If you buy a power pack you can use that power pack over and over on so many different FT planes. I think the powerpackis are an investment in future builds. Or you can do what I do. Buy the FT plane and buy the Motor ESC and Servos from ValueHobby for 25 to 35 dollars. They are based in the USA and have inexpensive electronics that work flawlessly. I have been using them for 8 years with no issues. Unfortunately, they don't do international orders You would have to use Hobby King for inexpensive electronics internationally. They used to be a sponsor of FliteTest many years ago.
I think it makes sense to talk about the price like you did - the price without any electronics, and the price with electronics (which a lot of us will already have). The real appeal about these planes is that most of the electronics will outlast the actual airframe after a few crashes, and building a new airframe is SUPER cheap (as opposed to a really great looking RTF that really won't survive one bad crash, especially asthetically).
Flite Test, in the Josh, Josh, and David era, got me back into RC about ten years ago. I hadn't touched a plane in 20 years, but the idea of foamboard scratch builds really resonated with me. Versa forever, baby! Now I have way too many planes and quads, so I guess I have a bone to pick with them?! lol
Awesome,so glad y’all are finally reviewing FliteTest homemade kits… This is how I got into the hobby, Everybody should start off with a trainer kit, if you crash it and beat it up no big deal just slap a little hot glue and some packing tape on it and you’re right back in the air… Packing tape is very important, it will make the plane more than twice as tough…
Awesome tip EJ! Thanks for the heads up 👍💯🙏😎⚓️
yeah, I tape all the weak points.
FT has probably done more for the community than anyone. Just a gut feeling.
When you offer people ways to get into the hobby that are literally free plus the Adams board cost ($1) that is pretty awesome! 👍💯😎⚓️
Sweet pusher jet!! Too cool that you made it. Zooooooom!!!
For 50 dollars up in the air they turn out to be the easiest to fly and make great fpv platforms. Foam board is awesome. Flite test offers many of the plans for free to download and cut out yourself. Also the parkjets like you have there fly sooo good! Nice job on your 1st build.
Flight tests makes amazing products. I currently have 5 of there planes!!!! Amazing prices and Easy to build for beginners .
The Flite Test "Alpha/Bravo/Charlie" series are the same control/power configuration, and were designed by a school STEM class. I built my first Alpha from the plans, just to see how I would do making everything from scratch, and it flew quite well. The biggest mistake I made on it was not painting or sealing the dollar store foam board, and it ended up warping from the humidity. I built a second one from the speed build kit, and gave it a nice paint job.
My current FT build is the Retro Rocket. I really enjoy the Flite Test kits.
I met the flite test guys at flite fest south almost a decade ago. Great product and the best part is their kits are built around their power packs, so if you wad it up you can build a whole new one and just swap never the electronics.
I've got several aircraft and a few of the electronics packs in the barn from back in the day.
Great guys at Flight Test, and we have a branch of their business here in South Africa.
Oh, and they are Christians. Blessings.
So proud of you Nate for building that plane because now you have given me the motivation to build the exact same plane myself!! Seems like you did a great job the way it's flying! I know a lot of us want to see a variety of types and styles so we'll be waiting!! Thank you RC Saylors!!!
So glad you found Flite Test!
Great feeling to fly a plane you've built yourself! 100% of my planes are home made, made out of Adam's Readi-board.... and I also make them for members of a couple of local clubs for stress-free flying (no crying when crashed).
This is a beautiful and actually quite a bargain! best of all it is Made in USA!! USA! USA! USA!
This is so freaking awesome!!!! Also the site has some really cool kits with some great radios👍🏼 you hit it right on the head nate we really need to support our companies right here in the states and what I think makes this a no brainer is the lifetime warranty on the electronics! I'm very interested in seeing this again but with a RC SAYLORS paint scheme 😁🙏🏼✌🏼
😮 WOW That is Amazing That You Built it Yourself Nate 👌 My Old Man Fred Mollard Always Talks About You And Abby and How You Guys Got Him Into The RC Hobby About 3 or 4 year's ago just from watching your Utube RC Channel and Taking Your Advice and Buying His First Hobby Grade RC Plane's The Big Areo Scout RTF in 2020 ! Now He Has a Big Collection of so Many Different Plane's it's Crazy 😆 Fred is Definitely Addicted To RC's 100% And You & Abby Got Him Hooked on The RC Hobby But It's All Good and Better Then Other Bad Things Now a Days Ya Know 👌!!! Thank You Both ❤ God Bless You and Your Family 🙏 💘 😃 !!!
Always interested in prices. I've been saying you should do some building of your own too. Granted that's not always what everyone wants to do, but you've got enough parts from crashes we've seen. I've seen these guys, they make some real neat stuff. Cool build!
Nice job Nate 👏 but your camera operator Abby is a great team effort 👌
You Should look into rounding the edges of those foam planes.., (laminar flow) fuse, and wings, the plane will fly even better, (trim the edges of the Wing's, Rudder, and Elevons with balsawood strip's),
I just love Josh, Nate, and the whole Team @FT... They rock, You could also ask Josh, about the High School, Kids that build all kinds of jets..., a few years back... You will be happy you did!! 🙃😁
awesome build. If you love this you will love the FT arrow as well, that's my favorite plane from them and it's like 4 pieces lol. Huge lifesaving tip to make Z-bends less terrible is to just get the fancy Z-bend pliers. They are a lifesaver.
The Arrow is awsome, so fast to build, and flies great.
Now make the Retro Rocket EDF! We can fly together at Flite Fest!
They are awsome!!! I love those planes. A while back I bought a three pack and the were awsome. Great video
Congrats. Welcome to the exciting world of craft building. Hope to see you build many more.
Hey guy's. I just ordered one through your link. A friend of mine made me something similar that fly's great. I'm going to do mine up in Red White and Blue! Great job Abby keeping this plane in frame.
FUN flight and Nate put it together, I said he put it together, etc.!! Too long trying to catch it!! I'm all for made in America!! Keep up the GREAT work and thanks Saylors!! 💟👍😎
Haha, maybe I could have stopped trying to catch it after the second or third attempt 😅 Love that these truly are made in America! Hope to see more people trying and flying them, including myself! 👍🇺🇸😎⚓️
Very nice Nate. Doing FT builds and getting them to fly is so rewarding. I like setting a just finished model next to the box it came in and marvel how it once fit in the box. Colored Sharpies, the big ones, can be used to dress up your model more quickly and with less mess than painting.
Ps. I've got a Tutor and a Tiny Tutor still in their respective box waiting on some rainy day to get built.
I love my profile foam jets. But I put edf motors on them. Then they sound great and you don't have to watch your fingers so much👍
There are a bunch of RC forums out on the web for building "foam board" profile type aircraft, using electronics scavenged from past models. You did an awesome job on that RC aircraft and it flies well. A build video on something like that would be neat. Thanks for showing us what is possible.
Thanks Jeffrey! I’ll have to start diving more into this part of the RC world. We started with Sparrows from scratch many years ago and stepped away from this kind of RC. I feel that it is extremely rewarding now, to fly something that I actually made! Appreciate you stopping by 👍💯🙏😎⚓️
I bought and made one of the Flite Test Biplanes and I loved the experience of making and painting it. I haven't flown it yet as I crash everything I fly yet. I want to get better before I take it out.
That will be my next plane purchase
Man I like it so now I got to build me one thank u nat an little lady God bless y'all from Loganville Georgia
Hey RC Saylors, come shoot videos at Flite Fest in June!!!
Sounds like an awesome time!! Are you going to build any FT things before then? ⚓️
@@TheRcSaylorsYes, I have a Tutor and Boomin' Flerken to build! Also working on our own design 3D printed/ CF arrow shafts/foam board combat planes. Quick cheap and easy to decorate for combat and eventual destruction. Look for the bread 🍞 plane when you visit.
Love those guys may very first flight was a flitetest plane still love building them
That’s awesome rad!! What’s the next one on your radar? Also, which one do you recommend I try next? 👍💯😎⚓️
Love my FT Tutor and the just orders the Boomin Flerken. These are great for beginners. Budget friendly place to start.
Awesome!! I’m looking forward to at least a couple more builds this summer for sure. Huge favor to ask: will you click our link for your next order? Trying to establish a strong relationship between us and FT and everything helps!! 🙏 Thank you and Happy Flying! 👍💯😎⚓️
Great job Nate I hope you guys are doing well! 😊 👍
I believe it’s a straight kit plane. Go Bless Flite test for their very economical kits! Some are free minus electronics. The have a full line of planes & products. Wide variety of electronics for each plane. Very few tools required!
Be careful Nate. A friend of mine had 33 stitches from a propeller yesterday testing his throttle cut switch.
I’m early again 3 times in a row 😂😂 and nicely done ✅ Nate sweet looking jet 🛩️ 😊😊😊⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️
This little - ehm... let's call it "foam-bone" (😊) flies much better than I thought it would... As stable as it "lies" on the air requires a con
Super cool plane I’m not sure I could fly with my nubby but sounds super fun
Need to get them to make a mini sea duck
There are free plans for one in the Flite test forum. Flite Test do sell a big sea duck kit though
@@jedbench5887
Awesome, I didn't know about the mini.
Hi Nate, these are also nice airplanes and of course your own one that you also made yourself is great when it goes into the air and flies. You are also proud of this. Nate also likes this one from Flite test FT Bloody Wonder MKR2. also a great plane. Happy flying.
👍😃🛩
Thanks Richard!! I’ll definitely check that one out. Greatly appreciate you! Happy Flying my friend 👍💯😎🙏⚓️
😃👍
Awesome job Nate. Looks like it flies great. I bought the kit havent built it yet.
It’s really not all that challenging! If I can do it with these results my first try, I truly believe most can succeed with this also 👍💯😎⚓️
Vraiment sympa ❤
It's a great plane. Great video! I think you should price it at the foam board kit price? And then separate new electronics. We all have the parts for the most part in our tool boxes.
Good point! So basically, this is a $25 airplane 👍💯 And you are right! I had enough parts laying around to build this without needing to buy any. But I do love that lifetime warranty on the motor and ESC! 😎⚓️
That radial motor is so strong and fast! And I never knew that they had that kind of a warranty! And their power packs are a sure thing which some people need!
Nate, thanks for the video, but we don't see an accidental amputation! :} Love 'ya!
100% Agreed! That was definitely an accident, and those do happen. I won’t ever do that one again. Just didn’t get throttle low enough. 💯⚓️
@@TheRcSaylors I was more just kidding you, I've experienced a couple of "people juice" leaks, both from pusher-prop aircraft~
I love flitetest airplanes so much fun saves you money
I've thought about getting FT planes but the shipping is expensive. Since it's not a huge company I'm sure they have to.
Wait for a sale; they come around pretty often.
I love watching their video's. I've gotten one plane from them, a Micro Adventure I think. It's a prebuilt.
Love flite test ❤ but your right the shipping is prohibitively expensive! This kit is like 40ish Aussie dollars but the shipping is close to 100!! So 140 for some foam with no electronics is killer 😢
@TheRCSaylors, Hi, BTW I enjoy watching you fly, All Kinds of Different Planes...🙃😁😄
Thanks John! 🙏👍💯⚓️
@@TheRcSaylors You Are So Very Welcome!!
Nice work Nate. But you gotta paint that thing man. At least grey or something. 😂😁
Definitely felt that after watching my video back. I considered painting it after I built it, but was afraid I’d mess something up. 😅⚓️
I built the FT f22 mini, 5he ft simple cub. And a couple others. You can minwax it to help make it water resistant
Very nice
Thanks for tuning in!! 👍🙏💯⚓️
That was some great flying, Nate! You often fly with no stabilization, etc., and that shows off your skill. I respect that. Oh my gosh Abby was in a silly mood! Whoa. lol. Nate, if she ever makes too many 'little remarks' whilst you are in flight, I call for a head shot! No, no.. I mean nice, good 'in-close' shots of her while SHE'S flying! This was fun! Thanks guys. Be well :)
Very cool and neat to see things out there like this. When looking for price I'd like to know the cost of plane + electronics and then cost of RTF if I don't have a battery and transmitter already.
Nate that thing rips I don't blame you I would be very proud
That is awesome! I am really impressed that the prop is still in one piece! Males me wonder if the design helps the prop rest in a horizontal position?
Nice
I built the mini for $60, and had hours and hours of fun. Talk about the price!
That’s great 1212!! 👍💯⚓️
Add cowling to kind of shape it and make it look better
That could be pretty cool! 👍😎💯⚓️
Want build foam board please. Mud duck!
Are you guys coming to wings over Edgewater memorial day weekend?
Wow! That thing looks awkward to launch! Very cool to fly tho!
I’m probably launching poorly. Sort of a running joke, but I’m awful at hand launches!! Regardless, I did manage to get it in the air which says a lot! I’ve had much worse launches than this, lol 😂👍😅💯⚓️
I like your new plan.l was wondering if you could tell me how to get a new ramp what site to go to
A ramp for RC cars? ⚓️
Yes
Lol it was supposed to say plane not plan lol
bit.ly/3Bgsqi9
It’s pricey, but you’ll not find a better ramp or ever need to replace this one. 👍💯⚓️
Thank you
OK, Nate "let Slip" how many hours he Spent "Trapped, facing his Workbench." (Now "enquiring Minds" wish to know how many Hours it took, to re-size EVERY Nate-sized Hat in the house.)
(Abby, there is a book written by May N. Wallace entitled 'The Ghost of Dibble Hollow.' I'm giving Away the whole plotline; but Miles Dibble could not differentiate his "Righty Tighty" from his "Lefty Lucy," either. {Made for a pretty fine Tale.})
😎✌️
Why didn't you practice power off glide slope before trying to catch it ? Dah!
I should have done that, yes 👍😅💯⚓️
Why does it sound like a WW2 Gernman Doodlebug Buzz bomb? 😂Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Boom! I apologize to all the English folk watching this video. No need to duck and take cover. it's just Nate flying a cardboard Jet. 😂
It doesn't sound anything like a V1 and the plane is made of foam board, not cardboard.
What is the total weight? 🤔
It will vary for some depending on how much glue you use and what battery you go with 👍💯⚓️
@@TheRcSaylors and the total price? It seems it's $300+ with radio, the only way this is interesting is if you have the electronics laying around 🤔
@@TheRcSaylors wow really? I would have never thought of that, this plane looks pathetic and you're all excited because you built it? Try putting a wood plane together for 20 hrs, you're also calling it micro which it isn't that will get anyone in trouble at a park. I'll stick to buying used planes off Craigslist to save money and fold some paper airplanes for kicks 🤔😵
:-)
:-)
Grey / white clouds & Nate you say grey. NO, NO & NO ‼️ Bright orange, bright yellow, or bright pink as Abby suggested yesterday. Not blah, dull grey. You want it seen not lost in the background. Abby wants pink,🦩 Amelia likes orange 🍊& yellow.🍋 So choose wisely. Go orange body, pink tail fins🐬🐋🦈. Get creative Nate ol son. Do solid or stripes. It's not often you get a chance to color choice your plane. Listen to your Better half aka Abby & your loving Daddy adoring daughter aka Amelia. Don't know if Daniel has a favorite color yet. Oh yeah plane looks ( except color ) great & flew well.😁😁😏. Does the position of the prop being blocked by the tail diminish the push❓️⚓️⚓️👍💛🧡💚👍🐬🐋🦈😁😏👍⚓️⚓️.
That is an African plane.
We mean the foam board is made in the USA and the laser cut out kit 👍💯🇺🇸😎⚓️
Yee haa! USA USA USA, have you any idea of how the world looks at you? electricals made in china ye?
Could you please clarify your statement? I feel like jumping to a conclusion here, but I’d rather not and give you a better chance to explain to me what you mean. I’m hoping that you aren’t passing some judgement without knowing me personally. 🙏❤️💯⚓️
Nate is talking about the actual Jet being made in the USA using ready-made foam board and it is laser cut in the USA. The electronics are separate. You can use whatever electronics you want. German Japanese, American, Chinese, Czech. Yes, there are plenty of RC electronics made in the USA if you want to spend the money on high-quality products. But like I said. Nate is talking about the Airframe being made in the USA. That is a fact.
The motors are in fact Flitetests own design, they are not just rebranded stuff. And even models from Germany, like Multiplex, are made in China. The Chinese can make good stuff if you just pay them enough.
What absolute crap
😱😱😱
Damn, the Wright brothers have nothing on Nate!!
Unironically this might have more horsepower
