Couldn't agree more, I'm 45 and love playing old c46/amiga games and listening to music from both systems more than I like playing todays games on my gaming pc.
I have listened to C64 music on top of volcanoes in East Asia, just to make sure the magnificence of the C64 reaches the most unusual places. C64 forever.....there is not 1 day that passes without the C64 being part of it :)
I was ten years old when i heard this for the first time, i'm 41 old man now. Do you believe me if i tell you that i never heard anymore this music, until now, and all is like in my remembers, every sound, every note, everything ... I'm a composer and musician, i really think that this music (with others) pushed me to make music. Thank you for letting me listening it again ^^
1977? Like me ;) Search Gem'X title theme tune by Chris Huelsbeck. If you don't know the tune. Then check this out: ruclips.net/video/XNQvm-q__tQ/видео.html ;)
I know exactly where you are coming from...37 years old now....i still remember being at my cousins when i was 9 or 10...loading these games just to hear the music...The music has stayed with me since then, its part of me as stupid as that sounds...Every single note, i can still remember. Glad this music made you a composer :) Martin Galway and Olof Gustafsson...the music they created defines me as an adult...Puts a never ending smile on my face whenever i hear or think about this music x x
My God. Commodore 64 and these Ocean Loader tunes. Brings me back to my childhood and they make me forget every little trivial problem in my life. I feel like a goddamn child again. I love these tunes, there's nothing better in the world. Thank you for uploading these.
I'm 53 and I still play all my old games on my C-64. The music on this system inspired me to become a composer myself :) I especially love the music composed by Rob Hubbard.
I loved Arkanoid. And the music to Rambo was AWESOME... Summer Games 2, Paradroid, Track and Field.. so many games I loved Rescue on Fractalis and The Eidolon. Gunship, Wasteland (the disk version for C64 was brilliant) MULE.. Brilliant Goiung to grab C64 forever right now and get some classic gaming going, :)
I was 5 in 86....first introduced to a computer game 'rescue on fractalus' on c64.....been gaming ever since....i miss the days especially of mega drive, snes and above all.....playstation...1996 is when it REALLY took off for me to the point im still mentally stuck in the 90s and often maladaptive daydream of times back then...
It was such a joy to see a loading screen back then, and music! Spoilt. I still remember loading Manic Miner for almost half an hour before turbo loading, this loader brings back so many memories, that you. x
well alot of c64 music is influenced by Jean Michel Jarre, and they often just covered his songs for it, theres a video about how they kinda mix together, called sidelogie
+HΣSPΣRΛXΛ That isn't what I was getting at. It reminds me of the Imagine port of Yie-Ar Kung Fu precisely because the exact same piece of music is used. It is called the Ocean Loader and it was originally composed by Martin Galway - nothing to do with Jean-Michel Jarre at all.
Got to love the ocean loader 2 . Constant crashing and games that didn’t save but we kept playing them over and over . Best left to memories as c64 games are shite but great at time …. Playing them now would give me a headache 🤕
I'm honestly not bothered that I've just hit 50 years old, it was great being a kid in the 80s using computers like the C64 & later the Amiga, computer games were great back then, awesome gameplay & fantastic sound tracks.
come on peeps you're gonna make me cry any second now! I've just hit the big 5-O and I love this stuff more than ever - This stuff preempts things like trance (don't get me wrong the golden age of trance was about 1999 - 2001 ish and I love it!) but this stuff was 10 years ahead of it's time and I still listen to it now! - In the future when people talk about musicians/composers it wont just be Bach and Beethoven it will include Rob Hubbard & Martin Galway!
The music is kinda timed with the drawing of the graphics - slightly off at the beginning, but as it nears the end, it almost fits perfectly, the tempo changes as it reaches the end I think that was the intention originally, to have it start at the same time as the music, as each new line is drawn, the music slightly changes, to signal the new line, it is more or less in rhythm with the music throughout till the graphics are drawn in full, then bursts into the tune..
I like the loading sound of this computer...but i prefer the mantras of the bits of the spectrum loaders...I could identify the game only by the sound...AND kNOW WHEN THE LOADING FINISH FEW SECONDS BEFORE!! The king of the keyboard.
Very interesting to read that. i find there's something melancholy and distant about a lot of these tunes. Perhaps it was less so when the music was contemporary?
Martin Galway made the music. Peter Clarke did the second tune (Slap Fight) - I'm surprised by that actually. I don't remember Slap Fight having Clarke's loader.
Finish off with a Last Ninja remix or the Commando theme :) I've been the same the last week or so - I'd rather listen to this stuff than most of the crap we hear these days.
Hmmm...I have a thought, would it be possible to use four VIC II chips and let each one render one 160 x 100 multicolour screen, then link the four areas together. (VIC II chips 1 and 2 handle the top, while 3 and 4 handle the bottom)
great tracks on ocean, always used to turn volume right the way up when i was a kid then listen to my parents scream at me to turn it off lol........ what ever happenend to ocean??
Oh wait. If Arkanoid loaded to Ocean Loader 2 that makes it the first C64 tune I ever heard.. unless it was removed due to turbo loader? I really should dig that thing out of storage tho =)
How do they do that bit during the music where the loading screen is being drawn on the screen about 3-4 multicolour pixel lines at the time? And can it be recreated with 16 or 32 bit graphics with other computers/consoles?
You probably already know about it but just in case you don't check out the Reformation albums by the one & only Matt Gray, he's done just what you wanted & remastered loads of old C64 classics including his own Last Ninja 2 songs.
im 47 i love old computer music i loved it please take me back to the 80s
Paul Mallon Martin Galway is involved in an upcoming game called Star Citizen. That era will never die off :)
im working on a time machine. Ill let you knwo when its finished.
Simon0 you already did, see you tomorrow as planned :)
hahahahahaha, nice !!!

C64 forever.....there is not 1 day that passes without the C64 being part of it :)
Make sure it happens in Space X
Ocean Loader 2 is my favourite of them all - slightly more refined than #1 but not as overblown as 3,4 and 5. Galway rocks!
All the ocean loaders are epic.
And ocean loader n2 more
I was ten years old when i heard this for the first time, i'm 41 old man

60% of the music I listen to is SID or AMIGA.

I never get tired of these songs. They made those multiple minutes of waiting the game to load from tape well worth it. :)
Or more likely the reason to start the game was to see this loading intro and listen. The gaming was just the secondary.
This song is fantastic. I get chills when I listen to it today.
My God. Commodore 64 and these Ocean Loader tunes. Brings me back to my childhood and they make me forget every little trivial problem in my life. I feel like a goddamn child again.
I love these tunes, there's nothing better in the world. Thank you for uploading these.
This really was some of the most amazing music for the c64.. turrican was up there too.
I'm 53 and I still play all my old games on my C-64. The music on this system inspired me to become a composer myself :) I especially love the music composed by Rob Hubbard.
You knew something special was ahead when you heard these glorious chip tunes
Instantly back to my childhood, beautiful.
When I listened this music in the past I thought the future will be great. Sad is not
This is the first tune I heard from the 64. Changed my life.
Totally agree. The music on games is just not as exciting as this anymore!!
at least we don't have loading times of 30 minutes anymore. hahaha
I used to stop Combat School tape from loading to listen to Ocean Loader 3 playing on repeat. My go to C64 tune.
i used to load wizball just to listen to the loading theme same as this one then play a classic game on c64 thanks for uploaing added to fav's
Good times. Nice to see so many others with the same thoughts:)
This is the music that will always stay with me as it is/was so well written.
Listening with a tears in eyes. Thanks.
0:49 and I'm a little kid with massive, corded headphones in front of a flashing CRT. Burning all this into my brain forever.
I loved Arkanoid. And the music to Rambo was AWESOME... Summer Games 2, Paradroid, Track and Field.. so many games I loved Rescue on Fractalis and The Eidolon. This style of soundscape brings memories of Future Crew demos in the ’90s.
DAMN!! Took me long enough to figure out what I knew teh Ocean Loader music from! I played Arkanoid a lot as a kid. Cleared it a couple of times.
Oh the memories of sweet youth and the golden age of the C64...
this sounds better than some of the music being played at festivals this year ;-)
Wow, this brings the memories flooding back mainly of the game failing to load lol but also some good games. Those were the days.
A great tune, best loader music really, shame we don't get this epic tunes nowadays
I'm 36. As I was a child I loaded arkanoid sometimes just for listening to the music. A unforgettable time with my Commodore C64.
I was 5 in 86....first introduced to a computer game 'rescue on fractalus' on c64.....been gaming ever since....i miss the days especially of mega drive, snes and above all.....playstation...1996 is when it REALLY took off for me to the point im still mentally stuck in the 90s and often maladaptive daydream of times back then...

oh yes - I still remember - summer of 87 - what a great time it was !!!
hudshsoft wish i could go back to that tme
Always reminds me of the Imagine C64 port of Yie-Ar Kung Fu.
well alot of c64 music is influenced by Jean Michel Jarre, and they often just covered his songs for it, theres a video about how they kinda mix together, called sidelogie

Slap Fight is one of my favorite C64 games :)
I'm honestly not bothered that I've just hit 50 years old, it was great being a kid in the 80s using computers like the C64 & later the Amiga, computer games were great back then, awesome gameplay & fantastic sound tracks.
This song is fantastic!
I think i need my dose of Turrican after that :)
Bieng on a nostalgia trip while my wife is away, well i needed that LOL :)
Absolutely lovely. Took me back and made me not want to leave! Genius music.
Best loading tune and probably one of the best 8 bits compositions ever...
come on peeps you're gonna make me cry any second now! Someone just said 'head over heels'! Ive been trying to remember the name of that. Brilliant!
Wow ! I never heard that music from the slap fight loader, but i fell in love immediatly, especially the part at 5:05 is wonderfull !
The music is kinda timed with the drawing of the graphics - slightly off at the beginning, but as it nears the end, it almost fits perfectly, the tempo changes as it reaches the end

ocean loader 3 was supersonic!
3:57 is Ocean Loader 2
When 8-bit game music has more soul than modern pop/rap
I like to think of this as the OFFICIAL(unofficial) theme of the C64
I like the loading sound of this computer...but i prefer the mantras of the bits of the spectrum loaders...I could identify the game only by the sound...AND kNOW WHEN THE LOADING FINISH FEW SECONDS BEFORE!! The king of the keyboard.
YEEEES! this is what I remember! I loooove this track. Thank you RUclips!
Listening to this in a Japanese garden, believe it or not. The epicness goes well.
wow !!! I was moved by this !!! Coool !
Very interesting to read that. i find there's something melancholy and distant about a lot of these tunes. Perhaps it was less so when the music was contemporary?
I hope Air sent a Martin Galway a cheque when they wrote _Sexy Boy_... 0:49
A masterpiece.
Ocean loading music was dazzling
Das war noch Sound und Grafik ❤
A tear.. 3
sometimes i just loaded up a game to hear this music. long live the commodore 64.
Love em always :)
SuperSonic Music , exceptional.
ocean makes the best music
Martin Galway made the music. Peter Clarke did the second tune (Slap Fight) - I'm surprised by that actually. I don't remember Slap Fight having Clarke's loader.
The loader of this arcade convervion for the CBM64 SLAP FIGHT made by TAITO
EPIC !!!!!
Ocean Loader 2 is effin epic!
Finish off with a Last Ninja remix or the Commando theme :)
I've been the same the last week or so - I'd rather listen to this stuff than most of the crap we hear these days.
Counter-melody and tons of changes. The evolution of progressive rock. Galway is God.
yah played with a huge orchestra and advanced computer techonology too. would be awesome!
@dimebolt1976 yeah head over heels was a true classic.
4:21 - sounds like Turrican Level 3.2 Did Huelsbeck get his idea from here?
Hmmm...I have a thought, would it be possible to use four VIC II chips and let each one render one 160 x 100 multicolour screen, then link the four areas together. (VIC II chips 1 and 2 handle the top, while 3 and 4 handle the bottom)
Air drumming right now :)
great tracks on ocean, always used to turn volume right the way up when i was a kid then listen to my parents scream at me to turn it off lol........ what ever happenend to ocean??
Wish there was a midi of this beauty.. only find mp3 and MOD
Sinfour it's a sid
Hi guys I agree with you.
This song is the best song of all times!!
gReaT ! 👍🏼
There's a bit in loader 3 that falls out of sync and it's bothered me since 1987.
For me the best music of load which is on commodore 64
man some of that art kicks ass, reminds me of ACID's ansi productions
anyone know who made it??? or like where to find more
Galway's a legend.
Oh wait. If Arkanoid loaded to Ocean Loader 2 that makes it the first C64 tune I ever heard.. unless it was removed due to turbo loader? I really should dig that thing out of storage tho =)
best times
Eeeeeeeeepic

I'd love to hear these tunes brought up to date.
You probably already know about it but just in case you don't check out the Reformation albums by the one & only Matt Gray, he's done just what you wanted & remastered loads of old C64 classics including his own Last Ninja 2 songs.
Ocean was acquired by Infogrames / Atari.
Imagine.
The Name.
Of The Game.
Legendary stuff!!
unfortunately it looks like time flows only forwards! its the rule of existence (as far as i know)
@einokeino303 Ha! Ocean's still a bigger name than Infogrames UK :)
SICK AND FUCKIN RETROOOO! WOOT
this song sounds like if they can teach lasers to sing in the future !!!!
I wonder why exactly there are any thumbs down on this :/
Bought up by Infogrames
almost the same music from Green Beret..
de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_Software
Pretty confusing. Why Imagine games have Ocean loader music.
Imagine was bought by Ocean and they released arcade games for c64 under Imagine label until the late 80s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imagine_Software
