To make chestnut puree you need to omit last step ....baking. After boiling, cool the nuts, peele the skin off, bland it, add sugar, vanilla, rum extract and you will have the most delicious filling for any cake.
I just make a long cut on the round side. Then put in cold water and when the water just reaches the bill put them in the oven 425 for 15 minutes and the shell comes off easy. No brown skin sticking to them.
@@saulrollason1622 I put them on the stove in cold water and a teaspoon or tablespoon (based on how many of salt. Boil for 2 or 3 minutes than drain and wash off salt with cold water. In 425 degree oven for 15 or small ones or 17, 18, for large. The shells with that inner skin come off easily.
@@gfriedman99 very true. Bought some online from a place in Iowa. So far after roasting about 50 everyone has popped out of shell with ease, probably is some are not very sweet.
I simply gave up on them . Scored them boiled them and roasted them . The outer shell came off easy leaving the inner skin on them . There not the same as they used to be . Supermarkets are not happy unless there inject them with rubbish. How do supermarkets know the ingredients contents on natural food ? That's what I'm talking about
He makes it look so easy to cut them. I tried it out this morning and it was damn near impossible to get through the skin. Half of them I got through okay and the skins did pop off as shown. The other half the skins were stuck and I had to re-soak them in boiling water.
If you don't like the music...you can always mute it. Come back yearly to check the timing. Works great, yes, it it hard to cut them. .but, it's worth it. Thanks Crazy Hacker 😊
he has big strong hands that made it looks easy to score the nuts, Dried nuts skin are tough to slice even with bread knife. I never tried it personally but possibly softer if you soak them in warm water first
Good idea to boil first, I'd say finish them off on the grill... just my opinion. Just got 2lbs of chestnuts 12/12/2019 gonna clean them up and roast them in the stove.
Ok, After you boil them for three minutes you said to bake them???? How long and at what temperature I am not wanting to cook or roast them I am looking to peel them to use them in Chestnut Turkey Stuffing, which cooks them.
It works when they are hot and delicious, but you need someone to help clean them cuz if you do it by yourself it takes a bit of time and they and up getting cold and then the skin is harder to get off.
Too much work. Use a bread knife. Draw it backwards across the top of the nut. Flip the nut horizontally and extend the cut down the other side. Don't boil. Put in air fryer for 20 minutes at 400 F. Then wrap them in a cloth towel to let them cool slightly for 10 minutes. I recommend wearing rubber gloves to give you some insulation from the heat.
You don't need to boil. If you have the time just soak them overnight. They'll open nicely in the oven after that. There are other videos on youtube that show this.
@@Lilyium there is a long held myth, an old wive’s tale that chestnuts are full of tannins / tannic acid. This is simple not true. The American chestnut and Chinese chestnut are perfectly harmless to eat raw. A Buckeye chestnut is poisonous, the acorns off a chestnut oak are full of tannins and horse chestnuts are mildly toxic to humans. The misinformation about chestnuts having to be cooked seem to originate in the UK so I’m not sure what they are eating & calling a chestnut. Remember people thought tomatoes were poisonous too. If they are not fresh it doesn’t mater. The skin won’t come off anyway

hmmm.....how long bake and what temperature?????
does soaking them in the water soften the skin? cos it's flippin hard to cut into
Cutting them is the hardest part!
I use an electric knife. It works great.
And it's dangerous too...nearly cut my finger doing it :(
Much safer and easier to use use kitchen scissors
According to Tom Petty, the waiting is the hardest part.
Video didn't show temp he bake them in

Oven roast @ 400° for 20-25 minutes

Will the chestnuts now fully cooked?
Lol my mouth watered when u took a bite lol
At what temperature do you bake them?
Oven roast @ 400° for 20-25 minutes
At what temp?
This is not exactly quickly and easily if each one needs to be scored all the way round like this.
What if I steamed a giant batch is it too late to try to do this method again on the stovetop for easy skin removal?
Man, the music is so annoying, please ditch the music.

How long do you boiled,? what's the oven temperature?
the video in the upper left says boil 3 minutes

I use scissor to cut which is easier than a knife.
Thank you for sharing! I will do that next time.
I find that the best way to roast my chestnuts, is to stand at the fire with my dressing gown open.
video is too long for something this simple. music is annoying
Those hands annoy me

Wrap them in a blanket to keep them warm and moist while you're peeling.

Better to roast on fire and char slightly.

do you have to make a cut in them befroe soaking?
You can soak them a week it doesn’t matter. If they are not fresh it won’t peel rasy

Loved the music you chose!!!! Amazing!
What does it taste like?
Chicken
Taste like Jackfruit seeds after roasted.
Cooking a chestnut makes them taste awful. I will just deal with peeling them.
Raw chestnuts are toxic to humans

You probably shouldn't eat them raw...but maybe you're the special kind of human with an indestructible kidney.

Does it really matter. I just cut the tops off
There is not a " wrong way" to cut a chestnut, if it works to peal it, then is a good method.
