    When you are pushing your boat out to sea you have to have your paddles out in position so you can paddle out off the breaker zone where the waves break then when you see your out of the danger zone you can start your engine. Cheers, Chris and Ange.

    Hi Chris. In a boat the first thing you need to do is balance the load. You do not want weight up the front. You can tell if you are balanced if the boat sits level, demonstrated by the even and ideally small wave coming out from each side. If you are barging the engine works harder and it is harder to control. Put the heavy things in the middle/rear and put Ange only slightly forward of you the same distance from the centre sitting on the side, holding on. If you crash or stop suddenly she won't go over the front either. 🏴‍☠But hey you survived your first blat in a rib.

      As a backup I'd attach the outboard with a strong plastic covered stainless cable between the transom & the outboard. I used a padlocked bike chain. They've been known to jump off if only clamped. We lost one in a river just like that, never to be seen again.

      On a light boat, balance is crucial for optimum speed and is safer as well when everything goes sideways. Love the channel you guys.

    Looks like you will be having some intense fun in the near future guys . Practice makes perfect.Just a tip Chris ,when replacing spark plugs ,even though they are new always check the gap is set to specification . Get yourself a feeler gauge .. As a mechanic of 50 years i have found many plug gaps incorrect from new . Stay safe and enjoy.

    Lots to learn when trying new things . Try move the trim rod on the bottom of the outboard bracket out one hole, that should got the nose up a bit more at full throttle. Also lower your wheels and trim up the motor when coming to shore well before you get to the breakers, then just throttle straight up on shore and have Ange jump out and control the nose. This way you only need to close the throttle when you run up on the beach rather than reach behind you to pull up the motor. There should be a lever that will let the motor run half way up for shallow water use, use that when you come in and the wheels will hit before the motor. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h.

    Hi Chris, I cannot believe you tried your new boat out on your maiden voyage up those croc infested waters lined with midge & mozzie riddled mangroves where there is no where to get help if something happened and just to see how fast it would go, a nice fresh water lake would have been the better choice.
    I,m not trying to discourage you and Ange but you just need some experience behind you. You mentioned going to Pelorus Island but 20 kms in a little boat is a fair ride and in those waters, it can get very rough and if the wind changes or blows harder you will have a rough time getting back to Lucinda so be very careful in those water it can change very quickly.
    You will have fun with your new boat and I hope you catch lots of fish.

    hey Chris. i know its a bit late but don't stress that prop mate. I wish i could show you some pics of props iv had come in for repair but in comparison yours is like new. Keep it going until you get some creek running time in so it doesn't hurt when you clip a rock bar or three. then you can but a new one or even have that one repaired and reset by any number of places along the qld coast. There is no harm in sitting Ang beside you when running at speed and set your cargo midships and i think the three of you will get way more enjoyment from the experience. You guys did well for your first beach launce, believe me, ive seen salty veterans swamped and hammered in the small shore breaks as that's just about the trickiest place to launce any boat let alone an inflatable..

    I used to drive IRBs for the surf club. For a beach launch you need to launch bow first and both you and your crew need to be out of the boat. You walk the boat out until the motor can be safely started and you start the motor from outside the boat. Crew member keeps the nose of the boat pointing straight into the waves - you've seen what happens when it gets sideways. When you're happy to go, you get in and get yourself situated with the motor still in neutral. When you're happy to go, between sets, you tell the crew to get in and then you flick it into gear and proceed swiftly out through the breakers. Even with small waves like you encountered it's easy to lose control if the boat gets side-on to the wave. Anyway - I'm sure you'll both get it sussed in no time. Suggest you go watch the surf lifesavers launching an IRB if you want to see a well rehearsed drill. :)

    Chris, Iv been a skipper on my Rubberduks for for 32 years. Buy a piece of loose PVC tube material, cut the nrs out and glue them on with PVC glue. in flat water just before the breakers, on your way out, free the motor lock, put a piece of wood in between motor where it locks. and drive it out on the sand on the back of the wave. the motor wil lift up by itself. Lastly, paddle out when luanching

    Those were not easy conditions and not friendly waves! Definitely row out to slightly deeper water where the waves aren't breaking before dropping the motor and getting it started. You'll get there!

      We had checked the swell forecast which was good but the wind was definitely stronger than forecasted! Yes we have some really cool adventures coming up, we are excited to get the boat out more often now :) thanks for watching!

    The beach was nice and friendly, this was how I've been in a few "disasters", surf is the surf... that is what I've learned. As long as the boat is facing the waves through the front you are doing well.... You both with the paddles might have been a better approach... then in the gap you jump for the motor :) I'm glad you guys weren't flipped... Nice boat, take care!

    You'll get the best performance from an inflatable if it is fully inflated (per the sticker). Also, keep in mind that you may lose some pressure after it goes in the water depending on the water temperature.

    Hi guys, agree with the other comments that you probably had the passenger too far forward you will work that out with trial and error but what I found worked on our rib was passenger sitting inline with the seat and their legs infront of the seat looks like you have a hand hold in a good position for that than then the tiller person in a similar position but arse and legs behind the seat.
    As for the beach start nose out both in the water either side abeam or I front of the transom, this allows you to stand as shallow as possible and with two of you can hold the boat straight, Walk in deep enough to be able to drop the motor in with some trim on it but so the water pickups are covered (all the way down if possible subject to croc’s and conditions) once in that position start the engine and get it idling may need to throttle up a little to reduce chance of stalling if cold. Once it’s running chris position himself to hold the boat nose into the swell may need to be mid ship if their is decent waves whilst Ange gets in. Once Ange is in and positioned as mentioned above chris gets in when there is a lull in the swell put it in gear and get into deeper water drop the motor all the way down as soon as possible. Takes some practice. You will find that even with a good forecast a lot of places in Aus will be rough as soon as the sea breeze kicks in you will need to get going early and come back early unless you can navigate in the Lee of things.
    Hope that helps also best to practice with as little Gear in the boat as possible it all just makes it harder when it moves about in swell

    Good work guys. Chris you can also start the motor from outside the boat just standing on the side, you get a bit wet but atleast you can keep the bow facing into the waves until the motor is running then jump in!

    Hey Chris, put a inline fuel filter between the tank and engine before it hits the filter in the engine, looks good so far 👌also get some salt away or Desalt marine engine flush all purpose salt remover works great to keep everything like new cheers 🍻 👏

    Quick tip flush your motor while it's hot, helps flush the salt. Also turn it off before you hit the sand.. sucking up sandy water is good either, we all know how abrasive sand is. I was laughing when you launched but hey you learnt quick and no body is born with knowledge, you took it your stride well done... p.s the Mrs needs to help more with launching from the beach also, getting wet is better than capsizing

    Good you figured it out…as you were launching the boat for the first time, I was saying to the computer: “ You idiots.. wrong way “ lol. But you.     Important note if you nick/chip the propeller change it out as soon as possible or severe damage will happen to the bottom (foot). **Carry a spare prop**.

    Hi Chris. Very helpful. I bought the same set-up. 4m+20hp. I bought as well stainless steel propeller pitch 11. Got engine but not boat yet. I think you should try stainless steel propeller to check the final knt/h

      @@TheOutFit I bought customised version ISB catamaran 400×200cm from Europe. My is little bit bigger the width side. I needed for more space inside. I am regular fisherman. Yes, the stainless one is better for top speeding. Some say better aluminium cause it is cheaper and if it hits a rock etc. will not damage gears. Nevertheless i prefer stainless. As well as if very shallow you can unlock the trimming so if hits anything it will
      "jump" for a while and not causing damage inside the motor. If less than half meter I ll use pads for sure

      As about launching the boat etc. yes if from beach it is better from nose side if in marina it is ok from the transom side. As about shortness of engine compared with transom you can make changes on the transom. If very low you can put on top of transom a bracket to bring it. If very high you can lower the transom using sea wood ply from inside to make it more strength and stable at the exact point. Maybe you need 7-10cm to be lowered

    With a small boat like that one, carry the bare min. of weight(easier to launch in waves). And bulky items can trip you up when you have to move around.

      Also a small bag with small parts/tools in it can be stored in the engine bay, BE MINDFULL of moving parts and hot surfaces.

    The surf lifesavers have beach launching down to an art. They make it look way easier than it is for me :-)
    I used to spray a water displacement over everything. Under the hood, dripping with WD40, or similar was how I liked it.

    You've maybe learnt this by now I'm watching this video as a diver with a small inflatable rib I do beach entry's and when I put the boat in I'll walk the boat past where the waves are breaking first I don't know how much this beach slopes but if past the breakers you can stand in waist deep water I'd do that. I start the motor outside of the boat first and keep it in neutral I'll then get my partner to board the boat whilst I keep it stable then I'll jump in knock it into drive and get out from the surgery section then if I need to I'll put the boat back into neutral and reorganise the boat better in calm waters then punch out to islands and reef of my choosing

    But that PFD mate, seriously, if it inflates when you have it twisted up or half on half off you'll be in big trouble. Either put it on properly or throw it away.

But since then it has been much smoother, I hope for your wife too 😄 Yes we agree for the PFD, he just forgot to put it on properly the second attempt as he was in a rush.     Hi Chris. Drop in to a Surf Lifesaving Club and get them to show you how they launch and beach the IRB's. Different shape boat but fairly similar. If your doing a fair bit of beach launching in surf you might want to remove the motor tilt lock as well as it can bring you unstuck. SLS drills for driver and crew would be good to practice and also roll over drills especially righting the boat and getting the motor restarted. Balancing the gear and crew and driver is essential and making sure if gear moves its not going to injure you. Once your both skilled you'll be amazed what that little craft will do. Have fun but be safe. I'm sure any of the Queensland surf clubs would be more than happy to help you.

    Catching up on your videos now, I'm about 3 months behind. Not sure how that happened as I'm extremely interested in your adventures cos I'm about to setup a mog almost the same as you have. There is something else that's worth keeping on your boat. With your intended use, it's not if but when you clip reefs as you tool around islands and reefs. A spare prop, prop nut and split pin stored on the boat, just the one your intending to take off would do fine. All bigger boats do this, but it's worth doing for smaller boats too.
    PS. You can Gently dolly out the dents on props but if your not confident, most boatyards can do it, or know someone who can but at probably close to the cost of a replacement. RUclips it.

    You are probably a bit over all the advice you have been given but you really need to take heed. I've done a lot of blue water sailing and I can tell you one thing for sure: the ocean is totally unforgiving. Your boat is great but it's far too small for 20ks offshore. You can be caught out by weather changes and get into serious trouble. In the bush something goes wrong and you can stop, assess and take whatever action is necessary. In a boat if something goes wrong you are possibly in an immediate survival situation. Slow down, use the boat where it is designed to go and stop taking risks in the water.

If you aren't familiar with Rokkit Kit channel we strongly recommend you watch his videos, he's got the same boat as ours and has gone to plenty of offshores islands (way further than 20kms). The boat is more capable than it looks. We are also happy to report we have, since this video, made it to the islands and even have gone to further distance without any dramas.     As soon as you said wind was “20 something” I thought no way mate! 20kph is to windy for that sort of boat let alone 20 knots. And as for going 20 miles offshore not even on the calmest day. The forecast up on the reef are pretty useless tbh and whatever they forecast does even come with the message “speeds and wave height can vary by 40%”

      Also if you are stuck far out for long you may not have GPS anymore if batteries start dying - so have a compass.

    Chris, not bad for your first time out. No lecture here… The ocean 🌊 is obviously a much different environment that has to be treated with respect and knowledge. Now you’ve learned that windy and choppy conditions are not the safest, specially in a small craft. I live in Miami FL. and fish the edge of Gulfstream out 10 to 12 miles offshore in a 21ft. Chris craft center console boat (a small craft). 2ft to 4ft seas with 5 to 10 knots winds are good conditions for an enjoyable day out in our small craft, beyond that, think twice about going out.
    Water Safety; The FIRST thing we did before we set out on the water was to take a boating course offered by the US Coast Guard and learned a lot. I understand that the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard offers basic seamanship & small boat handling courses, maybe you’ve already taken their class, if not, please do it.
    SAFETY equipment; a vhf radio, flare gun and good life jackets are a must, I could go on but there are quite a few more comments from your subscribers with good constructive criticism for you guys to consider. Be safe and have fun 👍

    Boating is about knowledge, total personal responsibility and respect for the sea. Remember... it's a long swim home.
    Lucinda to Orpheus Is a long way in a boat designed for inshore, as an offshore boat gives you a higher level of safety along with a far higher chance of return.
    Inside the Palm Group the seas can be unrelenting for a rough and slow travel time.
    Thursday's and October to December always seemed the calmest time.
    Gain you're experience on calmer waters building confidence and knowledge to handle such a trip in your type of boat, as be far more injoyable for you and us.
    Prefer to see you injoying you're travels.

    When launching from the beach, always have the bow facing seaward, and unless the water is like glass, always have the passenger stay in the water to control its direction. You have two options for starting the motor; in the boat or out of the boat. Have a watch how the pros do it: ruclips.net/video/9lVbTsy2jsU/видео.html
    Note: the driver is on the port (wrong) side as that is the side patients are picked up from... things are done a bit differently when saving a life.
    My preference is to start out of the boat.
    When the passenger gets good, they can use the take-off of the boat to throw their legs into the boat.
    Oh, and get the weight further to the back for more speed... you only need a little weight in the front to assist steering. Unless you're punching trough waves, which I wouldn't advise with that design of boat, then it is the passengers job to stop the wave from flipping the boat. The passenger (aka crewman) positioning has a lot of impact on the control of the boat, and needs to be prepared to move around if there's any chop, swell or waves.
    Last little tip when landing... put all the weight at the back when coming in with any waves around, i.e., crew moves back... you don't want to risk the bow dipping in, and never want to be caught by a wave from behind.

      Chris will be able to take the boat on his own and continue filming after I give birth. Once our baby is old enough, we're hoping to do short day trips and later on overnighters :)

    Gidday mate, you have received some very good instruction below, read them carefully. 20km/h winds is way to much for you low boat as you have found out. becarefull not to bounce your lovely partner and baby out of the boat. When you launce from the shore get Ange to hold the front of the boat while you put motor on shallow drive setting. prime the fuel, make sure fuel tank breather is open start motor, Ange hopes in then you and away you go. I'm not sure 100% how far you will get on a tank of fuel but a 2 stoke is not as efficent as a 4 stroke, do a run and check fuel when its about 1/2 full turn and head home and check your distance on the gps before you just do 20km to an island oh and 20km back! you will love it. Remember SAFTEY First cheers.

      Going on the plane at max speed is something we got to do on our boat licence day. So it's good to practice as well with our own boat and the conditions/location where we did that test were ideal. Ange

    Surf launching not for sissies 🤣😂. You will need someone to hold the boat in the surf pointing into the waves dont launch without help. Ange cant do it inher condition. When you hit the beach on return you need to hit it at speed don't slow in surf zone you will get turned over.
