This should be of international concern ... these people may be in all universities ... everywhere. Atrocities like this must never be allowed to be lauded. This must be condemned.
Criticism of Israel’s policies regarding the Gaza Strip does not constitute anti-Semitism Pointing out the desastreus consequences of those policies does not equal support for Hamas’ terror attacks! If those issues can’t be raised and discussed in safety on university grounds, then where? Just saying, the ‘grown ups’ might be the ones at fault here
Yea, well, not all Republicans support Trump, but try telling that to a Democrat. Your point is taken but there is one huge problem. They elected Hamas to run their government. They allow Hamas to operate without protest. They actually danced and celebrated on videos as it was happening. That's a HUGE problem.
@Randy-jz9ox Gaza elected Hamas & there have not been elections since. Gaza is not the only Palestinians. The people of Gaza are refugees who had their land, homes, livelihoods stolen & are forced to live in basically a prison & unable to return home.
Israeli civilians are not responsible for this attack their government is and Palestinians Arabs have not been responsible for Israels attacks on them, Hamas is. The problem for many people is that we've seen video after video of Palestinians Arabs being kicked of their land, terrorized physically, shot and killed, walking over rubble with their dead babies. My heart goes out to all in Israel that now face the same terror and pain. However we are not in the old days when we can be told what to think and feel under threat of blacklisting. In every issue you tell us to side with Israel and shut up, but thats not good enough any longer, we want to analyze the issue and talk about it. The world is simply saying this conflict is not about showing up for the Jewish students/people, its about showing up for all people. Thats the heart of the problem, we want to care about both sides and you clearly don't want us too. Free speech and the protections that come with it are not simple conveniences, they are what makes us The United States, their the blood of our nation.
Thank you.. This old tired tactic was also used during the plandemic. All for the sake to defrauding us of our inherent inalienable rights as human beings.
I mostly agree, BUT the medieval barbaric war crimes that are on the same level as ISIS is NOT equivalent to what Palestinians have endured. This is not the same level of pain. This detail is what upsets moderate, middle of the road people like me who have no connection to either sides but are watching this horror unfold. The wider western public has not seen the videos of the horror because it is too graphic to put on most platforms. Think ISiS level acts and that what you would see, with public in Gaza cheering of the parading of hostages (including those bleeding from between their legs from the violence inflicted on them) and spitting on the bodies of those who are unconscious or dead). This is what happened in ancient times, not the 21st or even 20th century. We need to show compassion. Not pick sides and definitely not gaslight victims and their families by saying that is what you get.
Well, the Palestinians citizens are the ones who elected Hamas and they're the ones spitting, beating, hitting and running beside the kidnapped Israelis. I saw a video of a five year old Israeli boy whose parents were murdered, he was brought into Gaza where other kids his age were beating and teasing him about his dead parents. Palestinians are not human.
Kind of Half of them are flesh shields after all.. and the young teenis join Hamas for food despite their family begging otherwise, in the end the family starves and the son becomes a fat 25yr old.
Americans praying for escalation have not the imagination to see this war reaching them here in the U.S. - that is a failure of foresight. I am American and I don't support either 'side' implicitly. I support peace and people against military action and against authoritarian government. I am not at war. Pray for peace.
Armegedon anyone? 2 major wars going on at the same time, Ukraine vs russia, Israel vs Hamas it’s the beginning chapters that the few that survive will learn of WW3 in the making & the fact the world is almost on the brink of a button push & it’s all over, maybe pray John 3:16 just to be safe from the 2nd death the eternal death. John 3:16 “For this is how God so loved the world that He gave His One and only Son, so that who so ever believes in Him will not perish but shall have eternal life”

Can someone refresh my memory? While Israel was at a relative Peace, what was the reception Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar got for trying to get Israel to the negotiation table by supporting the BDS movement? If my memory is correct, they were sent to the naughty table. Supporting Palestinian Land Rights and Self Determination does not imply support for Hamas's barbaric actions. Likewise, supporting Israel's Right to exist doesn't have to mean supporting the current Government's Apartheid Program.

I have yet to see this show interview any Palestinian living amid the turmoil of the retaliatory bombing-someone who’s a victim of Hamas’ terrorism and the Israeli reaction.
We hear on most US networks say " journalists aren't permitted to enter Gaza", yet networks in Britain, France and elsewhere interview Palestinians inside Gaza daily via Skype or phonecalls. It's appalling to me that MSNBC is no different than its US counterparts in their coverage of Israel. It's nonstop testimonials of Jews intended to build emotional capital for the Israelis while they proceed with their genocide of their concentration camp inmates.

@@baconatoromg6062he’s correct. Before it was ever Palestine it was the kingdom of Judea. It fell in the siege of masada in 70 CE and caused the jewish diaspora. The jewish people have been fighting to return to Jerusalem ever since.
Balanced reporting would require a Palestinian supporter of equal status to be interviewed. It should give you pause when so many groups at Harvard don't see this as a black-and-white issue. There is no excusing the brutality of the Hamas raid. BUT the marginalization and ghetto-izing of the Palestinian population, the theft of their land through illegal settlements of Israelis ignored by the Israeli government, the frequent border closings keeping law-abiding people from going to work or bringing food to their families, the terrorizing of civilians and other routine injustices -- these are bound to lead to rebellion. The route that rebellion took is extreme, and horrible. But to ignore its causes is worse than stupid, it is criminal.
This was not balanced, reporting, but The pro Palestinian anti-Israeli letter was also not balanced. While Israel holds the power, the Palestinians are not innocent in their failure to engage with peace. They allowed militants and extremists to speak for them, and that has moved Israelis away from peace during the last 3 decades. People like to think that Palestinians are completely powerless, but those people fail to see nuance in the world.
And 7000 Palestinians (including innocent women and children) unalived by the state of israel (who considers and treats human beings like ANIMALS) since 2008 iirc. Worse yet, some of the darker Palestinians are actual genetic descendants of Ysrael/Yaaqob.
I could not agree with you more. Actions don’t happen in a vacuum and we can stand against the horrible actions of Hamas, while holding Israel accountable for their part in this.
But Hamas just killed over 1,000 Israelis in one day… so lets do some math. Let’s assume a conservative estimate of 1,000 Israelis killed, given estimates of Israeli deaths are as high as 1,500. In any case, you stated the death toll of Palestinians due to Israeli action is around 7000 since 2008. That’s about 15 years. So, divide 7000 by 15 to get about 467 deaths per year, rounded up. Now we divide that number by 365 to get a rough estimate of deaths per day. About 1.27 deaths per day, bump that up to 2 per day to be generous. So… 2 or 1000, which is more morally bankrupt?
None of that matters. Both sides are not innocent, but it is a glaring FACT that Palestininians just will NOT recognize Israel's right to exist. It all starts there, doesn't it. When the enemy is at your gates, borders, and inside, and have declared your extinction and actively carry out acts to do just that, well, who really is the culprit here? Each time things have been done to ease the plight of Palestinians, it has just resulted in more bloodshed. Let's build some infrastructure, and it gets made into weapons. Pump in money, and it is used to fight longer, harder. All I see are fingers pointing, pointing, and bodies lying in the streets. No-one is offering solutions, because there can't BE any solutions until one side recognizes another's right to exist.

Israel has committed atrocities to paleatine just as horrid as what hamas did. Neither side is good, neither side is a victim. The Palestinian people however, are absolutely a victim here.

Those students have the same rights as everyone else. That right is free speech. Additionally, if you want to be technical, they said they stamd with Palestinians, not hamas. Morally, what they did may be unethical, but they have that right. We either believe in free speech or we don't, but we can't pick and choose. I don't see what good it would do to release their names. If the university really wants to protect children, they should protect them all. This is just my opinion. Doesn't make me right, nor does it make me wrong.
That is extremely disingenuous. Just now they decided to make a statement in favor of "the Palestinian people" and blame Israel for their plight? For all practical purposes, short of a full-throated condemnation, they're standing with Hamas.
But if you make a decision to put your name to a questionable letter, people have the right to call you out Also an employer has the right not to hire you. Life is not without responsibility.
@@ladymary22 it's not a right that you know their names. It's not a right that companies have to know. Would people like to know? Sure, but by not releasing a name doesn't break any laws. I'm not defending the substance, but I am defending their right to do it. I don't see one good outcome by releasing names. Should they have their lives ruined because of a dumba** thing they did when they were young and immature? That being said, if people really wanted to fight against antisemitism, stop voting them into office. They're the ones who have a bigger voice and platform.
Whether its Russians in Ukraine, Europeans in Palestine, the English in Ireland, etc etc etc, it's very rare to try to subjugate a nation without facing horrific violent retaliation.
The First Amendment does NOT apply to having a voice against anything to do with Israel or Jews. People called the 2003 invasion of Iraq a war crime and it was all good. Students and millions of people in America, Canada, Europe, Australia protested the war and called it a war crime. No students were doxed or ridiculed and told "they could not work on Wall Street" for having such views about the 2003 Iraq war. I just realized that as soon as anybody says anything critical about Jews, they're labeled or called antisemites and given a label. There's a scholar named Kenneth Roth, Jewish of course, and reports emerged alleging Roth was blocked from a fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Carr Center for Human Rights over his criticism of Israel. This guy was almost blocked from his position because of writing papers criticizing Israel for its treatment of Palestinians. I do NOT support the Palestinians, what they have done in the past and continue to do with their violence is abhorrent and evil. The only thing I'm trying to say is nobody can say anything critical of Israel or Jews, even if it's backed up by evidence. How many times a day do Republicans criticize the Democrats or the Democrats criticize the GOP, it's all within the First Amendment. How many times do US Citizens criticize US foreign policy about let's say for example US drone strikes in Pakistan or Yemen. Those people are not barred or labeled anti-Democratic or whatever it is. But somebody says "Israel is mistreating Palestinians," well the they're antisemites and we have to ruin their careers and "bar them from ever working on Wall Street."
if the Israelis were burning people, alive, chopping off heads and kidnapping kids, you can be assured that they would’ve had the same energy. Assuming that you’re from the United States, how would you feel if native Americans kidnapped your sister and killed your father a few days ago?
Very sad very unfortunate I’m a Christian and I pray for my Israel brother and sisters God is with us together god bless you I am praying and it’s not ceasing my prayers are continuing for you

If you are a Christian, I urge you to look at the way Christians have been treated in Israel as of late. There are so many videos of what is going on in Israel to Christians. They have been spit on and assaulted continuously.
So this Jewish student leader will condemn the Israeli government’s support of settlers rampaging thru Palestinian villages in the West Bank? Will he express horror at the deaths of Gazans?
There is certainly two sides to this story. This attack is awful, but the Israel’s are causing the same horrific deaths of civilians as they act in revenge. If we are not constructive enough to listen to both sides of this situation, then there will never be a solution.
how is there two sides to murdering children with the criminal sub human filth doing such actually taking videos of such and being proud of such? shawntalley is proven to be evil filth in making lame excuse for such evil
Exactly. It’s all violence until we start putting forth sensible policy to mediate in the short term violence without fueling long term outrage and subsequent violence
Precisely. While Hammas is undoubtedly to blame for its own horrible, inhuman and inexcusable actions, the Israeli government cannot pretend that its own decades of horrible treatment of palestinian people has not played a role in the events of the past week.

All of the same things could be said about Palestinian students - they TOO need support, need to feel safe; they too have been dealing with the dehumanization of their people in the most blatant way (their families live in a apartheid inflicted by Israel). So while, anyone with a conscience can most certainly denounce the atrocities committed against innocent Israelis on Oct 7th by HAMAS terrorists, those same people can also denounce Israel's war crimes against Palestinians for the last 75yrs and counting. And as such, Israel can't be the oppresor and the victim at the same time.

The other thing that bugs me is that egypt being an arab nation, is securing the border to prevent an exodus of Palestinians trying to flee gaza. I can see the argument of israel's mistreatment to those in gaza, but holy cow, why is the bordering country of egypt not able to do anything as a form of aid to their neighbors?

The cause is that nobody in the Middle East wants to take Palestinian immigrants and puts them back in Palestine. Then fund terrorist groups in Palestine, then they attack Israel in the hopes it opens a window for the surrounding countries to wipe out Israel. Everyone should obviously hold those responsible accountable for these crimes against humanity. Those in Hamas command who sanctioned it should be tried for war crimes. However, Israel also needs not to blame the whole of Palestine for the terror attack, despite the horrific slaughter of over 100 and the injury, harm, or capture of over 1,000 Israelis. To keep this into perspective, Hamas is employing horrific geurilla tactics, and factually speaking 4 Palestinians are killed in each conflict for every 1 Israeli killed. We need to put pressure to end violence, form a real peace treaty, and force Israel to come to the table with a peace agreement involving full citizenship, human and civil rights, voting rights, land/monetary reparations, and school busing for all Palestinian families, in the strip and throughout Israel's borders. It needs to be absorbed by Israel as its own province with freedom of and from religion, or as an entirely separate sovereign nation. Additionally, 100% amnesty should be provided for all Palestinian and Hamas military fighters who were not involved in these terror attacks, with the exception of those involved in the recent terror attack. The higher-ups and perpetrators involved must be tried in an international tribunal, as part of the agreement. This is actually causally the fault of the terrorists, but let's be completely rhetorically honest here: Israel is not being demonized, nor is the Israeli government free from blame in the conditions of Palestine directly leading to terror attacks like these. It is obviously also not antisemitic to be firmly against the apartheid ethno-state and its crimes against humanity upon the Palestinian people in Gaza. It is also clearly not Islamophobic to say this is a partially religiously and ethnically motivated hate crime and terror attack which violated the Geneva convention and caused mass brutality and trauma for many around the world. It's time to stop being disingenuous and start blaming the country in power, Israel, for the war-like conditions brought on by the internment camp-like conditions they impose upon Palestine with a police state. It's also time to stop antisemitism dead in its tracks, and not to be confused or to intentionally muddy the waters by claiming anti-zionism to be the same as antisemitism. Israel has an evil government, full stop. Hamas is an evil military dictatorship made of terrorist factions, full stop. No country should maintain enforced ethnic or religious population control, full stop.

Strange that students of such a prestigious university do not understand the ramifications of openly signing such a statement. It's like they didn't think they'd be held responsible for their actions by means of being denied (at best) career opportunities or (at worst) being harassed by folks who bothered to look up the list of signatories.
This is SUPPOSED to be America where everyone is free to have their individual experiences, beliefs, opinions, speech and views. We don't ALL have to agree on everything, or try to silence disagreeing voices.
Why is no one talking about how this is the consequence of woke ideology infiltration on academia? This follows everything in their playbook: land acknowledgements, decolonization, finding oppressors, elevating victimhood.
What Hamas did is unjustifiable and wrong period! But apartheid state of Israel is also wrong for its decades of oppression towards Palestinians people. Calling apartheid state of Israel for its wrong is as justified as calling out Hamas for its wrong doings.

I hate when people try to paint people as evil when if you look at their basic intention it is to try to get people to look at a larger picture and to have sympathy for others and try to see that the story might be more complex than we are being told. Extreme tribalism and calling each other evil is what leads to violence.

Nothing excuses Hamas’ actions, and it’s just the truth some of the blame lands on Israel’s shoulders. If killing civilians is bad by Hamas then it must also be bad by Israel and continuing this conflict with nothing but hate and anger will only make the situation worse.
There is quite a difference(not excusing it though) between a bomb from the IDF accidentally killing a child and terrorists intentionally r*ping women and executing children point blank. Also after watching reactions Saturday by Gaza residents to Hamas’s actions I am convinced that they do widely support their actions and if that is unfortunately the case they are no better than the gunman, and deserve the consequences that follow Saturday’s massacre.

Israel distributes millions of flyers in the Arabic language, and multiple radio announcements weeks in advance warning civilians to leave. I've seen plenty of criticism of Israel- there's an entire Wikipedia article on comparisons of Israel's current system and Apartheid- so- you're wrong.

Which then it came out that they were beheading men, women and children with machetes and shovels. Then boobytrapping the body with explosive.

There’s no way to hear this conversation without seeing the ways in which some people’s humanity is legible while the humanity of other groups of human beings is not.
One could argue these Harvard students are impacted by Palestinian occupation and think apartheid is not okay, that resistance to the siege of Gaza is warranted - one must surmise Mika Brzezinski thinks Palestinian humanity & suffering is less worthy than Israeli humanity. That impression comes through in every editorial decision on this program.
I’d suggest the humanity of both groups is germane and that this is a time for difficult conversations instead of black & white binaries.
Sadly not on Morning Joe
The nerve of Willy to talk about the experience of students having to sit in a class next to someone cheering the savage murder of ‘someone like me’

I condemn war. To say all Palestinians should die or suffer for what Hamas does is wrong. I wish more people would see this. If this happens to one group of people the next will be the annihilation of black people or other races or religious groups some deem unworthy.
So, we ARE reliving 2001 all over again. Same reactions, same righteous retaliations, same efforts to silence dissent.

Speaking of empathy, how much empathy is there for the Palestinians whose lands have been stolen and who have been oppressed by the apartheid state called Israel for the past seventy-five years. Oppression inevitably leads to violence so yes, however horrific, Israel shares the blame for what is going on.
No empathy for deceitful people like Palestinians. These Muslims will never sit in your home and eat your food.
I have no empathy for groups of men that murder people, children, women, babies. I don't have a lot of sympathy for Israel and I have absolutely none for Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, ISIS, and the rest of the murderers. They aren't fighting Israel's military. They are murdering families, like they always do... equivocating between them is useless. One IS worse than the other and Hamas just proved it.
This. And we were also criticised if, while a relative Peace was running, we supported the BDS movement that was trying to get Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu to the negotiating table.
Completely agree with you. However, humas is on a completely different plateau, they need to be removed from the government funds of Iran and removed from the planet. Then, maybe sanity can be found.
If you want to cry and give your land back to the Native Americans and leave the country be my guest.
Also Israelis were always living in Palestine. But after WW2 and the Jewish genocide the French and British decided to draw up lines in Palestine for the Jewish people to live in 1948. Since then the Israeli presence grew as did the military power of Israel until it became the most powerful military in the Middle East and technologically one of the best in the world.
This is not an oppression issue this is how countries have risen and fell for millennia so if you take issue with it give your money, assets and property back to the “oppressed”.
The invader is never a victim.
These students are being unfairly attacked for their beliefs. Their assessment of the current situation is correct.
What hamas did was despicable, but that in no way exempts Israel from the large share of blame they are due for how we got here.
Their assessment of the situation is not correct. Israel didn't "make Hamas do it."
@Snardbafulator Israel herded the Palestinian people in to an open air prison and regularly shot Palestinian children with snipers. Israel may not have made Hamas do this, but they created a situation that bred enough hatred for hamas to do this.
