  • Jenine Alexander likes to build tiny structures on wheels. And she loves to find her building materials in the dump or on craigslist.
    Her first handcrafted mobile home cost her just a couple thousand dollars. She only paid for the trailer and fasteners; the rest was salvaged. Her second tiny house on wheels she built with a business partner during the summer of 2010, using salvaged windows and doors.
    Her latest craigslist find- a $300 duel axel 18' foot boat trailer- became the foundation for her latest mobile, small shelter. With another $200 and a lot of searching, she found all of the framing lumber, Redwood tongue, groove siding, and salvaged doors and windows.

    I think using a boat trailer makes the shape of the house/work-space interesting. I like it! :)

    An old horse trailer could be adapted to make a small portable house/ office. It just shows that with a few handtools, anyone could make some sort of viable shelter - a claw hammer, saw and look for old wood with nails intact. Old pallets would do for this purpose. I think this woman is very talented and obviously she has skills most of us ought to learn, if only for survival.

    i just love these girls,[dont worry not a stalker],so glad to see another video of their building ideas.there design as you go ,artistic touch,give these little homes a individual personality that is rare nowadays.I have found that free previously used building supplies are just about endless once you start looking .i see free 12x50,60,70,foot moble homes all the time.some have added pichted roofs like a house.free campers,apliances widows,doors,furniture,computers,and even cars.some love the feeling of helping others. giving away stuff you would have to throw away cost nothing.if someone wants a home,and can put a little of their own work into it,it can be done with little money and some hope.I'm guessing these girls have inspired lots of people to go out and look for things they need but dont think they could get.most of all free does not necessarily mean junk or trash.

    4:59 That wire is a little scary. I would suggest drilling out collar tie with a 7/8" bit and using a Metal 3/8" KO Connector turned upside down. Look for them at the dump still attached to fixture boxes. This will allow the wire to be relatively secure and not rub against the metal and possibly short out. Looks amazing! Great job once again!

    I like the constructions for what they are ... but tell me, other than the price, what is so great about tiny homes? I don't believe it's natural for humans to live in a space as small as this.

  • @will000089
    @will000089 12 лет назад

    Just a thought but has anyone thought about putting two of these together like a double wide and have twice the space.? I know it defeats the whole purpose of a tiny home, but, what if you wanted more small space, can it be done? Will someone please try this? How about you guys? Thanks!

    Have you taken it on the road yet? What type of boat frame is it? How much weight can it haul with animals or humans in it? I am considering going this route but have a few questions.

    Applause for the use of recycled materials and the intention behind the build, but anything worth doing is worth doing well. Reglazing those windows would have been much simpler prior to installation, and points and glazing compound are pretty cheap. Why insulate the walls when you seemingly have no intention of insulating the roof? And take a little more time on those jigsaw cuts for the siding around the fenders.

    Yeah...not to sound rude, but we Carnis( like you call use in the US...), have those "trailers", but they are 12m long, 4m high, some of them comes with what we call "drawers", large parts of usually 1 to 2m large that comes out with hydrolics.
    Some of the most elaborate comes with and hydrolic system to add a 2nd floor and top a heigh of 7-8m..., and we have been doing this for the last 3 decades, so yeah, nothing really new here, its just a bit fancy, nothing original though.

    These things are minor by themselves, but they combine to give an impression of either limited skill or hasty construction that have me wondering where else you cut corners. If you are going to attempt to gain publicity as a builder of tiny houses then you should be aware that these things are going to matter to potential clients. Your second house was a much better effort.
