- Apple is expected to release the Apple Watch X this fall to celebrate the product’s tenth anniversary. And it’s rumored to be the biggest Apple Watch update ever.
Starting with a brand new way to attach bands and straps. Instead of the previous sliding mechanism, Apple Watch X will feature a magnetic latch, strong enough to hold the band in place, but easy enough to remove with a firm tug.
So… my first thought with the magnetic strap is that people are going to be easily ripping them off peoples wrists in the subway….
Or getting detached easily during intensive activities and sports 😬
There will have to be some sort of mechanical/physical latch as well
I think it will be a magnetic mechanism with some kind of barb which will easily attach but needs to me mechanically loosen to Detach

if they make it magnetic then they need to do it so to detach you have to push and then pull one side of it
The magnetic bands are going to create too many problems….
Could harm someone with a pacemaker, or interfere with surrounding devices and objects.

Yeah thats what i thought. If some pins in normal watches aren't strong enought so the nato band got invented, a magnet won't do it.

Why not just grab their 2x the $ phone. Snatching a phone is way easier than snatching a watch. Plus everyone knows u can’t use or sell an Apple Watch.

I hope the magnetic latch is just a leak conspiration, as always. This would render the watch unusable for fitness tracking and health features, which is its main selling point.
Noone would wear a watch that is likely to fly off your hand, especially when stainless models cost so much
also 3rd party watch band makers are getting better with the current latch now the magnet is going to take even longer for them to catch up!
Maybe they’ll do something clever with the magnets
ngl i trust apple to make a product that won’t fall apart that easily… besides that, everything right now is unconfirmed and we simply don’t know how easily the new band (if it exists) could come off… i don’t think we have enough information rn to make accurate claims as to how the new band will function

@@lolmindgames680 It would take an absurd amount of space in the chassis, cut into the tiny screen, and look horrible because the camera would have to be super low resolution. I just don’t see how it’s worth it.

I just hope they add a Lidar sensor. Definitely use it all the time on whatever other devices it's currently on.

Unlike other people I am actually interested in a magnetic band, this is a great safety feature for people who wear their watch to work. People don’t think about how wearing a watch could get them seriously injured if it happened to get caught on something. The same thing goes for rings. I’m excited to upgrade from my series 6
I’ll just take that off your wrist next time I sit next to you on the subway. If there was a software option to switch between magnetic and slide would be nice although it might be impossible.

"Notify you if it detects hypertension"... But, what if I ALWAYS have hypertension!? Getting constant notifications about that seems like it would be VERY annoying!

if you have hypertension you should go to the doctor, if you get that notification all of the time it's reminding you that you should get checked up. idk how accurate it'll be though.

@@MatthewTheWanderer If your hypertension is under control with medication then you shouldn't get alerts with the watch. That feature is there (if it is coming to the new watch) to tell you when your blood pressure is too high. And chill out bro you'll raise your blood pressure... Haha

I think the magnetic latch is needed due to the new band patent (the one with the small battery cells.)
Magnetic band definitely will have some sort of manual release that has to pressed. Think about the Vision Pro band connection

My Ultra 2 is ready to be used for the coming 7 years atleast there will be no noticeable updates imo in the coming years for normal Apple Watches that would persuade me to upgrade, I’m not a phone of magnet bands as MagSafe is really strong for mobile phones but if you accidentally hit your phone it will come off the magnets and never in a million years are bands going to have stronger magnets then MagSafe, imagine doing cardio like running on a threadmill and all of a sudden you hit something with your watch bang its on the floor damaged!

I have no idea the needed to accurately check blood pressure on a wearable, but I think it’s a cool feature. My BP is usually fine, but have taken meds that increase it.
The only feature I need is a battery that lasts one week at least. Is it so difficult to make an Apple Watch that I don't have to recharge every day?
It'll have to get rid of most of its capabilities for third party apps and simplify its processor like other fitness trackers.
i don't see it as an issue tbh, i don't like sleeping with the watch on. so i just put it on its charging stand on my bedside table before i go to sleep. and before that i just use to put the charger in a place where i got changed or walk past in the morning while im getting ready. it's not really that hard if you put it in a strategic place

It would be nice if there was a mechanism similar to a sim ejector tool to remove the watch band. To me, a magnetic watch band can be stolen easily, detect during sports, as well as lose its force over time.

actual wrist blood pressure monitors aren’t that accurate anyway, if apple managed to get sys/dia readings from a watch that were even close to the proper arm ones it’d be a miracle lol. another reason they’re probably making it a trend over time thing is bc the poor accuracy they’d get w the bp readings would probably not get any fda approval, unlike the oximeter etc

The magnetic band really concerns me for activities like swimming for example… 1 dive and I’d worry the watch face ends up at the bottom of the lake with the band still around my wrist

They should add glucose monitoring and blood pressure monitoring capabilities in the watch. Plus a basic body temp monitor could be useful
I’ve been seeing these guesses online for weeks, and decided that I’m not interested in the straps that attach magnetically. So I went ahead and bought the Series 9, which is the best-developed model, understandably. And because I bought mine outside of the US, it has the Blood Oxygen feature. I’m very happy with the watch.
Honestly the AI features can be exciting since it’s rumored iOS 18 will have an overhaul with AI… so if it can bring that stuff to the watch… I envision a watch version of the “humane AI pin” but faster and actually good since it’s connected to your phone and we already know how it works.

I don’t think watchOS 11 can connect with iOS 16 since iPhone X can upgrade all the way from iOS 11 to only iOS 16. Sorry dude, not possible. watchOS can only connect to iOS 18 and above. Just letting you know you can’t do it unfortunately.

Honestly, what problems are you even having with your 7? I upgraded from a Series 3 and I love it. The Apple Watch seems like a pretty pointless product to upgrade super often.

The only 2 things cool are the longer battery life and thinner bezels
The next iPhone and Apple Watch releases are going to be tougher Apple. customers’ disappointment towards the almost no changes for the past 3 to 4 years are significantly increasing, which puts them into a position where they need a change or anything to attract the attention of the customers back
I love apple products or at least I used to, but now everything honestly sucks in comparison to the specs of other devices or the level of improvements that we would expect from a company as big as Apple. The Apple Watch battery is my everlasting complaint.

however, what I would suggest doing at the moment for trying to have the Apple Watch on for as long as possible is to have it charging while doing an activity that you wouldn’t usually wear the Apple Watch while doing it, for example: eating.
I wouldn’t wear my Apple Watch while eating, this allows for charging it during every meal, which helps a lot to reduce downtime. And also the fact that it doesn’t take long for it to charge for a decent amount.
But still, us finding bandage solutions about an issue they should be fixing is not something that I see as a suitable permanent solution

So many comments saying the same thing, presuming the straps will be secured ONLY by magnets! That wouldn’t be a sensible design. More likely the magnets align and attach the strap which has a mechanical clasp. You’d then press a button to release the strap. So very easy to attach, slightly harder to remove.
Can’t wait to get this later in the year. Or the Ultra 3. We’ll have to see. Trade in my Apple Watch Ultra

I switched from Apple Watch series 7 to a Garmin Vivoactive. I wish Apple would create a model that lasts 5+ days like the Garmin that has less functionality. Realistically I think there's a huge market of people like myself that value sleep tracking over all of the fancy features I don't use.
i lost 3 watches doing watersports 2 while wakeboarding 1 by surfing over the course of hundrets of hours if not more then a thousand. when they do the magnetic attachment i will lose one each hour :D

It is highly annoying that it gives only the trend of the blood pressure and the oxygen saturation, instead of the real values.
It looks like that the measuring points are affected by noise which need to be averaged, so the watch provide the trend and not the numbers. Maybe a future update could add some statistical autocorrelation which can filter the noise out?

I don't buy anything Apple, as I stand against the idea of a closed ecosystem, but such device would make me very nervous. I need to see the numbers, as I'm in a better position to evaluate them; I don't need the opinion of an Apple engineer about my readings...

Just like today you have to push a button down to slide the band off to the side, you’ll probably need to push a button down to tug the magnet off too

I have a series 8 and I already made my mind up about being my last smartwatch. I will use it until it breaks or something like that but the current prices are competing with entry level luxury watch brands that last a lifetime. I’m done with the AppleWatch. I understand if someone likes it or find it useful. But is not my case.

How can u use it for sleep watching with a one-day battery life? However competitors are forcing 1 month battery life. I have no tendency to buy a new apple product as an old user. Also the services in Turkiye are far away from reliability.

I think if it’s branded as X it’s entirely reasonable to call it X. I mean when it was released they were so inconsistent with their naming scheme, it wasn’t like the iPhone 8 was the 8th iPhone ever released.

Most people don’t understand it’s a Roman numeral and not the letter because prior to that Apple has never used Roman numerals in iPhone names before. You’re right that them skipping the iPhone 9 and also releasing the 8 at the same time didn’t help though lol

More efficient screen = better battery life. => Apple makes a thinner watch with smaller battery that maintains same battery as last models
One concern I haven’t seen people mention is that with a magnetic attachment, will it degrade overtime when people use it in water? Not to mention, a new watch attachment style will make all older bands completely obsolete.

Magnetic bands sounds like a bad idea, I kayak a lot and would not trust the band to hold if my arm dips in the water when I'm doing 5-7mph. I hope they have some sort of "sport band" that locks int something on the watch, even if is means more bulk.

Don't know how true this will be but if the magnetic band thing is than it'll be EASY more of a middle finger to the lot of us that spent a lot on them, specifically the non apple branded ones because no one would be crazy enough to spend more than necessary on just ONE of their bands. It'll be wise than that whole debacle about the change from the 8 pin to the lightning porymt in iPhone prior to the 15 lineup.
