Oh right. that even when Raimi relented to at best have it in the hypothetical Spider-Man 3 part 2, he had to rush it into 1 single film even though he said he hated Venom (which is ironic to say the least. one would think he could make venom work if he really tried.)
He couldn't be Venom anyway, because in the comics John Jameson is the much sillier Man-Wolf, who actually would have fit into these movies a lot better than Venom.
And Avi Arad was pushing very hard for a Venom movie too, as he admits that he only ever saw Venom as having any cinematic potential/value out of the Spider-man part of various rights packages from Marvel that existed after he took over Marvel after it went bankrupt.
Daniel Stephens Avi Arad is just a moron who’s obsessed with Venom. Venom’s own movie literally has Avi Arad written all over it. While I don’t think John Jameson could have been Venom, he is an astronaut so they could have made a cool storyline where he and his crew actually found the alien symbiote during a mission in space and brought it back to earth. Only then the symbiote found its way to Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker. That way they could have made more use of John Jameson’s character after Spider-Man 2 and what happened with him after Mary Jane left him at the wedding. Kinda like how it was told in the 90’s Animated Series. Instead of the symbiote just so happened to be landing on earth in a meteorite. This type of stuff they could have saved for Spider-Man 4 or something instead of pushing Venom in the third movie.
The chocolate cake scene is W/O A DOUBT the best scene in the movie. Peter’s at his low-point (MJ rejected him, Harry’s resentful towards him, Aunt May is mad at him for what happened and now he couldn’t save a “poor soul” in the burning building). This was the kind-hearted gesture Peter needed at that moment. Kinda like real-life, just when life’s got you at your lowest sometimes someone comes a long with a nice gesture that goes a long way.
No comment on the greatest cinematic scream ever? The one Peter makes when part of the building almost collapses on Mary Jane? *MY DISAPPOINTMENT IS IMMEASURABLE AND MY DAY IS RUINED.*
I'm with Doug and Rob on the opening titles for Spider-Man 2. What I love the most is that they got Alex Ross to do most of the illustrations and artwork. And it looks so good! I also love how Alex Ross didn't draw the Spider-Man mask eyes like the ones in the movie. It's traditional Spider-Man mask eyes. That mixed with the great Danny Elfman score is just amazing!! Also side note, I love Alfred Molina as Doc Ock!
the worst part about the Sam Raimi Trilogy is Peter and MJ. Each movie their relationship is "I want Mary Jane. Mary Jane Wants Me. I don't want Mary Jane anymore. Mary Jane moves on. I want Mary Jane"
True. That was the trilogy's biggest mistake. Going back to the first movie's narration where Peter says this story like any worth telling is all about a girl. That's wrong. The story should be about Peter. His wants and needs.
What makes it worse is that that the whole relationship is the main focus of all three films, especially the first two. Both openings are narrations of Peter talking about how much he loves MJ. His infatuation with her is also the reason why he’s bitten by the spider and why he goes to wrestling match where Uncle Ben would get shot after choosing to let the robber go. This all would be fine thematically but in execution it falls flat. The first two Spider-Man movies are love stories where the actually love story is the weakest part of both films
@@KadenQuinnAgain Yeah. It was so focused on that it overwrite his actual motivation. In the original comic, he wanted to get money to support May and Ben. In others, it's because he just wanted to get money. Either way, it seemed like Mary Jane was his motivation for everything at times.
I remember actually rooting for Peter to get together with Ursula. They were so cute together, and the chemistry between them was so much more natural. The Peter+MJ thing really doesn't work in any of the Raimi movies.
J Run talks movies The writing for NC has gotten pretty lazy in recent years imo. If you look at the NC videos from around late 2011 to early 2013, the jokes were actually really smart and had great pacing, ever since then it's just gotten lazier and lazier imo.
Spider-Cat, Spider-Cat, does whatever a Spider-Cat does, sleeps all day, stalks it's prey, licks itself, hunches down low, ready its claws, turn your back it'll attack, look out here comes the Spider-Cat.
It’s rare but every once in a while there is a sequel that is hyped up so perfectly and manages to not only reach that hype but surpass it. Spider-Man 2 The Dark Knight Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn The Bourne Ultimatum The Two Towers The Return of the King X-Men: Days of Future Past Avengers: Infinity War Avengers: Endgame Captain America: Winter Soldier Toy Story 2 All great sequels that we hold as the bar standard as to how to make a great installment to a series.
James Franco after Spiderman 3: "I'M RUINED." (Not really of course but to this day that movie was still pretty chaotic with its over-flowing with villain plots, his included).
13:17 Which is REALLY IRONIC when you remember that in the hypothethical Spider-Man 4, instead of making Felicia Hardy Black Cat, they wanted to make her "Vulturess". AND also mkaing John Jameson Venom would kinda make sense when you remember how i almost all adaptations starting the 90's cartoon, the writers most of the time never even try to introduce Venom "by adapting Secret Wars" so they just have it be discovered by an astronaut (said astronaut being jameson most of the time indirectly like in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon)
The third one had some good moments. People remember it as being total crap but there's the birth of the Sandman scene, where he's trying to grab the locket and the fight in the subway, which is pretty good. But then it takes a sharp down turn in quality after that. It was almost like an entirely different writer took over from that point.
Whats great about the arms is they were puppets. Not cgi. They were each controlled by a seperate puppetear and was, i think, the most expensive part of doc oct
A lot of what made me love this movie so much was actually the soundtrack. And it's a soundtrack I still love coming back to. "Someone to Die For" and "Hold On" as two off the top of my head still give me chills. *proceeds to go look up those tracks having just remembered loving them*
10:45 I get their point here, but I still think Aunt May's hero speech works. For one thing, Aunt May often speaks this way in the comics. It's not realistic dialogue, but it's not supposed to be - it's melodramatic, just like the rest of the movie. For another, I think after this scene we're supposed to be unsure of whether Aunt May suspects that Peter is Spider-Man. I'm not sure that more realistic dialogue would accomplish that.
Honestly I love Spider-Man 3 just as much as the other two. It has its flaws (which are pretty much all the studios fault) but it tells a good story and continues on the overlapping story of the trilogy. And has some of the most heart and tear jerking moments in a CBM. So I’m excited to see you guys watch it again next week. Also I just love this movie too. Best of the trilogy
0:43 🤣 Rob: It was perfect at the time! Doug: It was NOT perfect, it was never perfect! Rob: I'm not gonna say it was perfect, but... Doug: YOU JUST SAID IT WAS PERFECT!!!
Honestly, I didn't even remember the marriage sub plot existed until your review. I remember and love the movie and I have this whole time, but that whole part just specifically left my memory.
I think I read somewhere that Rami wanted J.J Jameson's son to be venom in the 3rd one and it would've been so much better since there would be a real reason for his hatred over Peter
I watched Spider-Man 3 in full a few years back, and honestly...yea it was still a mess, but I actually really enjoyed the angle they did with Peter and MJ's relationship....how it *wasn't* happily ever after; how it's more complicated than that. It was the ONE thing with the 3rd movie I could really get behind.
The beauty of this movie was it was an all around feel good film. My godson was 8 when I took him too see this in the theater. When Doc Oc turned evil, my godson looked at me and said, “ The man isn’t really bad. The machine has hurt his mind.” I know it sounds corny but the fact that he and I could share a “comic book “ movie and both enjoy it was very special to me.
For the opening credits, Doug, It’s the artist work of Alex Ross the Arnold Friberg and Norman Rockwell of a superhero comics. So yes, gorgeous artwork from him.
7:17 That legit happened to me once at a store. About 15 years ago or so when CDs were still a thing, I went out to the local Circuit City to buy my favorite band's new CD that was just released that day. As I was searching up and down the "New Releases" rack, I had finally spotted it and just as I was about to reach out for it, the guy next to me in the aisle snagged it up just before I could. And it happened to be the last one there. I was dumbstruck. Like, I couldn't believe that had just happened.
You know what.......the astronaut son being Venom sounds like a great idea.......why didn't they do that. And I know that the studio pushed to have Venom in the movie, but they could have changed it where the son was venom instead and it would have made way more sense
Most likely because this is filmed so he can take notes for what he wants to say in his review, as he has his iPad, so he just took that idea and used it in his review.
The artist who did the comics art is named Alex Ross. If you like his art you should buy a comic book called "Kingdom Come" sent in the DC Universe (Written by Mark Waid.)
You know, seeing these Spider-Man 2 opening credits, I wish more films would go back to kick-ass opening credits instead of 10 minute long 2 part closing credits.
J. Jonah Jameson’s son was also in The Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon (and he turned into a Space Werewolf because I think he got his necklace that turn him into a Space Werewolf I can’t remember it’s a long time I saw that cartoon, but I would say that’s a best Spider-Man Cartoon)
My favorite out-takes from Spider-Man 2 are Molina trying to gracefully sip a drink held by one of the (practical effect) tentacles. A _lot_ of takes went into that one shot.
This was the best of the Rami trilogy. There was one part that really bothered me though. When Peter calls MJ to tell her why he didn't make it to her play or he could've just told her after the play when he saw her outside, why didn't he just say "I'm sorry I missed it, but I was in an accident. I'm okay, but my bike was totaled and by the time I made it to the theater the show had started and they wouldn't let me in." He didn't have to be vague about it on the phone, his bike was wrecked and he could show it to her.
How ya doing?

I would love it if someone stole the newspaper just like Doug said and the next paper said crime up 76%😂
The reason the opening credits of the movie are beautiful it's because they were drawn by the great comic artist/writer Alex Ross
Alex Ross is the one who illustrated the opening for these movies. He’s known as one of Marvel’s best illustrators and cover artists
Oh man 6:40 had rolling laughing. " Aunt May" "What?!" "FUCK!" lol
6:36 WOW that is like word for word what is said in the review
Most likely because this is filmed so he can take notes for what he wants to say in his review, as he has his iPad, so he just took that idea and used it in his review.
Jordan Weber i know it’s just it’s so rare that they just show footage of a joke straight from here
Chaplin stretching and sleeping in the background is so precious
'Spiderman 4: Cake!' Why did we never get THIS movie?!
The artist who did the comics art is named Alex Ross. If you like his art you should buy a comic book called "Kingdom Come" sent in the DC Universe (Written by Mark Waid.)
10:19 I KNOW RIGHT!? God it's bizarre. How can you be incompetent and competent by accident at the same time...
Watching these First Viewings made me realize just how much of a gem Ursula is
8:40😂said the same thing as Doug bruh like yo you could at least shout out for help 😂just let him get jumped
15:40 - No, he's the Black Cat.
I they ever make a Spider-Man Noir movie, it need to be a good mix of mystery, and a heaping dose of horror.
You know, seeing these Spider-Man 2 opening credits, I wish more films would go back to kick-ass opening credits instead of 10 minute long 2 part closing credits.
7:21 That’s definitely a reference to Cosmonaut Variety Hour
10:53 adorable cat stretch
4:49 Why do I get the feeling this was Tommy Wiseau’s _exact reaction_ as he left the premier of The Room
I love how you guys are having such a good time!
Love your vids
Chaplin is always on Doug or Rob’s lap during these things! He’s just so darn cute! 😻
0:48 this is how i talk to my boss in my mind
My favorite out-takes from Spider-Man 2 are Molina trying to gracefully sip a drink held by one of the (practical effect) tentacles. A _lot_ of takes went into that one shot.
The intro is legendary I still get goosebumps watching it with the art and music. God!
This movie came out the same year I was born and I FUCKING LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Rob: it was perfect in that time
Doug: *IT WASN’T PERFECT THAT TIME!*
Rob: I don’t say it was perfect
Doug: *YOU JUST SAID THAT IT WAS PERFECT!*
"how is that old lizard anyway"
15:40 - No, he's _clearly_ Catman
My chihuahua sleeps in the same position as Chaplin does; on back, paws in the air, head curled to one side. xD
