At least 20% of the things I've said are accurate. Thanks for having me instead of the bear for this episode!
"Sunglasses: they are like ND filters but for your eyes" had me absolutely rolling. Subscribed.
You mean instead of Bearald
The little flex with the Palm Angels sunglasses tho 🔥
@@peter5477-kz4vj am I missing something? What’s wrong with the parrot pro?
“They are like ND Filters but for your eyes” when talking about sunglasses is probably one of my favourite things I’ve heard this year and that is now 100% how I will describe sunglasses to anyone who asks👌
Such a safe space for nerds. I'm a camera nerd from Argentina and just enjoyed whatever this was. keep them coming
4:50 - That's the maximum flash sync speed. If the shutter is any faster than that, there is a chance that the flash will only illuminate part of the film.
Thank you, sir, I was looking for this exact comment.
“They’re like ND Filters, but for your eyes” 😂💀
I’ve been waiting for someone to say it! Finally!
Amazing 😂😂😂🤘🏻
That's a great camera / lens - 4:50 YES I"M yelling at the screen, shutter synch for flash.
Kids today...
Wonder if it supports the Godox V1
What's a flash? Like a COB LED that blinks? 😜
@@geraldundone I think it’s what’s on the tv
@@geraldundone blinks so fast some would say it even strobes.
That person yelling at the screen right now is me, Taylor.
Got you good!
Same lmao
you should have your previous interview playing on the TV in a loop for your next interview
Gerald PLEASE do a podcast. I could listen / watch you and a guest talk about anything and everything for hours!
I know Gerald is being facetious when talking about the M4-2 haha. But I love the M4-2! It's definitely a piece of Canadian history. Fun fact: Midland was chosen because it had the same number of letters as Wetzlar, the German manufacturing city. 1/50th was the sync speed because of the design of the cloth focal plane shutter. In my view, I think it's the best bang for buck Leica M camera.
True, this was my first M camera because it was somewhat affordable. Then I read in several places that the mechanisms were simplified and that this camera is less serviceable/adjustable than previous models, so after using it for a while, I ended up selling it and replacing it with an original M4 instead.... which came from a dealer in Canada.
The original M4 is a thing of beauty as well. A few thousand were made in Canada and will say Midland/Canada on their top plate. @@heiner71
Love this fire site conversation! "They are like ND filters but for the eyes!" (sunglasses) 😂
4:02 "Leaf Shutter"... removes lens to show a cloth focal plane shutter.
Yup
I was looking for this comment. All good though- Taylor is a good guy.
I laughed way too hard when Taylor said, "They're like ND filters, but for your eyes."
Loved the old set with the tool bench in the background, but I gotta say, the minimalist set vibe shows off your table much more, which I really like. I know it was there before, but I didn’t notice it as much.
Just under ten minutes of geeking out and goofing around with a Canadian photographer buddy. This is the best stuff you've done on this channel since 'Not a Podcast.' Please keep it up!
This is my new favorite late night variety show, hands down!
I really enjoy the new talkshow format. Love how you reinvent to keep it interesting.
I really appreciate the outtakes, they always make me laugh! Keep up the great work!
"Apologies to Patrick Tomasso we ran out of time"
“What’s up with that?”
Folks, we truly are seeing Gerald becoming Undone.
Duh guys that isn't an arrow, it is the lightning bolt symbol for flash sync speed of 1/50 sec. Everyone knows that but you guys, LOL. Cheers
The lightning bolt arrow is the highest shutter speed the camera can do without rolling shutter. Usually 1/60 for horizontal-travel focal plane shutters, and around 1/200 or 1/250 for most vertical-travel shutters. It's known as the flash sync speed because flash can only expose your whole frame properly up to that shutter speed.
There are some modern workarounds like firing the flash multiple times as the shutter rolls: this is good if you hate capacitors and want them to die.
I don’t know what this is, but I like it. Keep ‘em coming in this format.
This is the cross-colab we need in our lives. Nice work guys!
I think we’re a little too early for the fire Gerald. Maybe by like a week or 2 😂❤
Great vid
This is like watching one of those videos where they give a rotary phone to a 15 year old kid and ask him to make a phone call.
HAHA This format IS GREAT! Shoutout to wedding shooters.
Nice to see the old Leica. Back in the 80s-90s I collected them; it brings back so many memories. I shot with them daily as well, mostly 'street' photography, also live performances, when I was living in NYC. I had working models going back to the early 1930s. Often they would work perfectly even after decades. The biggest issues would be 'delaminating' or deterioration of the mirrored surfaces in the rangefinders, and also the Canada Balsam glue that they used to bond together the lens elements just happened to be a perfect medium for fungus to grow in. Often the cameras and lenses would be stored in their beautiful leather cases for decades, and leather being hygroscopic, it would attract moisture and destroy the optics.
Anyway, Leicas - (made by Ernst Leitz, Wetzlar; but invented by employee Oskar Barnack in the 1920s originally just as a test camera to run clip-test batches of 35mm Cine film [around 3 feet long, or the width of your arms stretched; yielding approx 36 exposures!] in order to precisely determine the film's ISO [sensitivity/speed]. This was how the standard 35mm film still format was born!!!) - were the cameras which made a huge percentage (I don't remember the exact numbers, but IIRC it was said to be well over 50%) of all the historically important photos taken during the entire 20th century! Leica was the #1 choice for photojournalists, war photographers, etc. right up until 1959, when the first SLR pentaprism camera, the ubiquitous Nikon F, was introduced. Many photographers still preferred the smaller size and much more quiet operation of the rangefinder Leicas. (They sat in the hand like a nice P08 or PPK.) I collected Nikons too, even though they didn't have the ergonomic feel of the Leicas... Unfortunately, I ended up not keeping a single example of the 50+ Leicas or many Nikon Fs that I owned back then, and even though I know I wouldn't be bothered to shoot film anymore, I kind of regret not keeping a Leica IIIc or M3 just to fiddle with. They were really beautiful examples of design, copied by everyone, and now all pretty much obsolete. I think Leica makes digital cameras now, but I have no idea how well they are regarded by modern users...
I would watch the hell out of this! Gerald undone talk show??!!! Like what?!
The fireplace is, indeed, a lot
Mr. Undone, just to let you know - my wife things you monitor with the Fireplace is TOO distracting. I was watching this video and when she came up from our basement pantry with dinner supplies, she saw it an commented. I was listening to the interview and did not latch onto that. Something to consider.
I see Gerald with a Leica and got really really intrigued
And then... disappointed. 😂💜
@@geraldundone I would love to co-review a film camera/stock with you if I’m ever in the area ;)
this has some Erik André vibes i keep waiting for Gerald to drive a dune buggy out of his desk
I don’t understand what I watched but I’m here for it 😂
This studio setup is really cool
Love the series! Next episode, potato jet?
Cool! Thanks for sharing it. ✌️
Do more of this...short and relaxed with awesome guests; I loved it.
Very cool. BTW, cloth focal plane shutter.
Woah, that pre-role ad just played at 2x speed. I normally watch youtube videos at 2x. But the ads play at 1x speed. This time it played at 2x. Crazy.
Yeah, the fire is a bit much. What about: Toronto skyline? Lake Louise? Group of Seven painting?
Taylor should start a channel
I would watch it
Hi Gerald, love your reviews and all the information you provide. Could you do a review on the new Z cam E2 - F6 pro. It would be really nice to see if they fixed all the problems from the earlier model with the firmware updates. They came out with and how much better the new model is. Thank you and keep up the good work.
This taylor guy is so rich man. He owns so many cameras and goes on tours and everything
Not a LEAF shutter!
It was a CURTAIN or FOCAL PLAIN shutter…
(4:03)
Yeah... I thought it was strange that there were no leaves on it. 🍃🍂😜
@@geraldundone It must be Autumn already.
Nice! I think you’ve got the interview framing better now. If you’re still willing to experiment, maybe play with the height of you vs the interview subject (but it’s not bad rn), and I suppose you could move the tv to be at midpoint between the two of you. I like the relaxed vibe!
Great to see Taylor here - I mean - I love the bear, but he doesn’t talk as much as Taylor
I can’t believe you interviewed Taylor and no one mentioned Bear Weldings.
Love that you are trying new things in a new space! Not super loving the vibe but it seemed a bit more chaotic / unscripted than your usual stuff. Also could be that I am not use to seeing you do this kind of content. Will look forward to seeing what this new change brings.
It's very interresting the idea. It can work. That's something "fresh, interesting and fun" your new show project.
Hi Gerald, great new talk show style design! I do think your fireplace display can be more elegant, its a really aggressive fire in terms of room design in my opinion right now.
lets go someone else that rocks an M4-2
I need those ND filters for your eyes!
this could really work with a drummer and a bass player
That lightning arrow IS max flash sync - slow, but that's how they were!
"They are like ND filters for your eyes" amazing lol
Part of that shot is lit.
Every guest, even if they are boring, will be 🔥
next episode: Gerald interviews himself
Dude just sold me on a tamron lens for documentary film work... seems pretty run and gun all in one!
can't look at anything but the fire :)
Yeah... it's a bit intense. Got some new stuff for that screen coming in next month's videos.
@@geraldundone I appreciate you trying new things. Would have been easier to stick to the uber geek brand you've worked so hard to deservedly build. Anything new comes with "mistakes", but hey, sometimes you just got to change stuff :)
What did I just watch 😂😂😂😂
The lightning bolt/arrow is the flash sync.
The fire!!
PLEASE GET CASEY FROM CAMERA CONSPIRACIES ON - OMG
Is anyone else waiting for Gerald’s review of Atomos Ninja Ultra?
Hmm mildly interesting people talking , one behind a desk. What does this remind me of ? Oh yeah tv talk shows 😀
Haha, such a vibe
I like more laid back content, basically everything about new studio... but TV with video of fire playing back is a bit much for my taste.
It creates warmth in the highlights.
Great talk show set. This reminds me of the time David Letterman was interviewing Harrison Ford, and they talked about the microphones for the first 15 minutes. JK JK JK
I like your Undone tries something new
The red stripe cant be for flash sync. Its a Leah shutter. Flash is possible at pretty much any speed
Time to get the ATEM set up for the talk show.
I loved it.
Dear Mr. Undone, it is with a serious tone that I write to you as you are a man of great purple powers! Please look at the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Full Frame!! How well does it work with your Kondor Blue HDMI cables?!
Red Letter Media when?
Doe Leica Canada still make Leica products of any sort?
The fire is a lot.
Good lord I’m old. You guys didn’t recognize a flash synch mark….
Is it hot in here or is it me? (Anyone’s guess whether I’m referring to Taylor or that raging inferno)
The answer to this video is yes.
"They're like ND filters for your eyes"
jeepers
You gotta get Josh Yo on the show.
What did I just watch? 😂
Onabags are great. I bought the bowery on 2012/2013. In 2021 the inside padding excretes(?) black sticky wax stuffs when it's pushed too hard. So any 1kg camera will make my hand and my bag sticky. I torn up the separator padding and sent video to Ona just to ask about this.
Surprisingly, they sent me a new bag. To Asia. Free of charge.
I'll be their customer for life.
TEDDYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
"ND filters for your eyes"

I wanted more
Beautiful
Is it just me or was this the Terrance and Philip show?
He’s crazy!
Why are talk show "hosts" always seated screen right?
Not sure. I just copied what I saw on late night. Maybe everyone has just been copying the first to do it?
I feel like the thumbnail and the title of this video changed
The arrow is indeed for flash. To sync it.
This new set reminds me of when joe rogan made that red studio and everything went weird. Nd for your eyes cracked me up though 😄
"where do you tend to rub it?"
What did I just watch? 👀
Whenever someone busts out an Ona bag, I KNOW they rich rich 🤑
How much are they??? Asking as, his wife. Lol.
