  • This bench was made for the front of the building where my shop is in NYC. The design was a inspired by the bunch of Ipe (the wood) cut offs my buddy left in my shop. The metal was about 100 $
2"x2" tube and arm rest isn 2"x4" Enjoy!

Love this book! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!

"who'll most likely never even hold never mind work with any of your tools"
Duh! Those are Jimmys tools, so no wonder! :D Go shopping some of your own tools in some local business, or drift market and start building. I get if you dont have hands, it might be kinda difficult, but thats just an excuse not to use your feet! Nothing can be archived, including learning, if nothing is done towards that goal, specially if you give up even before trying!
Jimmy has done this decades now, so no wonder he has the experience and skills, but nothing is preventing you to design your own project based on his, in scale you are feeling is fit to your skill level.
I have done some of jimmy style projects with tools from drift market, middle of my living room floor. Sure my GF is not keen on me doing these things here, but after i made her custom 1000€ crafting table, she has quiet about me taking over the living room...
For starters buy old hand planer from drift store, bring the blade to professional to be sharpened and do cleaning/restoration of the wood your self if blade part seems too much to handle. Thats the first project and you never the less will get working hand planer as result, but thats just a start. Good tools just make things faster, but everything can be archived with hand tools over time just like older generations did.
Tools and materials for such project are couple arcs of sand paper and bottle of wood protecting oil like boiled linseed oil, or tung oil. If you want take on the blade part use the sharpening stone that should be part of every kitchen anyways and then some oil to protect metal from rusting.

+Hellsong89 Oh aren't you so great, did you learn how to be so condescending and sanctimonious all by yourself too??
I never said I wanted to make stuff, that was my point- that I have no interest myself, yet I find Jimmys work and channel facinating.
You should check or try read between the lines before you go talking down and bragging to a commenter who was just giving the channel well deserved compliments

I was walking by the streets of NYC and I knew that Jimmy's workshop was around there. Then I saw that amazing bench on the street, yeah... that's DiResta style, it has to be here! Guess what, Jimmy appears out of the blue with a crazy Korean guy!!! Wow, a day to remember. We talk for a while and took some pictures but unfortunately Jimmy was closing the workshop so I had no chance to visit inside, he kindly asked me to wait until he gets back, but I had a flight to catch... well, maybe in my next time in USA! You can recognize his geniality when you question yourself: how could he come with the idea of inserting this piece of wood in the bench's arm!? Amazed! After that I enjoyed the rest of my layover sitting on that marvelous bench while trying to talk with that Korean guy, lots of fun! I left there with a smile in my whole face. Thanks for your kindness and inspiration Jimmy, that's all that a fan hopes to find in an idol!

Hindsight - level the bench and mark the legs out on the sidewalk where the bench will sit. This will scribe the length of the legs to the walk surface. Then you won't need the shim under the left front leg. Nice job with the fab. I love the Ipe!

It is always a pleasure to watch your videos for 15 min brake from work.
I am from Bulgaria - eastern Europe and i have to say that You (and a few of your Coleges if i am honest:) really inspired me to begin to do woodwork and DIY things.
    Perfect bench BTW!
    Thank You Jimmy Diresta

The form of this bench is really nice. The simple palette of materials, really lets the form and craftsmanship standout. I like the little kick on the rear legs, and the RHS used as armrests. Nice one Jimmy.

Jimmy, your building methods are so rugged and abstract but at the same time they're so melodic and precise! Love the work man, keep it up! And your welds are getting much better!

Looks just like my HarborFreight www.harborfreight.com/12-in-double-bevel-sliding-compound-miter-saw-with-laser-guide-system-61969.html
No doubt they roll off the same assembly line. I'm happy with mine and I do cut aluminum with it clamped down and hiding behind something with only my hand exposed... c'mon its harborfreight.
I would love to turn down the RPMS and put one of these Rage Blades for some steel cutting. Anyone got an Idea on how to go about that?
