Gears of War is one of the most iconic games of the last generation of consoles. Gears kicked up this seminal third person shooter franchise that became a staple of the Xbox 360. Now, 9 years later, it has been remastered. There are a lot of subtle differences here. The world is more colorful and vivid. The multiplayer has been modernized in it's movement and feel. In my opinion, this is what a remaster should be. It should stay loyal to the original, but make significant improvements. Many of the recent "remasters" have been upgrades of games that came out only a year ago. Gears does it right.
The cutscenes have been fully reworked by Plastic Wax. They feel movie-like. As always we included relevant gameplay, important dialogue and all cutscenes to create a fluid cinematic experience. We hope you enjoy!

This Gears had the dark and horror vibes that I fell in love with. I wish the future games would revert back to this type of atmosphere.

Well the thing about gears 2 is that the game wasn’t as popular as the first or third, the multiplayer was really just nothing special, in fact they shut down the online servers for gears 2 because no one played it.

That's pretty they are genetically engineered.
For some reason, I can't get over how well done the beserker scene is compared to the orginal. The animation is better, more fluid, the lighting is better, and it shows just how brutal a beserker can get, especially if it's tearing someone to bits.
I like how "military this one and 2 felt" 3 was kinda weird how they disbanded everything
By Gears 3 it looked like the COG and Locust fought each other to total collapse, leaving just the hardcore remnants.
There’s five gears of war books written by Karen Travis set in between gears one and gears three that you should read to get a better idea of why things were the way they were in gears three
3 the government was litterally all dead. The island Adam Fenix was on was the last of it and they got wiped out with even Chairman Prescott dying on the first mission and the normal army couldnt stop the Lambent
@@rubenlopez3364 And the Lambent in turn eradicated most of the surviving Locust and COG humans, billions upon billions dead. By 4's era, humanity is recovering from the brink of extinction and the COG rebuilt from scratch.

I always loved how in the gears of war series when you pop someone's head off with the long shot there's that little delay when the body just sits there frozen.
Its probably because the body takes a few moments to react that brain signal is completely gone
Subtle and creepy, a theme the first 2 games nailed cleanly.

Just like Halo CE and Halo 2 they have really made these gems into art. Makes it feel like when they first came out, how good they looked compared to the other stuff.

sadly doutful this was a full remake from the ground up and because gears 1 did not have alot of complicated and huge open stuff it was easy but to remake gears 2 in modern graphics would cost alot of money for a remaster because of how big it was

Man, this game was my childhood. This came out while Halo 2 was still the top multiplayer shooter. So many memories..even the glitches were cool, from rodey running to kung fu backflips.
My favorite game franchise. Brings back lots of great memories. Great friendships formed, great matches. Simpler times.
The Cart Ride was the bane of my game on insane. Those wretches always killed you if you didn't have a shotgun. What makes it worse is that you respawn at the beginning of the ride, so in case you forgot to pick up a shotgun, or boltok pistol, you're basically screwed.

This is how video games are made none of this crafting items, side quests and all that just great gameplay and a high quality story/campaign I also love that the narrative doesn't interrupt from the gameplay and is done perfectly just an amazing game

The gameplay and story of GOW has always been impressive but I feel like not enough is said about the incredible voice acting this franchise has John DiMaggio and others did an impeccable job.

In the original, there was both ink in the sky as well as more Kryll. You could see the Kryll flowing in the sky... as many as if it were a current of water. Here in UE, they look scattered so it doesn't look as good.
It also seems that they made the game a lots less dark from what I remember (but really good). Not sure, but when I played the part where you had to drive the Junker, that part always gave me the creeps and was hard as hell.

Nice playthrough. Normally, I don't shoot those tanks in the Nighfall episode when I'm in a confrontation with the locusts. Those krills come out quite handy doing the work for me. As that saying goes, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." :) After I've killed all the locusts attacking me, or the krill have, then I go ahead and shoot those tanks.

I can't be the only one that actually prefers the original cinematics. The tone and cinematography of the original, while sometimes simpler, gave a much better vibe to the game.

I think thet stayed mostly true to the original and improved on some scenes, such as that first dialogue scene with hoffman and the berserker entrance. I don't know what "vibe" you mean that you miss, but I'm guessing the older one was far greyer, but that's about it.
Kinda have to disagree. This one's shot a lot more professionally. I was rewatching the old Gears 1 cutscenes, and they feel a little clunky at times. This feels cleaner (with regards to cinematography and whatnot).
Admittedly though, Gears 1 does still feel VERY gritty, even by today's standards. And I guess some of the dirt in the original game did add to the feel.
Everyone seems jittery in the remaster, as if they did a whole heap of speed before every cutscene.

Killer Orca not exactly, the reason their arms are so beefed up in the original isn’t a graphics issue. the Gears in the comics take genetic enhancements (basically beefed up roids) to match locust strength

@MasterSteel105 To be fair, that's a natural reaction. Once you're pass the shock, your flight/fight instincts (and with Marcus' being very fight) would kick in and the natural reaction is to try and fight.

I love the hell out of Gears of War. I love what they did to the remake; but I will always be a fan of the classic. Especially since the classic was frightening to me as a kid
At 43:00, you could've shot a couple of propane tanks to your top left. That'd bring a huge gas tank down onto the Boomer hole and kill them all instantly.
The animation is a bit more rubbery and not quite as...jerky. It's a little jarring. Not bad at all, just... I guess im not used to it. they also toned down the bloom a whole awful lot. Which, in a lot of cases works, takes out a lot of motion blur and lens flare problems, but there were some scenes at dusk and dawn that the bloom actually made it prettier and fit the mood lots better than the less saturated new version
There are a bunch of way little details I noticed, such as tiny stones vibrating as the world shakes, or more detailed particle effects, little details that add more life to the images, and I really appreciate the new attention to that.
Also, they must have used the original sound files, because Anthony Carmine still pronounces "Aspho Fields" wrong :P
The lighting is INFINITELY better. I can actually see characters in the dark and what they're doing.

I love the ultimate edition cutscenes for Gears of War 1. It was awesome. It shows besides Marcus Fenix making all the kills, other gears human soldiers can also fight pretty well killing a locust or putting up a pretty good fight. At 0:40, if you look in the background. You see a random human gear soldier walking towards a wounded locust warrior. The random human gear soldier lifts his leg and crushes the locusts head flat with his foot killing the locust. Nice!! But unfortunately, a Brumak bursts from the wall of the house in the background sweeping away/crushing that random human Gear to his death. At 19:56, Lt. Kim fires bursts with his Lancer assault rifle killing 2 locusts himself. Awesome!! Then at 20:09, Lt. Kim like a boss turns on his chainsaw bayonet with his rifle and tries to slice the locust general Raam. But Raam, also a badass boss grabs the chainsaw bayonet with his one hand blocking Lt. Kim's chainsaw attack and throwing the chainsaw rifle away from Lt. Kim and kills Lt. Kim. RIP Lt. Kim, you will be missed. At 55:35, while Marcus and Dom are sliding down the watery slope. Dom slides and does a combat roll after sliding onto his feet. Nice move Dom!! Finally, at 1:31:06. You see the Cole Train fire a burst with his rifle and kill a locust. Good kill. And that's it. Even though the locusts are bigger and stronger than the humans, the humans are just as strong and can kick ass!!

Me and my crew used to run through this game. Gears 2 horde was the OG horde. If you could survive 50 ways of Gears 2 horde, Gears 4 & 5 were cake walks.
Gears 5 campaign disappointed me so much, they should've finished it before releasing it..
1:12:59 i absolutely hate that scene. only because i was playing on the hardest difficulty, and for some reason, the developers decided to put your checkpoint just before the cutscene, and you have to watch it. every. single. time. as far as i could tell at least there was no skip button, and im sure i mashed every button.

Thank you for not just showing the animated cutscenes and for also including the in game dialogue during gameplay. So many people don’t include the in game dialogue and it’s honestly really annoying for when it randomly cuts to certain parts of the game without context to how they got there.

I noticed that Marcus made a comment about how his dad tried to "stop this war" but I'm pretty sure they didn't know of Adam's involvement with the Locust until Gears 3 when they met up with him on Azura. I wonder if it was simply retconned in the later games or what.

Its Sept 14 2019 and im kinda late but just now got around to playing ultimate edition because back in the day me and an old friend who has since passed on played the original gears co- op and online so much that i figured its stuff i have saw dozens of times. So i decided since i have game pass and gears 5 just released that i would go back and play all the campaigns again to kinda get back into story. Wow was i surprised with this remaster! They knocked it outta the park with this one! Only thing bad is it has me really missing my best friend and is way more emotional for me than i had anticipated. I can remember during certain parts him telling me to look over there for a tag or us laughing and having a great time while getting some of the most satisfying head shots ever!! Funny how certain games or movies trigger such emotions in us. Anyhow is anyone else here in 2019 enjoying this title still???

This game was everything to me when it came out. I had left video games until this game graced my petulant presence. I say the first game but this one is 👌🏻
Gotta say I like playing the original version better, sure they graphics look better but they literally change camera angels and sometimes whole scenes from the original. Just doesn’t feel as gritty and badass

+TheLWebb100 it certainly looks a lot better...but I feel some of the characters faces have been altered too much (Baird for one, he looks too young...he was young in Judgment and now he should be a bit older and his face is too round and Dom's face is also too round, he used to have a square face). but Anya and Cole look way better as does Kim so...it kind of balances out.
