@freejaytea Dear Jeroen Tel ; THANKS FOR ALL THE GOOD MEMORIES! This is pure art at its BEST! What a great composition! Thanks a ton. I still remember the good old days of Commodore 64 and how this tune amazed me (and it still does)
@jeroen tel , you are a legend bro . This tune is best c64 tune . i bought this game in the end of 80's and when listen the music i stop playing the game and just dance :-)
Its a rare thing to immediately groove and vibe with a game soundtrack. The composer should feel incredibly proud of this work. Despite the limitations of the technology this is the result of unbridled passion.
I think one of the most masterful aspects of this track is at 2:49 when there is this major transition, and the classic C64 arpeggio takes on a carefully timed rhythm that adds a beat that aligns perfectly with the syncopated melody of most of the remainder of the song.
Yep! I'm 38 now, but when I first loaded up Myth and this tune exploded from my 12" CRT TV from my C64 in 1989/90, it blew my fucking mind! I still have a C64 set up to this day for retro gaming. Jeroen Tel, Martin Galway, Tim Follin and Steve Rowlands are absolute legends in the C64 music scene :)
I'm 44 years old, the legend playing while I'm waiting for the game to load while I'm adjusting the commodore 64 head still gives me goosebumps when I listen to it.😞
i remember first time i loaded this game on my c64... i was 13 years old in 1990!! imo this is one of the best c64 music ever. I use this as ringtone on my phone :)
Takes me back... So glad I was born in the late 70s and to grow up in the 80s with the c64 and later the amiga but c64 was with me for most of my childhood years and music like this and outrun and turbo out. Is all timeless
He brought up this game in his review of Conan games and said the music was amazing. Conan for the NES is a clone of Myth, but with less than stellar music.
I remember this song from my childhood, me and my best friend LOVED this song, didn't mind that it took like forever to load the game. The game was good to, but the song??? Still love it!
Back in these days. Most games you couldn even turn music off. So the music played a bigger role, annoying music meant you wouldn be playing very long. Today it seems that music is often times an afterthought. Back then music could easily be 50% of the game.
I remember I had a pretty neat metal cover of this in my mp3 folder back in the Day. Not sure who made it, maybe that band that did gianna Sisters and stuff like that? I remember it sounded in flames like
I was quite surprised, when I found out, that Jeroen Tel is only one year older than me. So he was very young, when composed this tune and the Iron Lord tune.
for some strange reason i could not complete this on the c64, when u get to the pyramids level really got stuck on it, but when it was re-release on the Amiga smash it like i was playing zelda very strange, might be to do some thing with the frame rate
Is there some version with drums/percussion added/mixed in? I know this doesnt have them because of hardware limitations, but it would be great if someone add them.
The font used for Myth looks exactly like the font used for Styx’s album The Grand Illusion. Search up a picture of it and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.
Filters. Sweet, sweet SID filters. Also, having a good ADSR envelope and not being stuck with a choice between square waves or white noise like its peers helped a tonne.
When I composed this tune I hardly had a clue how much impact it would have on the scene. Thanks for the upload cheetahman91! :-)
Yes, occasionally. :-)
Thanks man!
I wonder how difficult was to compose these themes with just 3 voices.
But those were great music times and wonderful tracks!!!
I loaded this game when it was new only to listen to this music too many times.

I'm only a little baby boy of 30 years old and I'm here because of an older friend of mine, but this is fantastic sound regardless!
This has been the ringtone on my phone for the last 2 years.
Honored ! 🙂
Jeroen Tel is a frikkin MASTER of the SID chip. Awesome compositions.
Thank you! :-)
wow.... the SID king is here! Thanks for the awesome music!! ;))

Imagine the kids that loaded this up the first time and heard this awesome shit.
Well i was that kid back in 1990 when my dad bought me C64 and this game on tape. Today 36 years old and still listening to this epic tune!

You only become a man/woman from a boy/girl after listening to these sweet tunes comrade
One of best C64 title music ever!, still in my head after all these years🎶🎧.
This is pure magic! Jeroen Tel, you belong in the composers' hall of fame!

Gives me goosebumps this. Great memories rushing back from the store aged 15. A classic that even now sounds modern. The step change is mind blowing.
This is like 7 songs in one and there all the best song ever
Holy crap this is amazing thank you Johntron!
Such a quality tune from my younger days. Excellent version! All of your compositions are top quality

Awesome! :-) I feel honored. I was 16/17 years old when I composed it, sir!
We could've played marbles together.
nooooooooooo, if we played a marbles you would not Had the Time to Write this masterpiece, aahahahaha!!!! seriously, thanks again for this song :)
Haha! xD
Jeroen Tel is a genius :)
It's always a bit confusing hearing the title theme, while the loader screen shows. What about the Loader music?
*Bows* at +Dan Warren.
0:31 reminds me of DOOM.
TheScoutPro I dont think DOOM was out at that time
Jim Kallimanis It wasn't. Thats just what i think of when I hear it.
@@2fingacriminal bruhh really nobody cares about that fact
Seriously why does people do this shit
There is something about the melodies that Jeroen came up with that just 'had something'. (And that something was bloody good!)
+Matt Finch : Thank you! I think I know what that "something" is. ;-)
@@JeroenTel Melody nowadays seems to take a back seat, which is a sad affair in my eyes. It was ALL about the 'tune' for me. :)
It comes and goes, Matt... it comes back gradually already. =)

Excellent C64 chiptune.
this is one of my all time favourite game intro's. thank you for posting this =)
JT's so good at composing original melodies, as well as understanding how to get the best out of the SID.
Thank you Jontron!
it truly was "history in the making"...
why jontron?
He brought up this game in his review of Conan games and said the music was amazing. Conan for the NES is a clone of Myth, but with less than stellar music.

You. Dirty. Jinx.
Maybe he jinxed it, but it'll always be 0 dislikes in our hearts.
Can someone explain to me how a song composed in 1985 on the c64 hardware is better than pretty much 90% of the music out there?
1989*
@@user-cp9id1mj8b because these synthesizers breed creativity
It's not. It's better than 99.9%
Limitation is creative fuel
Set it to 1.25 speed and it sounds epic
Yes it still sounds great but to hear this back in the 80s was magical we had future EBM under the hood of our 8bit beasts!
Masterpiece.
Tho whole track ist great especially the part 2:49 -3:03, i use that in a lopp as a ringtone. Thnx
Fantastic game. Fantastic music.
Great Piece Of Art!
I swear the must have put more effort into making this tune than they did the rest of the game! But hey it was c64 times whatcha gonna do!

It took me one long afternoon after school only, but many 1000's of hours to get good at composing Commodore 64 SID music.
I recorded this from c64 to the cassete tape back in 90s.
Great music !!!Love it
I LOVE C64
That's why most of the old gamers and nerd became metalheads!

Even in comparison to today's high tech world, this STILL sounds amazing.
You can take your fuckin' fully orchestrated soundtracks, we need more proper chiptunes in our game soundtracks, or at least fakebit.
Hallelujah?! Holy SHIT!!

Why does this sound so modern?

Thanks Jontron!
Anybody know if theres a way to get this on a midi file
Is this song in the public domain yet or is it still copyrighted
Still copyrighted, but the copyright holders don't bother enforcing it unless someone's attempting to profit from it, which is pretty fair.
