CA so much at night on the V1 if not actually appreciate the effect that it gives, especially on car lights! It gives that messy purply blooming effect that I'm quite keen on for some reason. It makes for some interesting vintage looks at night in my opinion! However, I would gladly get rid of the CA wide open in broad day light if possible. Anyway, thanks a lot for that inspiring in depth review! They're rare to come by!
Cool video. just to add that I own a V1 and CA goes as u stop down by one stop. useful to know if u like the character of the V1, which I do.... The difference in rendering colour very probably comes from the years of manufacture of the lenses , so coatings and all.... great work btw;
A small detail that made me trade my v1 for v2 was that the 80mm fronts block the image on full frame. I prefer the v1 in many ways, but the CA and distortion on it ultimately made me switch
I've owned both but kept the V2 because considering they are not fast (only 2.8) & there will certainly be situations where you will need to use them wide open, the CA on the V1 was not usable at all. Cool idea for a review though.
I have V2. At 15:30 you commented about the rotating blooming--haloing effect that almost looks like a starburst. I suspect there is something on a lens element creating the effect. I.e., haze (common in vintage lenses) might be the culprit as that is not a normal artifact. Starbursts are caused by aperture blades, and I'm assuming those night shots are taken wide-open. Both lenses seem to have haloing that might point to haze (or possibly a dirty element).
Love the comparison that you've done! I've never really noticed the CA at night on my V1 because I hardly shoot at night. *looking on eBay for exorbitantly priced V2s now*😅
Loved the video, you really did a great job showing the lenses in real world situations and highlighting the differences. My question is...did you rent or buy both of these lenses, and if you bought, where did you find them? It has gotten out of control the prices on eBay currently, and I'd love to support a local business to buy the lens instead. Also, ballpark how much did you pay, or would you expect to pay, for the V2? Thanks for the hard work!
Love them both, but if I had to choose I would go with V2 just for the chromatic aberration in V1 is kinda strong, but if I only had V1 I would be very happy with it despite the CA
Hey Kevin. I just shot with a Leica R set on my raptor and I was getting really bad vignetting with the 19mm (like fisheye vignetting). I'm using the kippertie RF/EF adapter. Any idea why I was getting vignetting when both V1 and V2 doesn't vignette for you here?
Nice video and comparisons. Both are great but v2 seems to have the edge. Does the lens require Leica R-Adapter connected to an M Mount attached to your V-Raptor?
Great video. These are so expensive, but it looks terrific... and quite close, i suppose from a old angenieux 25-250mm i have... (but with less aberrations). Thanks !
V2 is much better. I personally can’t stand purple CA on any lens as with V1. Having a filter turret on V2 and access to coloured filters is such a great overlooked feature. The question on most people’s minds would be, when would you ever use coloured filters? And the answer simply put is b&w if you know what I mean.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed. Each lens have been converted to EF mount and I used the Kippertie Revolva to adapt the lenses to the RF mounts on each camera.
Whats the difference between your 19mm Leica lenses and mine? Mine looks nothing like yours. I have the… - ELMARIT-R, 1:2.8/19mm, with the removable lens-hood, Leitz Canada. - SUMICRON-R, 1:2/90mm, attached telescopic lens-hood, Leitz Canada. - VARIO-ELMAR-R, 1:4.5/75-200MM Zoom, attached telescopic lens-hood, Leitz WESTLAR. - Leica R4, 35mm, Leitz Camera. I purchased my Leica system new in the early 1980’s from a good friend that received it as a personal wedding present. Then he got a divorce (annulment) a couple months later. He was not a photographer so he sold it to me for about the wholesale price of a regular camera. Yes, we remained friends :-) I ran a half-dozen rolls of 35mm, Fuji slide -film and 64asa Kodachrome slide-film through it and it’s been in my closet for the last 40 years. I have been tempted to try film again, but my iPhone is suffice. Jim.
Man these are both really cool lenses, comment below what you thought about each of them!

Thanks so much Matteo! Love the look of v1 for sure.
Indeed that the red flare is very eye-catching and becomes somewhat distracting.
best line: "This guy just sat there and shred for an hour non stop" HAHA loved it
Thanks for this. Its great! I'd love to see more tests like these! Mamiya, Helios, FD, DZO, and Atlas
I'm a simple man -- I see Raptor footage, I click.

Excellent review, you did a really good test. THANK YOU !
Super helpful video! Would you consider to do similar videos comparing versions with other lens of the set? Like summicrón 50mm or Elmarit 35,

Logan! Congrats on your Leicas! Im sure you're loving them :) Appreciate you bro!
Great video!
Each lens has own benefits and negative things.
I'm testing both on BM 6K Pro.
Wonderful both 👍😊
Thanks for watching!

Exactly my thoughts! :)
You should upload it in 4K! It would look even more gorgeous.
I’ll remember that for the next lens comparison! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@KevinReyesDP Hi please please reupload this test in 4k, FHD actually removes a lot of details :c

Yeah man that CA is no joke
Tough decision between the two. One thing we can all agree on though; that dude SHREDS on the guitar.
That’s 100% confirmed

Love my v1
Although I rarely get to use it. I don't often opt for that wide of a lens

Hey Kévin, thanks for the test, how do you filter / ND your raptor outside ? I heard that there is some problem with kippertie NDs coverage on VV
Love them both, but if I had to choose I would go with V2 just for the chromatic aberration in V1 is kinda strong, but if I only had V1 I would be very happy with it despite the CA
I agree. I might choose V1 if I wasn't shooting a high contrast scenes and wanted a little more softness. Thanks for watching!

Yah me too. The Raptor here didn’t show it. A bit puzzling

THanks for watching David! Glad you enjoyed :)
Love my v1, love the blue chromatic aberration, not a flaw at all.
That's a grrreeeat test! Thanks!!!
@kevin - is it just me or does Monstro image look significantly better than Raptor?
The lack of harsh CA in V2 is worth the price imo. Sharper too.
Hi,nice video! BTW I bought V2, and I'm looking for cinering. What brand do you use?
Great Video man 🔥 I have the V2 and never regret.
Thanks so much! Yeah that V2 is a hard hitter!
Do you know if there are similar differences too Elmarit-R 28mm 2.8 V1 vs V2?
Kevin, which adapter are you using to mount the Leica R lenses to the Komodo?
Hmm, so my 19v1 isn't hot garbage after all! Thanks Kevin!
Haha no way that thing is so dope!
So im guessing the Leicas cover vista vision senor yes?
Wonderful video. Thank you!!!
Selling my Mint Leica 19MM on Ebay now.

if it wasn't for the CA i think i would prefer V1 but the CA is a deal breaker for me.
perfect comparision
Sorry if I missed it, but which of the two matches the rest of the set better?
@@dajikeyboards for the set that I have, I’d say v1 fits better. If my set were from late 80s or 90s I’d say v2 would be closer.
@@KevinReyesDP awesome! Thanks for the info and awesome vid. Hope there’s a YT comeback some day
V1 looked better in all the day shots but v2 dominiated the night shots.
Love it! What adapter do you use on these lenses?

Oh no! I’m so sorry man that’s a bummer. Hit up SIMMOD lens or Duclos in la!
