@@CarlPottsprofileI can't believe he wasn't snapped up by other groups when he was out of the Mondays, although I think I know why. No doubt his name came up many times when a first class bass man was in need.
It's so interesting hearing these demos without Hannett's reverb soaked production. I always felt it took away from how good Mark Day was. It just sounds like mush on Bummed, you can't tell what he's playing.
Yeh it was too much, too trebly too but we all know what causes that on mixdown day !! Performance and Do It Better were top 10 singles given the right treatment, we should've seen them on TOTP a lot sooner than we did. Still, amazing band, total groove tied in to every tune.
Sounds like a synth version of a Bass. While Paul is playing underneath. He never was one for ANY fx. Crazy. Simple, effective. Pissed it was him that passed recently.

Literally the sound you had in your head as you walked around Manchester 88-89, it paints a picture of a city now lost.
Paul's bass always stands out on live performances. He was a first class bass player.
he really was never got the credit he deserved

This is great cheers for sharing it
The best compliment I can give the Mondays is if I had one go on a time machine I’d use it to go and see their maddest gig.
It's like a light switch goes on anytime I hear the older Mondays' stuff, Squirrel and Bummed outstanding - like nobody else
Sky and the family stone meets joy division

This is so much easier on the ears than the Bummed mixes.

Cracking band early on.
Is that an octivated bass on Wrote for Luck or a keyboard? It sounds really honky tonk, which is genius.
