Notes :
As a fan of new wave music, I was hooked on the Manchester scene (especially Factory bands). Happy Mondays are such a crazy band ! Here is a live show from their Europe tour in early 1990, before "Pills'N"Thrills" was recorded. The performance is great, as usual with the Shaun Ryder's gang. The live re-arrangement of the songs are great, a bit more synth-oriented than on their albums.
Line-up:
Shaun Ryder : vocals
Mark Day : guitar
Paul Davis : keyboards
Paul Ryder : bass
Gary Whelan : drums
Mark "Bez" Berry : dance & percussion
Muggs love this
Around this point, they were the greatest band on Earth. Absolutely phenomenal. Horse and Gaz's holding it down, Cow's guitar... PD being PD.... Then Shaun's lunacy on top of it all. Not to mention Bez.... Fucking peerless.
I am french.in 1991,i came in england.to Grimsby, stayed couple of years.i did meet a guy, Steven, and know hapPy MONDAY.THANK FOR ALWAYS
A
Always yea laa
Yea man

Like other have said, the sound quality is unreal. Lots of love for Paul Ryder - correct - but Mark Day is such an underrated guitarist. Never heard anyone quite like him. Thanks for posting.
The creative process started and ended with Horse. No Horse, no Happy Mondays as we knew them.
COOL MAYBE THEIR BEST LIVE RECORDED🍈🍇🍉
Best performance in France since Agincourt
"The night Engerland came back !"
@ Ben Nice.
Paul Ryders Bass Lines are incredible
Keppler Keppler too right my friend.
Amazing bass. Steady.
It's good to see the love for horse pre his untimely demise. I'm still down a Happy Mondays rabbit hole since he passed. Good place to be for a nearly 50 year old dad who can't let go of the past, when it comes to telling my kid that bands are better than RUclipsrs. No offence to any that read this.❤❤
Aye cos theyre basically all copied from old skool disco and dance anthems from 80s chicago
@@danielmccoll4201 but made their own surely. Name a band that sounds remotely like the Monday's?
Paul Ryder is a rhythm God man, I honestly say he's up there with the top bass players. Smoother than a well oiled engine.
Yeah his bass riffs are quite something to play ! If you have a bass, try them out ! ;-)
@@Blank_Frank I'm a guitarist, I've learnt to love this kinda bass, I play funky, but this is on another level man
@@Blank_Frank he sounds like The Brothers Johnson
RIP RYDER
Bye 😎 asf yeah
1never to forget
Amazing wor they say after a song yea
Paul's bass tone is top notch👌🏻
R.I.P Horse massively underrated bass player in a long time
Me put this in should listen 👂 music u never herd yea
Do this noise it mad ski
Top stuff this. I loved "Kuff Dam (at 31:30 mins) " and the early stuff. It had this demented scuzzy funk punk vibe that has never been recreated by any band since.
💯
Top reply, spot on.
The most interesting band of the last 40 years in my opinion

It's like Bobby Gillespie says in his book, like anyone with a brain has said, the Happy Mondays were completely original !
I love the Stone Roses, but you can tell who their influences are straight away.
The Mondays, I can hear bits of Can, Funkadelic, Stretch, acid house, but the way that they used those influences was mind blowing, totally original.
No 60's sound at all, which EVERY other 80's.indie band had.
Thank fuck for the Mondays.
No other band had the wonderfully scrambled brainwaves of Shaun Ryder.
The non musician who has been the most important musician since punk rock.
Tart tart is brilliant love it.
One of my ultimate favourites from the Mondays, the bassline is "beyond 9000"
Trippy as fuck !
I remember hearing them live on Radio One when I was on acid.
It was mind blowing.
I was only 17 !
I saw them at the Victoria Hall in Hanley on the Hallelujah tour.
The best gig I've ever seen.
Are you a Stokey? I'm from Newcastle Under Lyme, been the Victoria Hall many times!

Oh yes !
just discovered it and can't stop listening! my personal favourite is 'performance'
merci beaucoup !
Me too I discovered these guys by accident from a guy I met from Manchester I live over here in America I have been hooked ever since it sucks that I didn’t know about this band sooner
They did a great version of performance on a tony Wilson programme in 89. Also the osm birthday TV show that they did a couple of songs on. Mad Cyril and good version of wrote for luck
Oh my god I was there. Strange gig. Shaun with a glass of orange juice. Sitting on the edge of the stage. To much drugs during their gigs a few days before. There was no more than 100 people in the crowd. But great moment
yeah no wonder there was so few people there, french people never really quite understood the Mondays sadly
Exactly nobody in France understand the Manchester scene.
@@happymondays3904 We are very few indeed (converting my friends to the Mondays & 808 State, one at a time lmao), but if you leave the cult of Joy Division, The Smiths & Oasis aside; France never really bothered with the Manc music scene, total shame if you ask me...
There was some interest in the early/mid 90s when magazine Les Inrockuptibles was at the forefront but it died soon enough when Britpop came round... But then again, and speaking as a french myself, french people really have shit music tastes
Bonjour Frank was this the gig where the band fought with the bouncers. One of their Paris gigs ended up with the riot police attending.
@@TrevorFrancisWalksonWater I have no idea, sadly. I know for a fact that the Mondays came to Paris three times during their first lineup; once in a 1989 (supporting My Bloody Valentine); once in 1990 and another time in 1991 (for a Madchester night)
I singing this Muggs what u love it
I love Happy Mondays!
I love this song.
Double double good
I love this show 👏
Great upload
Wowza. Never heard this before. Thank you
I think that this version of "Rave On" is the best.
Cheers for posting this. You're a walking miracle. 🙂
Quality Monday’s
so good!
What a great set by my favourite band. Thanks for sharing
Perf quality! Thanks!
Love it..he sounds on form here
I seriously agree mark day should absolutely be a household name!!! Very under rated!!!
He's so humble though too. He came up with riffs as good as anyone
Mondays were unique band nothing like them since
Wow....totally new experience of the band.... fidelity off the charts. Thanks man!
best time off my life way back in 1989 till now ;0)

Let's people yea listen
🤯😭
Poor old PD really couldn't play the keyboards live, could he?
Both Paul and Gaz have said, when PD joined, it changed the way they played, and their sound, and they often wrote songs around bits he would come up with. I think drugs and also lack of drugs can effect a performance lol
Ra ra ra ra

Thank god 🙏
No
Mo wonder no words lol
rave not wave
U a no good for me ye a
New wave 🤣😂🤣😂 nonsense mate. Mondays and co were not new wave!
Well they mix up new wave sensibilities with krautrock, northern soul and funk... but "new wave" is kind of a big word for saying all that stuff if you know what I mean. Talking Heads are not very new wave with albums like "Remain In Light" but people always say they're new wave for instance. I guess the same applies here for me ;-)
@@Blank_Frank It was not new wave though. By Jove, you wouldn't last here in Salford calling our band new wave 🤬🤣😂🙌✌️
@@glenndouglas8822 well what do you call it yourself or your mates from Salford ?
@@Blank_Frank We called it baggy.
@@Blank_Frank The scene was called...Baggy/Rave 1988-1992. ✌️🙌
