For the car charger you want a retractable wire that locks like a projector screen so it's not constantly pulling on the cable at that weird angle
They make automotive versions of this idk why they didn't use one!
Convenient but not ideal. Those cords can get hot. When coiled they may not get adequate cooling. Maybe newer commercial designs are better but that's at least the reason I didn't want to rig one myself.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate all the amazing things that are in development at LTT engineering. It really shows what happens when a bunch of PC users have the time and money to sit down and design quality products that actually solve problems. It's genuinely so exciting and I can't wait to see what comes out of the lab in the future.
they are mostly selling cheap chinese crap at a mark up
Not gonna lie. I really appreciate Linus letting his engineers refine stuff to the point of over engineering stuff. Makes things better
Thanks for not lying.
If you are going to engineer it. You OVERengineer it. After all. Pretty stuff break.
Don't let the Germans of WW2 hear you!
These magnetic cable management tools are amazing! Love to see innovative products from LTT, and I really need these for my messy desk. Hopefully they won't take another 3 years to become available...
if i'm not mistaken they're close to the final stages, so hopefully by the end of 2024... *fingers crossed*...
My desk is mostly metal as well hopefully they are priced decently...
I guess my comment got deleted for adding a link...
I have what are called Magnetic Cable Zip Tie Base. I use them with long reusable zip ties. I don't need an aesthetically-pleasing arch for something I will never see.
The magnetic inserts for the power strips/screw mounting slots are definitely cool though.
Dude, that magnetic cable management system would be a game-changer for recording studios. Expect and order the moment they're released. I can already imagine half a dozen "off-label" uses for them around a studio.
3:36 There's an easy way to line up the screws. Photocopy the back of the power strip and use that as a guide.
Another option, is some masking tape against the back, mark the holes stick to surface, transfer holes to surface
Just use a piece of paper and poke a pencil into the screw holes. You know if you don't have a handy photocopier about.
Good lord why have i never thought of this
The most insane thing is how obvious it is that Linus has never used 3M strips. Which he admitted in an earlier video.
Magnets are superior anyway.

Pro tip: Most hot glues can be removed from most surfaces (wood, plastic, metal) using Isopropyl-alcohol. Just make sure you put it around the edges and wait a couple minutes.
(If you can, it works even better if you can inject something between the hot-glue and the surface, e.g. by using a syringe)
Also, if you want to mount a power strip with screws, use masking tape, or painters' tape. Tape it to the back of the power strip. Poke holes in the tape where the mounting holes are. Then peel the tape off, and tape it where you want to mount the strip. Drill through the holes, remove the tape. Its faster, and much easier.
Yeah Isopropyl Alcohol On Glue

@@tel0004 great tip!
Isopropyl-alcohol will work, but denatured alcohol is even better for removing hot glue.
The magnetic cable management/mounting methods is a really GOOD idea. Like I hope you got a patent for it good. Maybe someone has already made it but if they haven't you have a good product. Even just for mounting other things to stuff not just wires it would be really cool to use. If you market these things right I think you could do really well.

Fibre cable fragility: not linearly. They're very strong when tugged on in a straight line - stronger than cat6. Just don't bend them sharply or impact them too hard from the side. But they're well sheathed.
better safe than sorry.
Stronger than a cat6 cable? Doubt.
@@hippopotamus86 you can pull on cat6 hard enough to pull it's twists out of spec. The kevlar lining of a fibre cable can't be pulled out of spec... Ultimately you could stress the glass too far, yes, but you'd be working pretty hard to do that. I've deployed campus networks on a mix of multimode and single mode fibres and you're much more likely to have a problem through bend radius than through pulling on the cable.
@@hippopotamus86 Try ripping apart a piece of glass.

I'd get myself things first and then give just a little more than what I had growing up to my kids
If you want your kids to have that life, work for it. I grew up poor and I’m taking accountability for my kids. Part of that is making sure I don’t have kids too early.
@@jacobwonder6735 Also, don't forget that no toys will not replace the presence of parents. If one or both parents are always working, the kids will not have a close relationship with the parent(s), money does not create connection. About time spent with kids, it is also quality over quantity. More time but always absent-minded in work, is much worse than less time with a parent that is really 100% present and engaged.

How to line up screws for a power strip: run blue painters tape along the back, and use a pencil to fill in the holes where the screw go. Remove and apply to whever you are mounting, screw where your marks are. PERFECT mounting. add an extra screw on the side so it can't be bumped off
I think he was meaning how you tend to miss the screwheads when hanging them.
This is what I use.
Just don't forget that the tape is a mirror image when you flip the adhesive side from the device to the wall.
Also don't forget to consider the space needed for the cable and also the space needed for the device to slide into the screws.

The 3M command strips that use the interlocking plastic pegs instead of normal hook and loop (marketed for mounting heavier artworks/framed photos to walls) work exceptionally well for mounting power bricks (even large ones) to furniture. The trick is to orient the strips so that the long dimension runs along the axis of gravity. I've done this for years and nothing has ever fallen off, yet it is a cheap locally available product and easy to remove later. The main flaw is that they are not re-usable once removed.
This type of content is great because it gives so many ideas for the small parts of setups that nobody ever really talks about.

Yvonne will lose out on OnePlus warp charging by using 3rd party cables or bricks. OnePlus moved some of the charging electronics from the phone to the brick which allows for faster charging with less heat.

For your DIY battery case thing you have you should buy one of the fire ball extinguishers. I forget the name but it's literally a ball and when it's thrown into a fire it turns into a foamy liquid that removes the oxygen from fires and sits on top of chemicals to eliminate at least two contacts from the fire tetrahedron. It's super awesome I have one sitting next to battery farm and it saved my house when a car battery I was charging literally blew up in my garage. It did almost no damage to the garage there is just carbon scorching on the a small section of the wall.
I enjoy the emergency breadbox storage for batteries that would burn with a heat great enough to put a hole in the concrete floor. Great thinking, that'll keep the house from burning down!
Yeah, wouldn't keeping them in an enclosed space increase the risk of overheating ?
@@ollianddelphine Not really, imagine the battery in your phone as a great example of a LiPo battery that charges in a very enclosed and warm space. The main issue is a false sense of security.
Battery enclosures are supposed to prevent a fire from spreading for specified amounts of time so that fire alarms can sound and allow for evacuation. Generally, for real battery enclosures, this will get you 90 minutes of time when exposed to ordinary open flame and can resist battery explosions/lithium fires to keep their effects inside the cabinet.
I think the dumb part about it is there are cheaper and better solutions. Those two boxes ran him $50 USD, safer (but not preferred over real cabinets) lipo storage can be had way cheaper and will actually help give you time to deal with battery fires.

Amazing, Linus has found solutions to every problem, including how to drop things *upward,* towards the ceiling!
For the car charger one, wouldn't it be better to use a customized retractable hose reel? The place I worked at had an industrial quality one that was used for air hoses. It worked damn well too considering how "delicate" warehouse workers are with equipment.

I would probably take the extra step of installing fire suppression in my charging station if I had that many batteries in one place.
What kind of "fire suppression" would you put there? You can't really quench a lithium battery fire, right? You can basically just contain it until there's nothing more left in the battery for the reaction to continue. There are also magnetic cables on the market with USB-C, Micro USB and lightning bits. You just put the small bit in the port you have and use one of these cables to magnetically couple them to any of the bits in any of the port kinds and charge.
They don't work well if you want to use the device while charging though. It also means all your chargers will need it, and it won't work reliably if you need data, e.g. Android Auto.

@@veryboringname. I prefer the cable to safely pop off if there is strong enough lateral pull, I did damage a phones port once years ago when I was in a hurry and ripped the phone while charging. Everyone has different needs and preferences, if magnetic cables don't meet your needs that's alright, you don't have to use one. I personally charge my devices either at the desk or the night stand. Somewhat similar to what was shown in the video. The devices I charge with magnetic cable are headphones, controllers, portable lights with motion sensor, AA battery charger, even a portable blender and of course a couple of tablets and my phone. My laptop needs it's 90W so that is used with the charger it came with. Since a lot of the devices are charged once a week or even once every two months it is a lot more convenient for me to have one type of charging cable that is also working with older devices. I know that I migh have even more chargeables on my nightstand than shown here but I definitely have less cables. That is why I mentioned the existence of the magnetic cables, someone might find this information of use.

My two cents on Anker chargers, they do exactly what they say and from the one i hate, 65 watt, 1 type-c, 4 type-a ports, can't remember the model name rn, i've never seen a charger having only around 12mv ripple voltage on any of its ports even at max load, this thing is amazing, gonna buy more of Anker products like this in the future and hopeful they are equally as good in that regard.
4:22 Damn how loose are Canadian plugs/sockets? Could never do that with British plugs.
I love Anker I have several of their wireless chargers around the house love them!
That magnet trick is a game changer for me. I need some!
I have a feeling UK style plugs would pull the power bars off the magnets. Those things can take a lot of force sometimes to pull out
I guess Yvonne wasn’t happy with the “Out of sight, out of mind” solution for hiding the media center’s cables in the video where Linus set up the LG MiniLED TV.
Also, why does Linus still have his Wii U? Is it for Virtual Console, playing his Wii library, or both? Most of Wii U’s major games already got ported to the Switch (with the exception of Xenoblade X).
I would imagine he either has games for it that haven't been ported, doesn't want to buy the game(s) again, or he just likes it.
@@Jinoda or his kids like the tablet part of it
@@Jinoda Yeah, that makes sense.

Legit about to buy multiple products from this video. Good job Linus, you got me.
Exelent video! Pile of good ideas, like visit to the Ikea.
Sure that magnetic power bar mount is cool, but make sure it is strong enough for non american power outlets, you pretty much have the weakest and worst outlets in the world, so test it for outlets that actually hold the plug securely
Agreed. I usually have to use some serious force to pull out a European plug. Have hurt my hand plenty of times because of it. I don't really see a magnet like that holding out in Europe.
Bigger magnet might be strong enough erases data on hard drives... Don't tell me that's another reason not to use hard drives
Yeah first thing I though was those plugs looked incredibly easy to remove, UK plugs at least need a serious amount more force than that to remove them.
new plugs dont come out that easy. ive never used european outlets but i bet its not that big of a difference
@@bradhaines3142 the age of EU plugs doesn't matter as much as the American / Canadian ones do if I look at this video. I don't have any plugs no matter the age that pull out this easy
Oh Linus, always either breaking or dropping something
Wow those magnetic keyhole slot adapters are amazing, such a great idea!
Those power strip mounts are freaking brilliant!
3:35 - Easy to mount things with mounting holes, just use a strip of tape, stick it across the back, over both the holes and mark positions on the tape with a pen, then take off the tape and stick it where you want to mount the thing.
Anker has taken amazing care of me over the last 6 years. I swear by their cables and charging products, and won’t use anything else. :)
bro same actually, i dont even buy other brands. i used to have to buy new cords every 6 months, now ive had the same ones for 5 years, and they still work perfect.
I wish they'd do a version of that last one with a UK plug, it looks so useful. Maybe it's coming later, hope so

It took me that long to legitimately lol Linus you're a literal treasure 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You do know those batteries that you claim are more "dangerous" actually take 10 times the abuse of ANY of the other batteries and keep going. THATS why they might catch more. they're also used MASSIVELY for Hobby grade radio control vehicles, hence why they take MORE abuse.
Agree for hard shell ones like the one he held up. LiPos without a plastic shell are kinda scary though.
@Adam F agree in the radio control hobby we only use the soft packs in slower crawlers (or xxtreme speed vehicles to reduce weight.) Everything else is hard shell.
I think he mentioned that they were "self-made" batteries (and he has made Li Ion packs on camera before, or they may even be retail packs that he has replaced the cells in himself) so I think it's less about those kinds of batteries/packs being dangerous and more about being overly cautious of his own handy work lol.
It's almost scary how much of a different life this guy has compared to everyone else. Good for him though.
It's not like he inherited his wealth. Yvonne and Linus built LTT from the ground up. Gotta respect that more than old money.
gave me some ideas ty
Awesome video!
Nice take on cable management, however if anyone tries something similar I'd really recommend *not* putting anything electrical under something that is going to be wet, even if there is a bit of drain pipe in place. Just don't risk it, mount the electronics to the side.
Similarly, if possible, please don't use power strips on the floor - particularly in a garage. These will get damaged and very likely to be water too. Ideally use actual sockets on a wall, these are much safer than power strips and this is particularly true given the rather murky world of US cabling and power strips where you can very easily get caught out.
