Amazing drum... I know this is unrelated but its incredible that every time you test a new tuning, the way you test the sound is always the same, in every video. Its such an underrated feature of each one of your videos
I picked up my 7-piece Evetts set a couple of months ago, Tasmanian Blackwood with a blue fiddleback veneer. Absolutely love it. Steve really knows his stuff. I can definitely vouch for the quality of the drums and the hardware, they sound great, look great and just bring immense joy every time I sit behind the kit! I love the sound of Jarrah drums too, a friend bought a Brady kit years ago and I've never forgotten the first time I heard that 'bark' you mentioned in the sound. I ended up buying a 14x6.5" Sleishman snare (another Aussie), and it's an amazing drum - the only problem is the free-floating system makes it impossible to tune up as high as it's capable of going because it blows out the snare-side heads! But that was my main snare for over 10 years. Eventually I'll be adding a few more Evetts snare drums to my collection :)
I saw a review on an Evett’s kit on another channel and it was one of the best sounding kits I’ve ever heard. Love that you’re reviewing one of their great snares and y’all are doing a fantastic job on SLaD! I look forward to all of your weekly vid’s and have learned so much from them. Not only on the reviews but on the instructional / experimental side as well.
Love Jarrah snare drums. I have a Brady 14 x 5.5 Jarrah ply drum which I bought in the mid 1990s. It has amazing body and crack, perhaps more middle in tone and with just a little less of the overtones than the Evetts demo above, perhaps due to a slightly thicker shell (I think). However more recently I bought a Red Rock Drums Jarrah stave construction 14 x 4 piccolo, and it has a super nice crack to it with plenty of overtones and those higher frequencies really present. Jarrah is a great sounding timber. The Evetts 14 x 5.5 sounds awesome, I will be checking them out too.
Be sure to check out our feature with the Zikit system last week! There were Remo heads on that drum as well as our features with Dialtune and Drum Supply for the DIY snare.
I really like this drum alot.Man it sounds and looks great.Ive gotta check this company out more in depth. They remind me of the craftsmanship of What Brady use to do.
I wish Jarrah snares were more readily available in the US. I've wanted one ever since I found out that Jarrah snares were what was used on Two Princes by Spin Doctors and Love Shack by B-52's.
I own both of those drums! And they are amazing! I also own a lot of the Brady’s that Larry Mullens Jr. used on a lot of the U2 albums. They are all great! I use them often!
My Brady Jarrah ply kit is one I will never sell. And 3 Brady snares - Jarrah ply 5.5x14, Wandoo block 7x12, Spotted Gum 8x14 that will take your head off if you get too close.
My Brady 8x14 from the early 90’s is my favorite drums! It’s in like a highly figured burnt orange gloss color called Jarrah Burl. I’ll never sell it....it’s amazing!
I have an evetts 12 x 7 spotted gum and Brady jarrah block 14 x 5.5 and Brady jarrah ply 12 x 7. The evetts is ridic. Looked into getting a kit from them based on the snare sound I have. So good. Thanks
A super off topic question, but I guess you'd have an idea. I'm having trouble with my snare and I'm not pleased with its sound. It is a 80's Japan made Tama Superstar maple snare. It still has the original steel hoops. Definitely not die-cast hoops. I have plans to change the hoops and snare mechanism to more modern. Anyway.. it should handle blastbeats, metal and have enough articulation for rudiment solos. Any ideas what to do with the drum? I tend to have way too much post hum in the sound and not the nice body-bringing overtone.
Jarrah's a gorgeous wood which is unfortunately threated due to land clearing and construction. It's phenomenally strong. Hopefully it will be around for a long time to come. I have a 16x18 solid kick (just a hollowed out tree trunk really) and it sounds massive. Tuned up a little to really pull tone from it and it has a really cool open sub sine wave kinda vibe and burying the beater really makes it crack. Really interesting and versatile drum. One of my jarrah snares is almost pink too. They are really a mixed bag as far as what you will get from them in my experience. Also, the word "jarrah" has Nyungar origins and is pronounced like "jazz."
How dare you?! :-) I JUST got myself a classic Pearl Masters (MCT). snare and I love it. Then you demo a Jarrah snare from Evetts that sounded great! How many snare drums do I need? That aside, as always, great videos content and production.
Had em on the last Snare Spotlight as well two others because they were on the drum. Remo has never contacted about supporting our efforts with the channel while others have.
I like the sound, definitely more at the lower tuning as usual it seems but I think ill stick with metal snares. Until I win the lottery anyway. They do match your sticks though lol.
@@kevingray4385 ... the size/style. They also seem quite finiky. I borrowed a buddies snare and it had one on it. The handle kept popping out of position, disengaging the snares while playing. When I engage the snares, I want a 100% guarantee that I won't have to reach down and reengage while in the middle of a tune.

Thank you so much for that feedback! We work really hard to maintain that consistency so these videos can be as valuable as possible. -Ben

Great work as usual guys!

Thats one of the best sounding ones so far in my opinion... wow 👌🏻
We agree!
This thing sounds absolutely stunning...

Spin Doctors and Jarrah snares was the sound!
That snare sound was awesome! Didn't realize they were Jarrah drums. 🥁❤
@@johnrobinson8323 he used Brady Snares. 14x3 and a 14x5.5 on two princes
It was actually a 4.5x14, and 5.5x14 Jarrah ply on The Spin Doctors record. I now own the 4.5x14. And it’s amazing!
@@nairnodrums Actually,a 12x5.5 Brady,Forks has one right now but very pricey!
First time I´m seeing a Remo head in one of your videos. A brilliant video, as usual.

@@SoundsLikeADrum I´ve seen the Zikit video but haven´t noticed the heads used. Probably because of the weirdness of the product reviewed.
That snare sounded amazing. Loved its versatility. I believe Chad Smith used to use a Jarrah Wood snare made by Brady in the 90's.
Been wanting to trade one of my 4 Rosewood snares for one of these Evetts jarrah for a while! Thanks for this video!
Hi.
Kinda missed the impact dashes, great to see them back in the mix 😎👍
You’ll see them in our Snare Spotlights!

I would love to hear you demo your snares! A good 12" drum is on my shopping list
Sounds better to me then the Red Rock snare u reviewed!
ooooowwwwwhhhhh Shinny New Intro!!!!
Thanks! This has actually been our intro for Snare Spotlight features for the last year. 😉

I know it's " sounds like a drum" but how about a video on cymbals? Set up, cymbal sticking, cleaning, different felts etc. Thanks
We actually have a full series on cymbals! It's exclusive to Patreon members so visit the link in the description for details.

Can someone call the fire department because this drum is smoking hot

Spin Doctors surges in popularity because of Cody.
14x5.5 = The Golden ratio
Chunky drum!
I have to say you could play a garbage can and would sound great. By the way the drum sounds great and so do you.
Ha! You can only do so much. We’re grateful to have the opportunity to work with very talented craftsmen that make high quality instruments.
Ya had me until I saw the Trick throw-off. I don't know what it is, but I just don't care for those.
If you order a drum from Evetts I’m sure they’d be willing to consider other option for your if you ask...
What don't you like about the trick throw-offs?

Buys a drum from Evan's drum company. Puts a remo head on it.....
