  • Creamed coconut is made from the dehydrated flesh of a mature coconut and ground down into a cream (which solidifies at normal room temperature and melts upon heating). It imparts a rich creamy texture, with a delicious coconut flavour to soups, curries, stews, sauces and even sweet treats. Check out my article here: www.kindearth.n...

This video was the only one I could find about creamed coconut... all the others were about coconut cream! I'm on a hormone balancing meal plan for a couple of weeks and one of the recipes called for this. The brand I got is exactly the same as what you are showing... so it was easy to follow you and see what to do with it... I LOVE just popping a few chunks in my mouth and chewing them like a treat when I'm craving sweets. I keep the chunks in the fridge and just add to my meals or beverages as I like.

I love this stuff! It's quite versatile, too. To make COCONUT CREAM from creamed coconut, simply blend equal parts creamed coconut and water (or, even better, natural coconut water). For COCONUT MILK, blend one part creamed coconut with TWO parts water or coconut water. I've been buying the same brand she's using here and am 100% satisfied with the product quality in all ways (taste, cost etc). Enjoy!! 🥥🥥🥥

Brilliant. Thanks for this. My mum used to always have this around and used it in curries, but I think she poured boiling water over it to melt it before adding.
I use a small (ready) tin of it that you can buy from Tesco's, which I use in curries, at the last minute, but since the advent of You Know What, they don't seem to be stocking it.
So, I went to one of the Asian stores in my city and asked and sure enough, they had it in block form.
They also had plenty of rice btw! 😉😉
What I needed to know was can I just chop it up and add some to the curry without diluting it, so thanks, once again!

I've done it. As with making homemade dairy whipped cream, using chilled product AND utensils is recommended, though not necessary. 1st make coconut cream by blending equal parts creamed coconut and water. Then simple proceed the same as you would with making dairy whipped cream, whip until desired consistency. Sugar and/or vanilla are optional, per your taste preferences.

Hi Robert - totally agreed - creamed coconut adds something very magical to so many dishes.
When it comes to coconut oil, I am also aware that there are a lot of mixed views on whether it is healthy for us or not. It feels impossible to know, since there is such conflicting information (some of which has ulterior motive). Some suggests that it ha many health benefits and other suggest the opposite. Personally I feel that it is fine in moderation. I don't personally consume it much, only tending to use it in baking for treats.

Everytime I try to make coconut milk from half a block of creamed coconut it curdles :( It's horrible. I drop the plastic covered block in hot water to soften it. Then I cut in half and put it in a long Metallica c cup shaped container. Then I blend using a stick blender. The very sticky and oily fat always separates and the resulting coconut milk is horrible. Is there a full proof way to getting it right? I did once get it right and it was amazing but I forgot what I did.

They just blend it up and make a block? So how comes when you use the block to make coconut cream you don't have to strain out the flesh?

Just chop into small pieces, toss into the soup (or curry or sauce etc) - give it a stir - and then it will rapidly melt in and thicken. It generally just melts when heated. It's helps to chop it down.
