I prefer queen to A6 threatening queen to C8 , given that black indeed did move his rook to F6. At the very least I could see a piece up after perhaps a queen exchange or retreat by black.

In addition, white has that passed pawn coming up the a-file. Will the capture of white's bishop on h6, which is going to take 2 moves to do from this vantage point, be sufficient compensation?

Yeah spending three moves to go after that white bishop seems like he was banking on Magnus' obvious drunkenness to not see h4. To be fair, I don't really see any better options for black.

Pretty sure there a few stories concerning this. Either Radjabov said that Magnus was so good he could beat him with A4 or that he was so tired that Magnus might as well play A4 cos he could still win.

If it was calculated it's a nightmare. I love the bishop/knight trade on c4. That made the magic happen and after that the bishop was not trapped. He could simply take a pawn Bxg5. But boiling him in ""desperate"" h4 is beautiful :-). Just wow
Magnus plays around on the passed pawn side while his opponent sets a trap for himself trying to grab that Bishop, knowing full well he never saw that h pawn move coming. That was nasty, and in blitz nonetheless.
