Be careful taking off the back cover, I accidently pulled the electrical wire off the circuit board. Had to have a friend solder it back. Other than that this fix worked great. Saved a $4000.00+ TV from the garbage. And Sony WTF is wrong with you guys? Why would you design a great TV to crash over a few bulbs? TY Will's TV!

It may not work 100% of the time, but it's worth a shot. I just tried this on my friend's KDL-60W850B and it seemed to work great with the screen showing "No HDMI signal connected. I put the back on and powered it up, but after 60 seconds with a picture, it down and went back to 4 flashes again. Any other ideas?
Those in Sydney Australia - if you have proof of purchase . Call Sony and go down that channel, I was quoted $900+ by there repairs team who came out to look. I called Sony back and said it’s a common fault, I’m not paying for it. Tv panel was replaced free of charge, had all scratches and chips on screen also which was apart of the panel so WIN WIN WON 🥇
I’m just one person who knows very little about what component goes where or if the software has an issue, or even where to buy parts! So I’d say it might be easier (since Sony offered no help) to buy another TV. This time it definitely will NOT be a Sony. I only had it 2 years, rarely used it, and it quit. 😡 so mad.

@@VMC954 It worked for me for one month and had to replace the T-con board eventually. Another workaround is once TV works with hair dryer method don't turn it off, just turn off display from action menu when TV not in use.
I think my Sony XBR55HX950 TV is 5 blinking lights can this fix this issue the same way I replaced the T Con board and still not coming on just 5 blinking lights after the green, also my BBl _Error code is on the first row third down from the top unlike yours which is second row down one, which wire should I pull out?
Thanks, worked on 65X850B. Are there long term consequences of this bypass? Prior to this, I noticed that if i disconnect the cables from the main board to the TCON board, the TV would stay on. Couldn't pinpoint the issue, though.

What happens if BL-ERR is not grounded just disconnected? What if the other wire was grounded and not the one that was grounded? Sony KDL-40EX500 with 6 blinks. Tried an eBay backlight board, same problem. Disconnected the BL-ERR wire, same thing. Just wondering if it matters which wire is grounded and if the wrong one is grounded if that will cause damage.

@Wil's Tv Yeah I think you are correct. I've installed the latest Firmware via USB and now I can see the picture if I shine a flashlight on the screen which tells me the backlight has gone. I've also read somewhere that 1 single faulty led will be picked up by a sensor and shut the whole backlight down instead of just shutting off the faulty led. Do you know if there's a way to bypass that sensor that picks up the fault in the back light ?

After grounding BL_ERR from the controller (as shown) the TV works. Still has backlight issues that caused it to shut off; but atleast it runs.

If red led blinks 6 times..its LED backlight..replace backlight strips. Try...replacing backlight strips...Bec it is a Backlight LED Strip problem...one set backlight LED strips is about $20...difficulty is Average..careful removal and recording of all screws etc to replace exactly the same way is important...Also best to replace the whole set of LED strips..don't do onlybthe Spoilt ones...bec they work in synchronization...any small voltage difference can cause a shutdown.. Use youtube videos that show how to do it as a guide...takes about 2 hours to get to the strips..if untrained...make sure the TV is switched off ...for more than 24 hours...and press switch on when unpugged to discharge as muchbas possible....and don't touch the capacitor..HIGH VOLTAGE SHOCK danger!!!
This is not a genuine fix !!! This is literally just a botch it fix that will eventually blow the LED back light driver chip. All you are doing is literally bypassing the tv’s self diagnostics & error code program but as the bad LED is literally still there and not replaced the driver chip will be Working overtime to supply voltage to the bad LED to light it and with no error detection will keep upping the voltage until either the driver chip blows or the power supply gives up. The only real way to fix this is to strip the tv down, remove the screen and diffuser panels to get access to the LED array and replace the strip with bad led/s.

try this Clean any vents/slots in the TV cabinet Make sure there is room for air to circulate around the cabinet of the TV. Turn off the TV and unplug all devices connected to the TV Turn off the TV and disconnect all connected devices. With all devices disconnected, turn on the TV again and check whether the LED blinks. If it does not blink, the issue may be in the connected devices
blink error code can have quite a few different causes. Ranging from the T-con board to the panel and few things in between. If you have the original TV remote than try to see if this will work on your set: 1. In standby mode, press the following buttons on the Sony remote: DISPLAY....5....VOL(-)....TV POWER 2. On the left side are the blink codes. On the right hand side is the error count. 3. Under 005, you'll see three listings... TCON, HFR, and P-ID (panel). 4. Let us know what errors your set shows. If that does not work on your set, then you will have to remove the back of your TV and check the boards. Try to rule out/in the T-con board as faulty. Disconnect the LVDS cable to the T-CON board, the cable between the Main board and the T-CON board, and see if the error code will change. Let us know what the result is.

4 blink code means either the backlight inverter board is bad or one of the backlights in the LCD panel has failed. It can also be the LD board or main logic board, check inverter board wires for arcing to ground
Got this same problem on my XBR-55A1E, TV shuts off after a few seconds and I get 4 blinking red light flashes over and over. I've tried the procedure to unplug it and hold the power + volume down and turn it on until I saw the green light and doing the factory reset but still nothing. After that it would just shut off again and again. Also tried to do the Firmware update manually but it was unsuccessful. I got some more chance to fix with this video ruclips.net/video/TSgqb_7HO9I/видео.html but haven't tried yet... It looks similar fix as Wil's video. Any thoughts let me know. Thanks!!
yeah it coz by bad led backlight.unless you want to dis assemble the whole tv glass and buy the replacement it will be good.for now this is kinda easy fix if you dont want to do the whole repair of the tv.
@g a Thanks for your reply. It started getting some two or three vertical lines (no big issue) and after few weeks it started to shut down with the 4 times red light blinking. Sometimes the TV keeps working for a while but most of the time it shuts down itself.
Ernesto M, I am in the same boat as you with the 65-inch version of your TV. I saw another video with the same fix (search big dog) for the previous Sony OLED generation, so there must be a similar fix for the second generation OLEDs. Unfortunately, the PC boards are no longer labeled with the pin out legends. I am slowly working through pulling out each wire to identify the BRR_err??? wire....pita

8 Times Blink - For certain models, a special reset procedure is needed if the Red LED on the front of the TV is blinking 8 times and then repeats.

Used hair dryer for 5-10 minutes to blow hot air in vents on back panel and tv started normally without 5 times red light blinking

You must ground the bl err wire. it needs a signal.

I just solder it.the tape it with electrical tape.nothing special about it.very simple.
Would this work for a KDL-75W850C model? Mine turns on shows the Sony sign for a few seconds then cuts off and goes to the 6 blink
it might need a reset.try searching how to reset the model of your tv.

Look closely on the board.you will find something like Bl_Err.and its close by the wiring connector with the marking of no.1 for your reference.

if you cut the wrong wire.find a xtra wire that you can connect them again.

4 blink code means either the backlight inverter board is bad or one of the backlights in the LCD panel has failed. It can also be the LD board or main logic board, check inverter board wires for arcing to ground

Got this same problem on my XBR-55A1E, TV shuts off after a few seconds and I get 4 blinking red light flashes over and over. I've tried the procedure to unplug it and hold the power + volume down and turn it on until I saw the green light and doing the factory reset but still nothing. After that it would just shut off again and again. Also tried to do the Firmware update manually but it was unsuccessful. I got some more chance to fix with this video ruclips.net/video/TSgqb_7HO9I/видео.html but haven't tried yet...
It looks similar fix as Wil's video. Any thoughts let me know. Thanks!!
yeah it coz by bad led backlight.unless you want to dis assemble the whole tv glass and buy the replacement it will be good.for now this is kinda easy fix if you dont want to do the whole repair of the tv.

@g a Thanks for your reply. It started getting some two or three vertical lines (no big issue) and after few weeks it started to shut down with the 4 times red light blinking. Sometimes the TV keeps working for a while but most of the time it shuts down itself.
Ernesto M, I am in the same boat as you with the 65-inch version of your TV. I saw another video with the same fix (search big dog) for the previous Sony OLED generation, so there must be a similar fix for the second generation OLEDs. Unfortunately, the PC boards are no longer labeled with the pin out legends. I am slowly working through pulling out each wire to identify the BRR_err??? wire....pita

find the wire with Bl_err connections.and then connect that to any screws on your tv.

locate the BL_Err line.then connect it to ground.

is just a temporary fix. because you have to replace the busted led inside. which is lot of work.
