  • Have you ever wondered how it all began? How did an ordinary little engine called Ivor became so famous?
Well, let's find out. Oliver Postgate, his creator, will take us, in six black and white classics, to that top left-hand corner of Wales and tell us the story of that time, long ago, when Jones the Steam and all Ivor's friends, managed to get new pipes for him, and he was at last able to join the choir and become the famous engine that we know and love today.
And there are seven colour stories too, hilarious tales about how Ivor became a fire-engine, about how Mrs Porty saved the railway, where her goldfish lived, and how the dragons were kept red hot...

NOTE: This is the VHS version of the first six-episode season of Ivor The Engine, released in 1991. By that time (and prior to 2023) this was the only way to get these episodes, and you couldn't get the further twenty-six episodes from the following seasons. Nowadays you can get the 2023 DVD or Blu Ray box set and watch these episodes in high quality. This is uploaded for archival purposes and isn't meant to stop you from getting the DVD or Blu Ray box set, though it will cost you almost an arm and a leg if you do get it.

You mean Oliver Postgate? Well, he was the author of the Ivor The Engine stories, with Peter Firmin illustrating them, but you must remember that the first six episodes on this tape were broadcast before the colour episodes on the BBC. It does have a few colour episodes on the tape, but for the most part the first year of Ivor episodes based on the book The First Story are the main focus of the tape.
