    Thank you for this video!!!! I have had my Beyond 22C for about 9 months now. The Truma was only heating to luke warm water no matter what I did. I figured there was scaling inside the tank or some problem with the unit. I watched your video and had a light bulb go off above my head. I checked and, sure enough, the bypass valve was open. It was mixing cold water with the hot output from the Truma. I closed it off and now it runs perfectly hot. Thanks so much for all your videos!

    My husband and I are shopping for a camper van and have watched many of your videos. We have come to the conclusion that the Coachmen Beyond will best fit our needs, however, we have not yet decided whether the C or D would be best for us. The main point of interest is the size of the bed. Your C has the rear lounge and I wonder if you can tell me the length of the sofa slide when it is down (w/o including the jump seats). So far, we haven't been able to find any specifications for that. We watched the sanitizing video today and also wondered how often that procedure is recommended. BTW, the Coachmen factory tour was extremely helpful--other camper vans don't appear to come up to the quality of workmanship shown in the that video. Many thanks for posting your videos. We will keep watching.

      The way we travel is pretty much anytime of the year, so we don’t have a beginning of travel season. So what I do is typically twice a year, once in February and once in August. But sometimes you might fill with bad water from somewhere. I usually sniff the water before attaching the hose to my van, if it smells bad I won’t use it.
      But if I ever notice my tank water smelling odd I will drain it and do the sanitizing procedure.

    Gard, you always do a great job on these videos. Thank you. I recently watched a video of a Travato owner cleaning the in-line water filter screens on her rig, which seemed to be a challenging process because of the location of these tiny, mesh, in-line filters. Thank you very much.

Not having a gravity fill what I do is I bought one of the water filters, remove the filter, fill the canister with bleach or vinegar and connect from the house to the canister and than from the canister to the fresh water tank. Works great except for me not bypassing the truma. Guess I better flush everything again. Thanks for your video. After you've done the bleachy water thing & are into the phase of draining & continually diluting the small amount of bleachy water left because the egress port is higher than the bottom of the tank could you perhaps drive the opposite side of the van up onto some blocks of some kind, maybe 4-5 inches high to “tilt” the tank some & get more of the remaining bleachy water to drain requiring a small number of refills to totally get rid of the residual bleach. Probably a crazy idea by someone who doesn't have their Beyond yet.

    Why is it nessesery to bypass the Truma Combi? Wouldn' t the sanitizing of hot water part be good in order to kill the germs there?

    • @CampingCoastie
      @CampingCoastie  4 года назад

      You bypass the water heater when you are sanitizing the fresh water tank and waterlines in the RV. Truma does not want people to get bleach inside of the Truma Combi. I am not sure what happens, but was told that the chlorine gets hot it causes problems.

    • @CampingCoastie
      @CampingCoastie  4 года назад

      I am not sure, but it would seem that the water getting hot would kill bacteria. However, usually you boil water to kill bacteria, so I don't think it would get hot enough. I need to check with Truma to find out the way they suggest sanitizing their Combi.

    I understand the reasoning for bypassing the Truma but how does the tank inside the hot water heater get sanitized? Does the heating of the water take care of that? Do you fill and flush it out a few times with clean water? Please let me know what you do. Thank you.

    • @CampingCoastie
      @CampingCoastie  2 года назад

      When you heat the water on the boost cycle it should pretty much sanitize it. But it has to be the boost which gets the water hotter.
      This is from Truma’s website:
      “The water container on the Truma Combi heater should be regularly sterilised and descaled. Any standard cleaning products stocked by specialist camping retailers can be used for cleaning, sterilisation and maintenance. It is important that products are used according to manufacturer specifications in the correct dosage and with the correct exposure time.
      You can also regularly heat the water in the Combi heater to 70°C to prevent the growth of microorganisms. To do this, set the water temperature to
      60°C (on the CP plus control panel, HOT setting), leave the appliance switched on for at least 30 minutes, and do not use any hot water during this time. Once the water reaches a temperature of 60°C, the burner switches off and the residual heat in the heat exchanger heats the water to 70°C.
      You can use standard descaling products from specialist camping retailers, acetic acid or citric acid to descale the water container.
      Add the cleaning or descaling products in the recommended mixing ratio to the appliance via the water intake and allow them to work. Then flush the Truma Combi as part of your water system thoroughly with fresh water.”
