  • Join me (a real life SR22 pilot) as I fly the TorqueSim SR22 on a more challenging flight, from Grand Junction to Aspen, CO. In this flight we’ll cover TKS anti-ice, oxygen, rich-of-peak climbs for terrain, and put the Cirrus through its paces in one of the more demanding flights you can do in a piston single.

    v1.1 adds animated ice accretion on the wings and windshield AND adds cannulae to the occupants, so I guess they heard you :)

    Tim, you are the gold standard as far as I'm concerned with respect to the TS SR22. I'm just glad I don't get charged per RUclips view! I would be a poor man by now! Thank you for these great videos!

    Tim, superb video. I just started flying the TorqueSim SR22T on X-Plane (I fly a DA40 IRL) and found your very thorough A-to-Z exercise of the TorqueSim SR22T implementation very helpful (I didn't know the O2 levels were set in the center armrest; I gotta read the manual). Thx! Wayne

    Thanks Tim. Really appreciate the real pilot insights to flying the SR22. I hope you are advising any issues to the developer, so we can all benefit from enhancements. Would welcome any additional flights to reinforce the process etc. Thanks again.

    I too enjoy your videos. I wish there was a way to get more practice in though by not having to deal with all the startup procedures. I tend to fly the Cirrus Jet more just because I can navigate, land and do all the basics before the time consuming task oriented issues. I do fly so do know why they do it but I think they should have an option for on the runway running for more practice. Maybe its there and I'm missing it. Thanks again!

    You can select to show icing data in the "data output" options in XP11. It won't show on the wings, instead it shows you numbers similar to the way it will display FPS info.

    Great video Tim! Superb knowledge of the Cirrus. A couple questions. Do you typically turn off pitot heat below 5 C if the air is clear? I leave it on full time below 5 C. In the real aircraft the CAS will hound you if you don't. Also, I noticed you turned on strobes after the engine start. Is there a reason you did that? Not to come off nitpicky, but the POH checklist calls for strobes on prior to engine start; presumably to warn anyone nearby that the plane is going active. Just curious if that was deliberate and if there was a good reason for it.

    • @riscfuture
      @riscfuture  4 года назад

      My aircraft hounds me whenever OAT is below freezing, regardless of whether the pitot heat is on or not (the avionics doesn't sense pitot heat switch position), so I just carried over habits from the 172. I think the checklist also calls for strobes on prior to engine start; I probably just neglected to do it.

      You need to install the AviTab plugin. There is a hidden click-spot in that area of the panel that will toggle the EFB.

    I noticed for both ROP and LOP climbs like your Tahoe video you pull power back to 2500/MAX MP. The POH says that climb is a full forward throttle? Is the POH just talking about initial climb when it says full forward throttle and the 2500/MAX MP is the cruise or endurance climb? Also, thanks for these very instructional videos.

    • @riscfuture
      @riscfuture  4 года назад +1

      You can climb at 2700 RPM if you need, but it's difficult to stay below max MP at higher power settings.

    Heh Tim I'm wondering what you do to record Pilot Edge Audio into the video. I use a headset and for some reason the audio from Live Edge is not recording.

    • @riscfuture
      @riscfuture  3 года назад

      I have my game audio going through my Default Output (my speakers), and my PilotEdge audio going through my Default Communications Output (my headset), and my Default Communications Input is set to my headset mic. In OBS (for streaming) or in Dxtory (for recording), I configured three audio channels, one for each of those output/inputs. In OBS I mix the audio live using their in-app mixer; for Dxtory, I record all three channels at full volume and mix them in Final Cut Pro.

    Not sure if you’ll see this comment but I’m searching for info on why my system has serious problems running the TorqueSim SR22 at anything close to acceptable frame rates. I have a decent system which runs most all the default aircraft just fine at 30 plus fs. Any thoughts on configurations? Much appreciated.

    Tim, great video. Wondering why you loaded the FP by hand? Do you not use Navigraph? I to fly with Foreflight, but Also started to use Navigraph. How do you keep the charts current? You have convinced me to try PilotsEdge.. Real pilot, new Simer, learning the ropes.

    • @riscfuture
      @riscfuture  3 года назад

      I use both Navigraph and ForeFlight. Not sure what you mean by loading the flight plan by hand vs. something else … what other option are you thinking of? I have a real-life charts subscription for ForeFlight, and I have a Navigraph Charts Cloud subscription as well.

    • @MJayFarr
      @MJayFarr 3 года назад

      @@riscfuture my understanding is you can create the route in Navigraph. I usually do in FF and capture the text and do a manual load in Navigraph. From here you upload the .FMS flight plane into Xplane directly from Navaigraph Charts.. It is my understanding at that time you can go to the FLP in the Garmin and just load the plan. For a more complex plan with V/Airways this would be a time saver. Of course, I could be totally wrong :-)

    • @riscfuture

      Do you use X-Camera? It's not about the curves, it's about X-Plane's crappy TrackIR implementation. Use X-Camera and don't worry about the curves.

      @@riscfuture Yeah, I'm using x-camera too. I have a pilot view with track-ir enabled. The other views are fixed. @@dougduplessis4143 I just use a simple 1:1 curve that steepens out only at the edges. That way I have 1:1 tracking when looking at the gauges but can still snap my head to the side to check 6.
