    Anyone else finds this music superior to the arcade version? Gameplay is still better on the arcade IMO.

    This shit is objectively amazing. It's got absolutely nothing to do with nostalgia or the novelty of the computer sounds - the music itself is incredible. Bands like Cut Copy would kill to write music like this.

      You should hear the Instant Remedy remix. It's a cool take on the title theme.

    • @pedrotimoteo329
      @pedrotimoteo329 7 лет назад +7

      They are indeed great, but only the title track is an original; the rest are covers (sounding actually better, IMO) of the arcade original's tunes.

    • @TamasKalman
      @TamasKalman 7 лет назад

      i fancy the original too. nothing beats the original. although i'm talking against myself as i'm working on a remake now... but it's more about sound engineering, keeping the original sounds and vibe, as they are perfect as they are.

    • @TamasKalman
      @TamasKalman 7 лет назад +1

      i can't be objective on this subject as i'm heavily biased since it's my favorite since decades... but good to hear a positive 'outside' perspective =)

  • @einokeino303
    @einokeino303  15 лет назад +6

    What you said is absolutely true, In most c64 games you had to choose between music and fx. In this one you could have both at the same time and all this with only three channels. Pretty amazing indeed.

  • @lankymaccrazyhair264
    @lankymaccrazyhair264 6 лет назад +14

    C64 music is awesome. This crud is way before my time (I was born in '01) but the C64's music was incredible. Heck, it had some pretty solid ports as well, even if said ports lacked some of the content of the original.

    • @talideon
      @talideon 4 года назад +2

      @@trioritydev The released version wasn't a "cut version", but a version developed separately from the original port, which had hit development issues, mainly centering around the performance of the sprite multiplexer. The released version used a variant on the engine developed for Katakis, with new gameplay code and assets, all knocked together in a couple of months. It's an achievement that they got as close to complete in the time they had.

    What was truely amazing about the C64 port was that they pulled the music off using only two channels (except the for the title music) and the third channel was used for in-game sound FX. They had to speed up the tempo a bit to "fill" the music a bit, but I reckon Ramiro did a brilliant job and gave the C64's port a very unique feel to it, retaining the arcade feel and excitement.

    c64 audio is mono by default and this is why I recorded these tunes in mono.
    The stereo option in Sidplay artificially separates channels in a sid track and assigns these to left and right audio channels (much like Amiga does naturally). This option is most useful if you wish to record samples from sid tracks for your own songs.
    I would imagine that one would require two separate sid chips to produce true stereo sounds on a c64.

    • @lordevyl8317
      @lordevyl8317 3 года назад

      Yeah, the only way you can technically have stereo sound on a C64, is if you have a second SID chip installed, but that's pretty much cheating, and most games don't usually use that anyway, most of the stuff you hear using dual sids is demoscene stuff.

    The most noteworthy track from Amiga version is the intro which is propably what you have. Hülsbeck composed both c64 and Amiga intro tunes, both are different and neither one was used in the original Arcade game.
