Rough Shooting in Ireland - highlights from Sat 13th Jan 2024

A short clip of highlights (including poor shooting!) from a typical day rough shooting with my wonderful working English Springer Spaniel.
We hunted for just over an hour in the morning and about forty minutes in the afternoon.

1/2 & 3/4 chokes. Depending on the cover, in tight cover like woodland, 32g no.7 & no.6 and in open country the 2nd barrel is a (desperation) 36g no.5! Eley cartridges. I’m not blaming the kit for my poor shooting! While she’ll always tell me with her body language that she’s on a bird, unlike hunting with pointing dogs where you have a chance to prepare for a shot, with springers it’s all happening pretty fast; often faster than I can react!
