Hey Stefaan, Give it a try. It is one of those techniques where you hardly ever need it. But when you need it, it is good to know how to.

Quite informative and rejuvenating video sir ! Would the grafting be successful if the scion and the recipient are of different juniper varieties ?

    • @GrowingBonsai

Yes, this is exactly the idea of grafting a compact variety on a loose one

How are these doing? After watching this and trying it myself, 3 out of 4 are still alive. I'm hoping they go the distance! Loving your channel!

Really nice and informative vid! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. However, if you put your vid on premiere, please join it yorself. RUclips dont like creators that dont join their own premiere. Just a tip if you want to grow your channel.

@@GrowingBonsai I understand the thought. But really, dont do it if you want to grow your channel.

When is the best time to be doing this please? I’m looking to graft onto a Common juniper. Can you graft onto the trunk or does it have to be on a branch? TIA

Hi Ray, this sort of work is best done just as the trees are waking up. So very late winter. It is important to be able to protect the tree from frost. In principle you can graft on the trunk, but it is a lot trickier. Good luck!

    Hi Jelle
Another silly question: can you do grafting like now (end of summer or autum) instead doing it in spring time?
    🙂

Hi JK, What I understand is that there is a challenge with grafting in fall: Frost. If the callus is not mature enough, there is a risk of the graft freezing off. So.. That remains an open question!
