I accidentally "scammed" somebody on Nookazon a few weeks ago. I didn't realize it until we traded, then the connection was interrupted when I was at the airport (due to them shutting off the game). I was plopped onto my island with all of the items I'd traded in my inventory. The person I traded with messaged me "Nice try" and I was so confused. Evidently, I'd left the bells and a gift, but not the NMT. I tried to explain, but they blocked me. Of course, the gift was a peach surprise box. For those of you who don't know, when you interact with a peach surprise box, it opens to reveal a diaper clad baby on a spring. Not only did I accidentally scam somebody, but I left a "Haha, got you!" gift. I felt like an ass. 😓

Once I felt like a redd art scammer haha
I was willing to sell my "genuine" scenic painting to someone on discord and they offered 5 million bells for it, so they would make two trips to drop them all
Then during the break between the first and the second trip, I decided to place the painting on the floor just to make sure it was genuine. It was not LOL
I began panicking and closed the gate of my island with the excuse that I lost connection 😂 fortunately, they waited patiently and I managed to buy a "genuine genuine" scenic painting to give them 😅 so they came back and we finished our businesses 😆

I have one final suggestion. I once had a trader over on my island, they seemed alright at first and completed by the deal fairly quickly . They went too leave before turning around and asking for 2 million bells or they'd spam me with negative reviews on their ALTs. In the end I refused too pay and just deleted the account (I only had like 4 reviews beforehand) . My advice, take a LOT of screenshots. I also had one person try and ring me on discord before deciding that after only half an hour they'd Report me to the mods for being "unprofessional" because I was at work and couldn't pick up.

    the “friendly scammer”
so there was this girl who one day randomly gave me 30 free nmts. that was cool, i made friends with her.
suddenly she dms me saying “be careful with x nookazon user they scammed me, i wish i could take my 800 nmts back”
last week i went villager hunting and it turned out too well, that i had like 500 nmts left i was probably never using and planning to sell back, i tried to be nice and gave her 200 of them. she didn’t even say thank you.

funny story i like to call the "reverse scam". once i had a few trades at once and it kinda stressed me out. anyways the person i was gonna trade with was gonna give me 1mil bells for 70 nmt (person a). and i had another trade after that for like 15k bells for 10 fish bait (person b). anyways, i went to person a's island thinking that i was giving them the fish bait. so i dropped the fish bait and i got soo confused when they started dropping a WHOLE LOT more than 15k bells. as i said, i was confused but i dropped 10 nmt along with the fish bait bc i wanted to leave a tip. i went back to nookazon to complete the trade and realized i had scammed them on ACCIDENT. how does that even happen???? anyways i started typing as fast as possible and kept apologizing. i went back to their island and gave them all 30 nmt and let them keep the bait bc i felt bad lol. the trade with person b went just fine but i had to apologize to them as well for making them wait. i seriously was so scared i was gonna get reported :')
also i can relate with the "ill be right back" scammer. i was doing a trade for 1 item worth a ton of bells and i severely underestimated how much inv space it would take up so we had to do 2 trips and i was so embarassed haha

Once I had a yard sale that was free of course but it had some tips. I was moderating everything and I saw that there was a player stealing all the tips. It was so annoying. I confronted them and the others in the yard sale were starting to get worried. They dropped the tips and they broke free of the fence with an area I did cover in well and started picking my flowers and picking up diys and furniture I was going to use for a future project. I closed the island and I started to invite everyone but her back. Know it took me forever to collect more bookshelf’s. If I had an opportunity to delete her saved data I would.

I feel like the skit for the "This is Free" Scammer can go both ways. The seller could raise the price even if the price is free and the buyer could say it's free when it's not.

I get out of the airport. weeds. go to nooks, weeds.
There were stil a ton of weeds left.
I left her a 2 star review but then she also left me a 2 star review.

I hardly have used nookazon yet, and am planning to try to use it a bit more soon, but I wouldn't doubt that "wetsuit scammers" exist.
Once I saw someone's nookazon bio say "please don't bring a wetsuit". I wondered why, and did a bit of testing on my own island. Turns out you can jump over the ropes at the airport while wearing a wetsuit.
It would as simple as immediately jumping into the water since people usually wait inside some little trading area inside their island, don't say anything and immediately just snatch a few things, then leave quietly using the minus menu and hope the other person doesn't cut the communication.
Honestly it is more of a thief than a scammer, but pretending that you are about to do a transaction with someone is a pretty good way to join a random person's island so you can attempt to steal stuff.
I felt dirty just writing all of that.

  • @KrowsGraveyard

I just finished the base game Catalog last night, with every item in every color. So I'll mention my encounters (continuation from Part 2).
#1 (Battery Rushing) Let them die, if you're being rushed, you aren't getting a fair deal as a potential buyer/seller. This is true in real life as well!
#2 (Ransom) This never happened to me, and is a very situational thing at best. If this happens to you, just leave. No item is worth being told you have to do something outside your agreement.
#3 (Free) Haven't seen this one either. If this happens to you, button and bail the moment they mention it being free at all.
#4 (Yard Sale) This happens occasionally. If this happens and someone is picking up everything, button and bail. It doesn't matter if others are on your island or not, you are being attacked. Apologize to the others and offer for them to come back alongside an explanation. Also keep the amount of visitors limited to an amount you can reasonably watch.
#5 (BRB) Do not let anyone pick up anything of yours without seeing your part of the trade on the ground!
#6 (Taxing) Do not drop your items if the trade agreement changes along the course of the trade! Also taxing in AC is laughable, entry fees should be limited to Turnips and Stars.
#7 (Principles) As a warning, you can only carry 4 Million Bells or so on your person at a time. If you are making a trade worth more than this, you're setting yourself up for theft immediately! Do NOT let someone have your item/villager unless you have or can easily reach your ENTIRE end of the deal!
#8 (99K) This can be avoided by shadowing the buyer and making sure they are dropping legit bags. If you don't want to be rude, explain what you're going to do before they even come over. If they hesitate or refuse, that's their problem, protect your items!
    #9 (1 NMT) See part 8 above.

This is so far the only "scam" I've dealt with is one time I was doing a trade and someone ran past me and started picking up freebies *without my permission.* I wouldn't mind if someone asked and picked up 1 freebie but the fact that they just went past me and started picking up and learning however many DIYs they wanted instead of being considered of myself or the other traders.

      What do you look for?

    • @ravensrolltop
      @ravensrolltop 3 года назад

@@sadcrab9125 I look for things that indicate authenticity. For example, a person can only trade so many times in one day. If I see dozens of trades in a single day it makes me wonder. Also, if someone has more than a couple hundred reviews but their wishlist doesn’t seem like it should fit with the things they would want at that point in their gameplay, then it’s suspect. Additionally, if people bid those wishlist items and they don’t take the deal it’s suspect. I will risk small items with new users, but I like to see between 50 to 250 trades with 5 star reviews. Below that people can get careless and above that they can get too picky. And yes, there are rare exceptions, but a good profile stands out as such and one not so good makes your gut turn a little.

    A story.
When I touch trade I usually exchange four to five items in exchange for just one. So I decided to touch trade four things in exchange for a black grand piano. The piano was the right color, but the guy I traded with didn’t give me my items back I dropped until I refused to leave. He dropped three things instead of four. I told him I was missing something, that being a black loft bed. After a solid minute of no response, he gives it back. I check my inventory to see if I have everything but i turns out he gave me the wrong item. By that point this guy was really testing my patience so I told him once again to give me my stuff back. He drops the loft bed finally, and I leave. I’m back at my island and I put the loft bed back where I had initially left it. The loft bed is white.
I…don’t even know what to call this. I honestly have no idea why or how this happened, since this guy had over 500 reviews and all of them were 5*, but that was the first time I had ever given someone lower than five stars. I was pissed lol

Helpful tips/rules to prevent foul behavior.
    I. Make a rule board they have to read before proceeding. This makes it clear what your rules are and you can have your rule board listed in your listing as well.
Best rule to list at 1 is, “if you try to take ANYTHING without permission, I WILL crash the game for everyone here, and you will not be welcome back”
    2. If you were here and there was a crash, it means someone tried to scam/steal and you will be invited back shorty.
    3. Payment upfront for yard sale.
    4. Half payment upfront for item sell, other half after item delivered/received, villager traded.
    5. Display item before trading. Wrong item received will result in immediate crash.
    6. Don’t trample my flowers.
    7. I screen record all my trades/sells, have fun getting banned if you try to grift. (You can screen record on switch)

I once met the ‘can i look around?’ Scammer.
So I once listed a free Island tour to give people Some inspiration and this dude acted really nice and talked to me for a bit and they found out that i had a villager moving out who they liked (Ruby).
So while they we’re ‘exploring’ my island alone they invited that villager into their island.
Its not really that big of a deal but it still annoyed me.
They mainly do this when they see or know that you have stuff they can quickly grab

I had an encounter with the "it's the wrong colour" scammer. So basically he/she said yes its a white tankless toilet. He/she was really nice and was really generous. He/she also had 3 "5" star reviews and I thought that would be ok. We had a nice chat but I thought when I said; I'll just get the money and ill be on my way, then he/she said; Ok 😀. It was a bit fishy. I still thought it would be ok so I went on with the trade. Cautiously, I picked up the item and dropped the bells. He/she said thank you and I left. I went home so happy that I FINALLY had a toilet... When I realised the colour was Ivory. Now he/she wants to talk. But hey! I got a refund!
    Love your videos!

Theres this “your a scammer! Scammer”
You give them the bells and say “No! You’re _______ bells short! Your a scammer!” And then they kick you, not letting you get your bells back. And btw…you DO give them the right amount…they just kick you before you can prove it! You don’t even get the item!
This happened to me once. I was gonna buy a tricycle for my kidcore island, along with an elephant slide. I brought the 650,000 bells and nmt, saying I owed them 1,000,000 bells and 5 nmt. They kicked me and it was a great loss of money, not to mention, they guilt tripped me into putting down 765,000 bells, saying they need it for their island, I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I was furious when they said, “You’re trying to scam me! To think I was gonna give the golden crown!” They made up an item, to make me feel like a scammer. Be careful. These people do anything for free bells and stuff.

Not necessarily a scammer, but a rude person none the less. I was trading the spooky fence for 5 NMTs and they came over to my island we did the trade and it was great. And at the time I had tons of stuff on my island because my brother was restarting and didn’t want to lose his items. So when I do the trade this person asks if “I have any mushrooms?” (I did but they were for my brother) I didn’t want to give away my brother’s stuff without asking, ESPECIALLY when the person didn’t ask before hand, so I told them no. I guess they really needed the mushrooms because they walked over to where I was storing his items and said, “yes you do. “Let me have them.” Again I told them no because they weren’t technically my mushrooms. After they left my island they left a three star review and called me rude. Smh 😒

The one i encounter is the "karen buyers". ive had some really entitled people on nookazon. I do free mystery bags for people and i told someone that i was doing another trade and would send my code as soon as i was done. Then then spammed me with "hurry up. Are you sending the code or not? This is slow service! Hurry." And once they were finally on my island they started to complain and demanded to know why i was only doing 5 bags per person , accused me of not trusting them because i blocked off the rest of my island and then they opened their bags on my island and demanded i give them new bags because they werent happy with what they got. (Bear in mind this was A FREE GIVEAWAY.)
And to top it off, another person arrived for their bag and the karen complained because "i thought this was a private meeting..."

Once I had a person selling oarfish for 14.000 bells (i only needed 1 more oarfish for a commission). Then I went to their island, but when I arrived she closed her island with fences and said that she can't open those fences. I was being really stupid at that time and dropped my 14.000 bells. Then the green bar showed up saying that someone is coming to the island. After everything is loaded the person that came took my 14.000 bells and the host kicked me out.

I was witness to a yard sale scammer, this yard sale host only had a small entry fee to take whatever you want of any amount and they had a pipe to go to the area and they didn't set the boundaries right so the scammer was able to get through and steal some grab bags the host had off the side.
The thing was was that I had the same scammer at my yard sale about an hour ago and luckily I had a great boundary so the scammer just took a bunch of random stuff to look like they were there for a yard sale and definitely not there to steal the grab bags I had nearby which they couldn't get

The last one reminded me of this one time I was selling zodiac figurines, at the time I was only selling until the horse one, so 4 years worth of time travel there. Their average price is really high on nookazon, but I was ok with selling them for around 99k. This girl offers 50k, and before I could decline the offer for being too low, she asks to dm me, I accept.
Turns out she wanted 2 figurines and offered to pay 99k for each without me mentioning anything, I thought it was pretty reasonable, so I accepted. Arriving on my island, she gives me the bells, I give her the items, I think she's about to leave, but she tells me to check nookazon.
"Hey, do you have the other figurines? I'm trying to complete my collection" I politely decline, they're quite tedious to get and the whole collection is about 10 years worth of time traveling. She tries pushing it one more time, saying she could offer me 50k more if I could get her the entire collection.
50K MORE. FOR THE ENTIRE COLLECTION.
Not for each, for the entire collection. And I guess to try and convince me she threw in 10 star fragments. I just told her how to get them and said goodbye.
    Why are people like this?

I have another one that is slightly more annoying because it almost gave me a heart attack.
I'm fairly new to the game, I got it on the 8th of this month, but I'm pretty active on nookazon, and a problem I had when starting was inventory. My items were usually lying on a corner in my island (pretty far from the entrance) until quite recently when I was able to finish paying off my debt.
This one time one of my villagers was crafting a decayed tree, I had no idea how much it cost, but I offered it on nookazon anyway. Imagine my surprise when I get an offer worth 1mi bells.
I was so excited I messaged the buyer telling him I had an ABD on my island if he needed one. Only problem was he didn't speak English that well and had no idea what and ABD was, he kept telling me he only needed the recipe, even said it in Spanish.
My Spanish is kind of rusty, but I can understand it well, since I'm brazilian, just not speak that well. I told him to forget it, I had the recipe he needed and he just had to come over. Everything went smoothly, he got the recipe, gave me the bells and I even got him a gyroid as a thank you gift for his generosity.
I was leading him back to the airport when he ran away from me towards the beach, right where I threw down some items in a hurry to fit the 1mi bells in my pockets. I started to panic, he just stopped and started grabbing some of my expensive items, trying to give him a hint as to not do that I told him I would lead him to the airport.
And there it was "no hablo ingles" and ran off to the place he saw from the airplane that I stored my items
I was too scared to kick him out because I didnt know if he had anything of mine on him. My luck was that he was only cataloging the items, but it was one of the scariest experiences I've ever had on nookazon and I regret giving him 4 stars instead of one.

I encountered a scammer once during the early days of Animal Crossing New Horizons. I was at an event dealing with mystery bags. Someone was dropping un-wrapped items on the ground, and I remember that the scammer was wearing a dog-nose accessory at the time, and according to the host, the scammer was planning to say that he did not get the times he wanted so that he could gain sympathy from the owner and get replacement bags depending on the amount he got. Luckily the culprit was thwarted when the owner purposely cut the connection. That'll teach the scammer not to steal from anybody. >:)

    The Karen Scammer:
This scammer I once made a deal with, was so annoying. I was selling something on Nookazon, and it was a color of a blue chair. So the Karen scammer made a deal with me. As it turns out, she was looking for a different color of the chair once she came to my island. Because of this, she complained on how I wasted her time when it’s her own fault for not paying attention to the deal. Then, she started to ruin some of my blue flowers and forced me to pay her more money. I instead just left the game out of stress, and canceled the order. This was just so stressful.
Moral of the story, don’t be a Karen or ruin any strangers flowers after just an honest mistake. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Had one person come over to my island for a strawberry boba. They only offered 1 nmt but I figured I wouldn’t bug them about it, since I needed more reviews at the time. They come to my island and then while on my island, log onto another switch and visit on that one too, saying that the other switch was their sister. They then tried to get free Sanrio items from me and when I said I’d take 8 nmt for a pompompurin TV, they tried to haggle it down to 2 nmt. I said no and so they kept sending sad faces and asking if I was sure and saying I was being kind of rude for not giving them the item. They tried to guilt trip me by sending stuff like “:( okayyy well i guess I’ll be leaving now... sucks too because I really wanted that item.. it would totally make my day...” and stuff like that. Over all a horrible experience and I had to leave my first bad review because of it. I had to kick them off too because they were holding back another trade and just sitting in my airport.

Expecting someone to pay you 10 million bells for a villager who cost you nothing and is leaving your island regardless is a scam in and of itself 🙄 I don't care if the person offered, people who charge people for their second hand villagers really need to have a word with themselves. I'd never entertain them, no matter how much I wanted the villager I'd never, ever go get them off someone like that.

maybe not a scam, but it was pretty weird:
this was on turnip exchange. other than the host, there was me and one other person. they started freaking out saying the host was a scammer. they claimed the nook boys were buying turnips for ~70 instead of ~300. i checked, and no, they were in fact buying for ~300. but they stuck to their claim and had a huge tantrum over it and harassed the host.
I could see this being a way to scam hosts into giving back entrance fees after selling the turnips, but the thing is, the host didn’t charge any entrance fee at all, so there was nothing to be gained from this tantrum.
the crazy guy refused to leave and was being incredibly rude so the host had to shut down their island but told me they would open the island with a different code so i could finish selling. i already had, but i came back anyway and gave them some bells for their trouble

Everything was going smoothly and then they proceed to whip out their ladder. (My entrance used to have a few cliffs that were accessible using a ladder.) and try to explore my island entrance. I mean there’s just flowers and items that you can’t pick up you can’t really do much. One of them was role playing so I’m just assuming that the 2 players were just kids that liked my island. But I did kick them off my island. I still got my items and they got theirs but I left them around a 4-3 star review for trying to look around my island without my permission. Weirdly enough they never left a review themselves.

One time there was a guy who was gonna make me a gold tool for 100,000 bells. I put a fence around my entrance with a crafting table in it. I put all my money in the bank and withdrew EXACTLY 100,000 bells. I took all the bells out of my pocket so they were all in my inventory. I drop the money, he crafts the item. "You're 10,000 bells short" he says. "No I'm not. I counted exactly 100,000 bells when I took it out of my bank." I said. He then demanded I go to my bank and withdraw the rest of the money. I ended session and told him I was going to report him and he said "Oops! My bad! Counted wrong ^^"
Another time I was doing a touch trade. I can't remember what the item was so we're just gonna use boxes or something. So guy wants to touch trade my peach box. Okay no problem, I love helping people out. I went over and he picked up my item. Then he said "Oh no. My box inventory is FULL of boxes! I don't know which box was yours!". Directly after that his friend tried flying over and the game crashed. Convenient timing cause I didn't get my item back. I was like "Man lemme fly back over and get my item" and he's like "Oh I lost it. Sorry." I said I was gonna report him and he started yelling at me telling me I was overreacting and to get over it cause it was a free trade and the item wasn't that valuable anyway. So much for trying to help someone out.
