Wow, your truck looks a proper piece of kit, great colour scheme, stance and old school charm, no wonder you're all smiles, good to see.
All the best
Ian
Thank you Ian for such a nice comment! It was such an awesome day receiving our pop top and going for a nice drive :) thank you so much for watching every week!
That is a fast pop-up tent.
Sweet - does the heart good to see some South African product make its way onto the build!!!! The rig is is looking so good and I can see it it is a happy place with the smiles on your faces!!!!! Ooh - the Sugga build would be a nice series too - with some big wheels lol!!!
Congratulations on getting your Bunutop guys. The is a nice looking topper 🤌
Watching you guys unboxing the thing had me smiling 😃 from beginning to the end.
Chris, will it give you a bit more headroom in the cab area so you’re not ducking while driving?
Looking forward to helping you “virtually” install it all the way from Florida 🇺🇸
Regards
Lou
Are any of you from here (Sweden) 🇸🇪 or how did you ended up here? Thanks for the great content!
Ah this is a long story 😅 if you want to detailled story, watch one of the first build videos (buying a truck on the other side of the world sight unseen). Short story : no we are French & Kiwi who were living in Australia in a seld converted Unimog. We wanted to come to Europe and downsize and really like the TGBs :) thanks a lot for watching!
Fantastic episode, Skanda looks awesome on the track, the Bundu top looks to be a fantastic bit of kit, I would do minimal cutting of the mattress for ease of movement.
You are doing an awesome job
A beautiful 6x6 beast your probably going to have the best one in the world when shes finished 👍and yep the white on rims look great
Hello from Minnesota!!! Been watching the build progress, the pop-top looks awesome, can’t wait till you guys ship it over here to the States! Keep up the hard work.
Thank you so much for following along from Minnesota! Stay tunes for next week's episode, a lot happening ✂️
The Tgb is going to be great with that pop top roof! ....And I'm looking forward to follow your future Sugga-project!
Ahah don't encourage Chris 🤣 thank you so much for following along and taking the time to comment!
I have had a bundutop on my patrol for 6 years its the best nights sleep you will have:D Great in high winds and rain. When you first press the up button give it a few short bursts to help the excellent weather seal to part. Really excited for you guys
Oh that is so good to hear, thank you so much for sharing!
That Volvo car was AWESOME! If I was rich I’d have one for just tooling around in the woods. 👍
Wow!!!!!!! That truck is awesome!!!!!!! Great job!!!!! Looks like you can take it anywhere you want and come back with no issues
Rig is looking on point with the paint job and new wheels and tires, ready for offroading!
We are really happy with the transformation! We have just built the roof rack too at the front, it looks awesome :) thanks for watching!
Really cool how they designed it to have an awning going around it that expands by itself at the top is raised. Great engineering. Now I understand what you meant about you'd be sleeping "upstairs".
Yes it's a really clever design, we can't wait to test it in the field! Thanks for watching :)
wow that roof tent is amazing, cant wait to see it fitted to the truck. keep up the great work guys, and oakely is so cute in the videos
Thank you so much for following along! Stay tunes for next week's episode, it's a big one ✂️
When i was in the military duty i drove this tgb for 9 months. I remember that you always had to have your thumbs outside the steering wheel when going offroad otherwise there would be a risk the steering wheel could break your thumbs. Great episode! Greetings from Helsingborg - Sweden
And get som proper drivinggloves to save the skin in your hands!
There was no chance Chris could have broken his thumb on that dirt road. Thank you so much for watching and following along :)
@@TheOutFit All it takes is a rock or a minor hole, Speaking of 9 months of experince of that tgb.
Will you guys be adding some kind of mud guard. Reason for asking I saw that smallish puddle splash all the way onto the side mirror. Just wondering if you’ll add something to catch mud so it won’t splash up and in the windows possibly
@@rudeboy8628 we are discussing it at the moment. Probably will but not a priority right now.
🤯🤯🤯 holy moly, that top just blow my mind, I can’t wait to see how you guys plan on getting it integrated in the best possible way on your amazing Volvo.
Super cool upgrade 👍🤗
Thank you so much for such a nice comment, we really appreciate it! Hope you enjoy next week's episode, it's going to be a big one :)
Wow! The project is really coming together. The quality of the Bundutec looks really impressive. Can't wait for your first expedition!
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Quite a bit to do before the first proper expedition but we should be able to do a quick shakedown trip once we have the pop top secured :)
That tent looks awesome!!!
I’m glad you’re doing internal access if you’re in cold environments it wouldn’t be nice having to go outside to get into the “house” on the roof. Looking at it drive it really does look like a brick but it looks so cool especially the new colour. Great work guys and your little man is getting so big 😊
That tank would be good for Auckland traffic people would just get out of your way
Congratulations you guys! It looks incredible and sounds amazing. I love that it is still a good ol standard transmission.
Oakleys reaction to the new roof top tent was precious.
Just watched your latest video. The Volvo is an absolute BEAST. Love the stance of it with the big tyres and that poptop roof is out of this world. Nice job guys👍👍
Thank you so much Stephen for such a nice comment, it's really nice to hear :) hope you enjoy next week's episode too!
Can’t wait to see how you setup the roof tent.
Coming up next week 🙌📺
Excellent Bunutop. Never seen them up close but awesome. Great update and good to see bubs in the mix as well.
Make sure your solar panels have airflow underneath. They will last longer and generate more power.
Hybrid PVT panels would give them hot water and keep the PV component operating at it's optimum in full sun.
If they cork line the cabin roof they can cut noise and keep it cool and condensate free... They can paint over the surface if they want a colour.. 3- 5mm would do. So no headroom loss and it's safe.
With the bed, if it was me I would look to put the bed platform on struts, move it up during the day for headroom and down at night. Having the bed platform permanently down and a gap at the end I think end up getting on your nerves. It did ours with an old pop top on a Trakka Troopy and we converted it to the above. Game changer!
My jaw dropped when this thing raised up 💪🍾🏆👌🔥
It's really good gear, well built! Thank you so much for watching :)
Wow, that pop up just takes this thing to a whole new level
Seriously fun video tho! Love the tent, and the afternoon excursions! Can't wait to see the tent get mounted!
Super duper Roof top excelent choise👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Thank you so much for watching!
Its come so far. Awesome. Keen for the adventure videos to come
Thank you so much for the nice feedback, much appreciated!
Awesome thank you for sharing your story with us!
Thank you so much for following along!
You guys come along way 😃 Great work 👍
I’ve seen this brand during my travels in Australia. if you’re a keen camper with a rooftop, though expensive, it’s well worth the money. Because it’s a rectangle, there is plenty of space whereas other rooftops often have sloped roof or a diamond shape. Can’t believe they made one off for you. Incredible. It’s huge. Well done.
Love it! This is the mod I've been waiting on!
Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for next week's episode, it's going to be a big one ✂️
Wow this truck looks awesome with the new wheels and is going to be a beast! Can't wait to see the finished product! Glad to see you guys are so impressed with our South African off road products and good to see that our products goes so far overseas!
Keep up the good work!
By the way love the name and love the look of this tent, congrats !!!!
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment, much appreciated!
What an amazing pop top well done guys
Thank you so much Liz & Tell for following along and subscribing!
Hi guys, wow I think that tops for the bed is going to be wonderful. I finally subscribed to your channel and looking forward to more action. Your little one looks so happy. Keep up the good work Cliff from Australia.
great and beuatiful new video looking good
Thank you so much for watching Daniel!
@@TheOutFityour welcome
Oh my gosshh the suspense while you were opening 😅 can’t wait to see the outcome of the roof top. Oakley seems to approve 🤩 I like how the windshield pulls out, Ange enjoy your running and filming 💛💛💛
Seeing your whole family out in the countryside with the Volvo and enjoying it is so wonderful! Thank God, Sweden offered up a nice and beautiful, sunny day! You have come so far in your renovation and it will be exciting to follow the episodes with the new roof tent. Ahh... The Volvo TP 21, popularly known as "SUGGA"! (Sugga means a big pig sow) in case you didn't know! I would love to see you rebuild a Volvo TP 21 into a Paris - Dakar rally car! How incredibly cool it would be and maybe then let a professional racing driver drive it in the desert rally! Wishing you all the best in everything you do! Greetings from Rolf.
Thanks a lot Rolf! Very kind words. If we get enough support, maybe I can convince Ange that a Sugga should be the next build... 👍
Love to see you guys out driving
It gave us such a boost of motivation to do the roorf conversion and 72 hours later it was all done! Thank you so much for watching :)
Knew you could do it ,looks amazing, keen to see your other changes folks 🇦🇺👍
Thank you so much Eric! Next week's episode is going to be an exciting one ✂️
@@TheOutFit looking forward to it
We have been loving watching this conversion! We are in a Swiss Military truck over in the US.
Looking great !!!
I rebuilt a 51 Willy's Jeep CJ3A back in the late 80's. There's nothing that compares to driving a rig that you built! I loved seeing the smiles on your faces driving it around. In 2015 I bought an 86 F 250 and did a bit of mechanical restoration on it. It was so low geared that I could just let it idle going up hills covered in rocks. Rarely did I need to use the 4wd. I'm on the edge of my seat excited to see your adventures!
Congratulations on finally receiving the correct unit. Looks fantastic!
Thats very cool.
that car .ls the awesome
Thanks a lot, such a satisfying transformation :)
Trust me, when you go offroad with that one, its a beast! I have been with for things that I never thought was possible in early 90:th... I love that small truck, its a amzing thing to get forward in hard terain...! When you think its not possible, just go ahead....
Great to hear! We can't wait to start travelling :) thanks for watching!
THIS IS AMAZING. Wow, so seriously stoked for you guys.
Hi from Melbourne, Marcus here, I really enjoyed your Unimog build & adventures... Fortunatly I came on a little later so have been able to Binge watch from time to time..... You guys are doing a fantastic job & it has been nice to see you have had good support from Bjorn & family! What a bonus his help & developing friendship has been for you.... From sourcing the vehicle initially & the contacts you have been able to make via him.... I have also enjoyed Seeing True blue travellers & The Red FIre truck in the UK. they used an Alucab top on their Landrover) so might be helpful if you are looking for ideas about that access from inside & It is nice you have recognised each other with similar vehicles & I would really look forward to you guys getting together sometime... in some way & comparing notes & vehicles....... early days of course! But they are great & fun to watch too! It is great to see what you are doing I am really enjoying your offering......M
Thank you so much Marcus for watching and subscribing from Melbourne! It's very nice to read such nice feedback so thank you :) It would be awesome to meet John & Jess from TBT (and Big Red!) - hopefully we can make it happen!
Aww a short glimpse of the most beutiful jet fighter ever; J 35 Draken (dragon or kite, same word in swedish) by SAAB.
Chris was in paradise that day!
🤙🤙🤙🔧🛠️🔧Kool Popup Camper, Successful Outing too.😁😁🏁🏁🏁
Spontaneous thought! Split the mattress so you can have a 600X600 hatch, as well as a larger hatch maybe 1/3 the length, and a 1/3 again. That way you could have an access at nigh to the downstairs at night (smaller) and a larger hatch during the day, or put the three 1/3 mattress parts on top of each other, remove 2/3 of the base for more access if and when needed. Also you have the divide in the back of the Volvo, maybe that is the measure of the floor cut for the largest hole...??
another great video, you can already tell its going to be such a fun vechile with alot of character haha. a while back you talked about bringing more fitness back into your videos while you were doing your outtake couldnt help but noticing how great you guys are looking haha thought chris would of had the dad bod by now haha how are you guys manging with keeping up health fitness/diets with all the big changes going on? young child, living in a different country, big car build going on etc **sorry if this doesnt read correctly im not great at putting thoughts/questions into writing**
Magnifico, Grandioso, Congrat. der Paul aus Deutschland.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!
Such a cool truck! And I can't get over how snazzy those seats are! For the pop-up floor/access, I would leave the front part stationary, measure from the floor to the lowest part of the tent-ceiling, and cut the rear part of the floor in 2 pieces just shorter than that measurement (for clearance), hinging the 3 pieces together in the front and center, and using some sort of rail on the outside edges (heavy-duty drawer-slides?) so that it can just slide smoothly forward, raising up and giving standing height for the rear 2/3rds...
You could to something similar to the alucab top tent. Instead of one side pushing up, you would make both sides push up on a hinges.
The build is looking great. Well done.
It's obvious that you strive for a warm climate, that top will never stay alive in a cold climate like northern winter in Sweden.... But a cute top!
We probably would never go to North Sweden in winter with a toddler.
Awesome and outstanding content. Thanks for sharing and taking us along.
Totally loving the vids guys 😄. Really like the roof top tent concept. Can’t wait to see it finished. Quick question,,,,,, are you thinking of putting wheel arches of some kind??? I noticed the wheels will throw mud ad water all up the sides 😳
🍻 cheers 🍻
Mint!. ❤
First! Thank you for watching :)
Your wagon looks like an ICBM transporter, so cool. Mounting the roof and waterproofing it will be interesting, will it involve cutting a huge hole in the original roof.
you really need to do a collab with true blue travellers.
For sure! In which country should we meet?
@@TheOutFit isn't that up to them? you both travel but how about Spain? all five of you could do with some sun?
@@jaynedavies2757 why up to them? Spain seems like a good idea!
They have their own Draken fighter? Too cool! Edit: that tent top was awsome.
One thing to remeber, never have the tumbs inside the wheels when driving in terain, the wheel can hit you badly even break your finger! (related to yur comment that you do not have power stearing). This was a thing that all drivers in military was forced to learn.
36 tons on the T55 mate. But still a heavy beast.
Good video on channel nice see you out drone for he camper van thanks lee
Little one loved it was quiet in the back
He did so well! He grew up in the Mog so as soon as we hit the dirt road he fell asleep 😄
@@TheOutFitso did many conscripts during their military service, but when one crew woke up straddling a ditch at 70km/h they had to stay awake.... ;) nobody was hurt though and the sleepy driver kept it right side up! 😅
This is amazing! Congrats on the build so far! The Truck looks so big but they really are not. My C303 looks massive but it take up a small small space in a parking lot. For street steering keep you tires as high inflated as you can and they helps with steering. And I agree on the Sugga it is the best looking 4x4 sedan I have ever seen in photos at least. I had a small chance to buy one back in early 2000's and absolutely regret not getting it and now the prices are sky high! Cheers,
One way to set the back up could be to divide floor into three. The 1/3 over the back seat would be fixed, the other two 1/3s would stack onto the fixed one during day for standing room. The mattress at 2/3 size with a folding middle would stack on top of the other pieces. Also probablty only need to have 2 floor pieces with back third left open.
All that good cardboard to lay on in the garage! 😆
Perfect for oil leaks!
@TheOutFit I have an aircooled 911, tell me about oil leaks! 😆
What tank was that? A centurion adaptation? STRV K? Very cool - did not miss the SAAB jet casually sitting in the back yard...
Find mattresses and bedding that fits instead of splitting it into 3rds, that way you can have a regular bed instead of foam that makes you sweat. Making bedding each time is not good, so even if you have your sons bed side ways at the end and able to have a divider for personal space would be advisable.
This is a solid idea. Thank you 👍
I would keep the bed hole make it so it stores in the rooftop thay make all tips of bed lifting set up with a hatch to get in and out of when the bed is down keep up the great work truck is looking amazing
Chris might need to put in some alpine windows so he can see while driving or lower the driver’s seat 😝
It's when I have the windscreen folded open, the seam is right in my vision so I have to duck down. I need to lengthen the arms
Cuando me compre una la hoy hacer del mismo ejército de la naturaleza. Estoy aprendiendo. Buen paseo, hermoso día.
I think that you might appreciate a visit at “Arsenalen” in Strängnäs.
It is a museum for armour and military vehicles.
We'll add it to the list thank you for the tip!
You might be able to cut the floor into, say 4 sections and store them on their ends, so they'd only take up about 40cms. If you join those sections the right way, they could concertina up and slide back to one end. That would maximise the amount of standing space, I think.
I have follow you from beginning of this build, you both have done a excellent job so fare. That rooftop is huge how much does it weight. I have never drive TGB 13 but I been drive TGB 11 in the 1976 in military service and in the voluntary defense in the end of the 1970s and beginning of 1980s. Shall you change your motor to diesel.
Thank you so much for following along :) Now that we have cut the aluminium flooring of the tent it is quite light for such a big tent, we can pick it up by hand to move it!
Genial, ya esperamos para verlo colocado.
Take a look at the AluCab Canopy Camper and see if the way they provide access to the tent section could be something you could do. If you use gas struts, you could keep more of the floor of the tent but lift it up when you want head room.
This would work for a wedge style pop top but not so much with a vertical pop top. It would take too much of our internal space and headroom.
@@TheOutFitmaybe reenforce the bedbase when you cut it and use a winch system similar to Bundutec to lift the bedbase
@@4wdadventureoz stay tuned for next week's episode, it's all happened already 🙌
Goodmorning from greece happy family ! what a truck you are making......maby puting somme wing flairs because the dirt from these big tires will ruine the paint...
Thank you for tuning in Alexandros! We can't wait to explore Greece :)
Some wheel arch flares on the cards? Saw the mud flick up onto the mirrors on the dirt road.
Maybe, just not a priority at the moment :)
I love the Sugga! (It means mommy pig in Swedish FYI)
Edit: The new armored car is named Galten (It means daddy pig in Swedish FYI) 🙂
Haha that's awesome!
I just love it all 🤩
The total height when the rooftop is mounted , and estimated weight ?
Thank you so much! We address this question on next week's episode :)
Dude awesome, is there a way to mount your seat lower down? Looks like while u we’re driving struggled to see out of the windows (more so on the doors)
This project is awesome
A electric power steering pump off a volvo ! Just a thought which model not shore seen it done on utube
Gracias por los subtítulos en español 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻
De nada! Gracias por ver 🙏
Have a look at Eva zu beck she has a defender her roof tent the floor lifts up at the front so you can stand up in the Land Rover then pulls down for sleeping great build thanks for sharing
This would work for a wedge style pop top but not so much with a vertical pop top. It would take too much of our internal space and headroom. Thanks a lot for watching :)
I am trying to figure out how it all comes together with space to cook and sit and sleep etc. I don't think you will have the same levels of comfort as with Bowser though. He is still the ultimate overlander. Are you going to be putting in some serious insulation as well if you are planning on talking it to the USA or even staying where you are for the winter? Again Bowser has some pretty serious insulation if I recall correctly?
We are downsizing from Bowser which was our main goal. We love the Mog but we are convinced we would have had a hard time in Europe with it!
Yes the insulation isn't as good in the Volvo but we have the diesel heater and we can always do a few more mods if we end up travelling in very cold climate which at this stage we don't plan to on doing with a young toddler. Thanks for watching :)
Lovin the rock shirts 🤙
Good spotting!
Worlds biggest pop top.
With a 360 degrees view, we love it 🙌
Put a steering swivil handle on the steeringwheel.
Great looking truck and a hell of a lot of work you 3 have done a brilliant job. Have also been watching kerstanandmaxine build of their Oka truck made in AUST have a look i think u will be impressed
Thank you so much Terry for watching! :) Yes that brand new Oka is crazy, that company did a great job building it!
You should consider fitting a 3rd (high up) brake light, those rear lights don’t seem that big or bright for the size of the truck, so a 3rd light may stop someone rear ending you…..
In August Im in Sweden with my Suzuki Jimny. Can I come over and visit you? I would love to meet in person 😎
