Riverside is a city in Riverside County, California, United States, located in the Inland Empire metropolitan area. I took long trip to find homeless people, walked and search about 3 hours and finally find this is so shocking to see these people and this is not good either for envoirment,Hope somebody help to clean up this area,hope this video can open some eyes and save nature and humans and the city.

Im homeless and always pack up my camp. I never take up permanent residence and leave a small footprint. Its areas like this that creates bad image for the homeless. There are different levels of homelessness. This is by far the worst and its almost always tweakers.

Ok, for those viewers wondering where this is, it's off the bike trail next to Van Buren Avenue bridge, behind the water treatment facility. I have lived in the Riverside area for 40 years and 20 years ago this stretch of river bottom was clean and there weren't any homeless or garbage strewn everywhere. It was a place people enjoyed on horseback, hiking or bike riding. A couple of years ago I decided to take my kayak down this stretch of river and had to ask for help to pull my kayak out right in this area. The man had a campsite to the left of the bike path at the start of this video. His camp was neat and he was happy to help me. It was cold out and he got soaked to the bone. I went home and brought back warm dry clothes, blankets, camping gear and hot food. He was so nice to help me, and was living there because he fell on hard times.

John Daniels yes, it is this bad. Then, to make matters worse, in the summertime people go down there and picnic with their families and leave their trash, dirty diapers and human waste. What was once a lovely slice of nature has been turned into a sesspool.

The ones burned out from drugs don't have properly functioning minds anymore and never will aside from stem cell therapy perhaps. Once the synapse receptors the brain are destroyed, they don't come back. Sad to say some are more animal than human.

It is indeed a choice for many of them. I have tried helping some homeless in the past. The ones that have addiction problems (drugs or alchohol); they are a WRITE-OFF until they make the decision to help themselves. The clock is ticking too.... once the receptors in the brain are permanently damaged by the drug of choice, they can no longer function in society.

@Ronny I actually think that is somewhat of an excuse. There are many times where I see homeless people just throwing their trash onto the ground despite being relatively close to a trash can. I've seen them loiter despite being a few feet from a trash bin! Maybe sometimes what you are saying is the case, but I don't believe for a second that most of the time it is.

People are animals too & we need nature as much as any animal but for too many people there is no nature unless you can afford a few acres of land which most people can’t.
When I was a little kid I used to ride my bike everywhere & go into the woods to explore abandoned houses & stuff but I don’t see kids doing things like that anymore, they’re all at home playing on their iPads or whatever & even if they did try to go outside to play they’d be surrounded by some unsavory characters.

The real estate company I rent from always raise my rent I have to pay for my Medicare and Medicaid. If it was not for my oldest son I would be homeless. Yeah, it's tough on disability with a fixed income. I'm on it for depression, been on it for the last few years, went through a divorce after 19 years of marriage, etc. It's not fun.

I saw an interview with a homeless man on skid row and he said many of the homeless residents there make at least $100 a day. That is more than most people who aren't homeless... Unfortunately, they spend it on their next fix and according to some, "they want to be free of responsibilities." This is not all of them, but too many are homeless because of their addictions. Addictions that started out with just simply hanging out with the wrong group of kids.

There was a long stretch along the river in Colorado Springs that was trashed like this and the homeless got together and cleaned it up.

Thank you for your insight. I feed the hungry and give donated clothes, etc in Portland, Oregon bi-weekly. thousands now cannot afford housing - rent sky high - no low-income housing available. Police just sweep the homeless from place to place. When it rains it is very hard for them.

I lived down there for three months because I was physically and mentally disabled and unable to find a job I could do continuously or any affordable housing. There are indeed a lot of tweakers in the river bottom but let me tell you: this is not the result of true liberal economic policies. It's the result of the Bush economy and a lack of a stronger social safety net. For every three tweakers down there there's at least one or two "normal" people who are in just as bad of a situation. I've known four people personally who have died because of homelessness after they moved to Riverside. Amber, Brian, Janice, and Gigi. Amber got hit by a train, Brian (mentally disabled senior) had a stroke and then a few days later was fed some tainted meth, Janice got run over in a parking lot, and Gigi was stabbed and bludgeoned with a rock for her social security check. None of them were people who could take care of themselves and none of them deserved what happened to them.

I’ve been away from California for years born and raised in Southern California ( since 2003 ) and have only visited a few times , but have spent 9 months out here and I’m shocked at all the homeless and huge amounts of trash out in the streets in Downtown Los Angeles- Long Beach- Hollywood and Burbank areas . I hear it’s just as bad as Northern California. It’s so depressing to see my beautiful home state turning to shit . I still love the people but hate the policies and government that allowed this to happen . I think it’s a combination that has allowed this to get to epidemic proportions. I’m not sure what the answers are but all I know it looks like 3rd world in some areas .

Im pretty familiar with that area. In the summer, the whole place catches fire at leastt 4 times a year. And when it rains in so cal longer than 2 days, everything you see here now, is replaced by stuff from homeless camps a few miles upstream in San Berdu.
No fooling. When we get a storm come through, the river increases 10 fold. The sherrifs helicopter has to fly over and warn them to move.
