Great review, for those wondering why he didn't use a 12.0 ah or the big daddy 15.0 ah battery on the 1,800 ft lb fastener its because other RUclips channels testing has shown the 9.0 ah to be the most powerful. The 12.0 battery gets hot pretty quick trading discharge capacity for runtime compared to the 9.0 and the 15.0 is really only about runtime. Thanks for the video!
The 9ah battery performs the best because Dewalt used the Panasonic NCR21700A extreme high output cells. Each cell is capable of 20 amps peak, so the 9ah battery with 3 banks of cells can put out 60 amps at 20 volts, or 1200 watts. For him I'm sure it's because he's trying to show it on camera and it needs to be shown for more time than a "glance" and there's the issue of his finger in the way of the light. Having the light stay on makes his life easier while filming.

Ridgid has the new 8Ah EXP that is suppose to be the most powerful they make so hopefully it bring up the numbers a bit more. Again great video👍🏻
Great review! Curious if this channel or anyone has any average torque numbers fastening or breaking for each speed level. Trying to understand if this beast can be used effectively as a mid torque so I am not accidentally ripping or stripping bolts. I understand that there is the Precision Wrench control feature; however. I was curious what specific torque spec controls there are simply using the speed levels. I saw on video the RIDGID R86211 6 Mode that controlled torque and speed. That was a great design. Unfortunately as you know, it is no longer available at HD. Thus i am curious how well or not is the torque controllable on this Dewalt 900.
Man, I've been wondering the same thing for a while now. Almost to a point where it's getting frustrating watching these videos and no one, and I mean NO ONE tests each power level!! Why?? I don't get why none of these channels that accurately test the torque of each of these high-end tools wouldn't test the max torque of each power level?? Glad to see I'm not the only one that cares. Looks like we just need to do it ourselves! Wanna start a channel together?! "ALL Levels Of Torque" or "Power Level 1-3 Torque Test Channel". Haha
You should never be in that situation. There is not too much reverse torque but for installing fasteners, you always let off far ahead of time and finish with a torque wrench or by hand. There is no way to expect impact blows from a tool like this, to average in on a specific torque, especially when it depends on the socket length, mass, extensions used, specific battery and state of charge, etc. SO, testing for that would be kind of irrelevant and highly situation specific, not really worth the bother. At the same time, if a reviewer runs out of things to do and wants to throw their time away (which is the opposite of most YT channels trying to maximize profits), then I elect you to do this testing and post videos. ;) Kidding aside, I would watch them, more data is more good.

@@Shoptoolreviews I figured that this was the true reason of high torque test wrenches delay. Just finding the bolts that won’t get destroyed at these torque levels must of been hard. The anvil on the tool has very minimal wear. The sockets take the brunt of these tests. Contrary to what most think, impact sockets are a much softer steel than chrome sockets or impact anvils. The square of the sockets will start to mushroom out.
@@Shoptoolreviews Contrary to what who thinks? Most of us understand quite well, that the point of impact sockets is that they be softer, not brittle and prone to shatter and take your eye out. At the same time, mushrooming out is a good example of why a 1/2" drive tool should not have this much torque. 3/4" and 1" sockets are built for this, is why they exist. This kind of tool is mostly catering to idiots who just think "more power" without understanding what is needed to go along with that.
@Stinky Cheese Jesus. You act like he was directing this towards you personally. I've heard many guys think the impacts are a harder steel and heavier to deliver the energy directly to the nut more effectively. Heard it more than once from actual "mechanics" and online people who aren't aware. Having the Option is always better than not having the option. I for one am stoked dewalt makes it, I prefer the 891, but happy this is in the world
@@Hustler_state Personally? No that is a fault in your ego that I don't share. No, in fact the impacts are supposed to be a softer steel so they don't shatter as easily, but have to have more metal to compensate but it is not about more mass to deliver the energy, on the contrary more mass causes more energy loss but it beats cracking.

The lights staying ON have always been a pet peeve for me, both on the batteries and on the end of the drills. So I guess its a preference thing. Great video tho~
Man Thank you! This is an investment and your video helped me tremendously! I’ve subscribed and will tell all my car buddies to do so as well!
What are your thoughts on this and the dcf891
it started to move in 1800! a few seconds more it would be break it away
Yes, it most certainly did move.
I suspect Tim's hands were getting hammered by the tool.
I have one, and damn is it rough!
Drill- Packedge in typical box, came with a tool bag (added bonus), two batteries, one charger, drill, and driver. Two words "plenty of Torque" ruclips.net/user/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv well I guess that's three. Nice upgrade from current setup. Has belt clips, I don't think I will be using those. Driver and drill were bigger than what I expected but it is an upgrade from the current setup. For the money I would say that this is a great setup for Professionals and DIY/Weekend warriors.
How long do you really need the battery light to stay on for??? Takes less than a second to read battery status 😅
This was a very nice demonstration. Wow!
I have this and I love it. Had to take off really rusted and rounded lug nuts off once. Got them off no problem the first try. Customer wanted to know how I did it because he already tried himself lol.
It's definitely a beast. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews absolutely. I subscribed.
I had to get one and it’s a total beast!
I remember a few years ago my brother and I trying to out do each other with our impacts being rated at 400 ft/lbs. I bought the DCF 891 mid torque and think I'm good for the foreseeable future.
im curious how the light not staying on is an inconvenience in any way. you literally need to glance at it for the amount of time your finger is on it. it's 1 bar, 2 bar or 3. you don't need to look at it for multiple seconds. confusing to me.
If you can not understand why then we can not help you any further my friend. 🤨
For him I'm sure it's because he's trying to show it on camera and it needs to be shown for more time than a "glance" and there's the issue of his finger in the way of the light. Having the light stay on makes his life easier while filming.
Great video, just what I needed to know, I'll go with the 3/8 for lighter weight and nearly the same power
Nice review, thank you!
WTH? I got my DCF900 with 5Ah batt., charger & bag just about a year ago for $299.... Lovin' it! These things are beasts! Effortlessly handled the blade bolts on my bushhog...ya know, those bolts that you CAN NOT undo by hand, even with a 6-foot pipe handle.
I JUST bought mine yesterday. 299.00 no case, just the gun. I went over to harbor freight and bought a Bauer tool bag, a full set of pittsburgh Impact sockets, and a universal. I got all that for 80 bucks. I think im gonna go back and buy some extensions just in case. Im an OTR truck driver so not using it all day every day. Its just peace of mind knowing i have it if i need it. We tried changing out my Nephews shocks on his truck and couldnt budge with wrenches.
Id like to know more about wrench mode.
I would like to see the kobalt xtr 1/2 re tested since you have bigger bolts an are able to test for higher torque now.
It’ll max out 1050 to 1100 ft lbs.
@@juanc5149 I think it'll be a little more then that cause the mid torque did 1000 but I'd like to know. I don't think it'll be as strong as the Dewalt but for half the price that would still be great.
@@TOPNOTCHLAWN
Ya. But in torque test channel. It only did 23 ft lbs more, best case scenario vs the dcf891. 643 ft lbs vs 620 ft lbs fastening.
So add 3 percent more to 1000 and I got 1050 to 1100 ft lbs.
I'M going to look into this tool. Thank you
What happen
Been waiting for this one
My DCB205 batteries show the charge like the power stack. Doesn’t just flicker like the ones in the video.
Honestly I couldn’t care less about how long the indicator lights stay on. Both get the job done just fine for me
It's never really bothered me, if I can press the button once I can hold the button down, it's not like you need to study it, there's three lights all you really need is a quick press anyways
Just bought one haven't tried it yet. The stack battery is better than flex volt.( Awesome ) I bought the kit with 1-5 AMP hour battery for 349.00 at lowes.
same kit was $200 at bomgaars
Great video. Would like to see the 1.7ah power stack. Definitely the 5ah power stack when it comes out.
We’ll definitely show the 5Ah power stack when we get it. Thanks for watching.
This is one of the very few i'm finding that comes with the dadgum battery and charger!
Can you use standard sockets with this or you really need deep impact socket ?
Always enjoyed your videos. Just curious though the DC f900 or the DCF 891 for working on cars and trucks. Which one do you think would be the best?
In my garage the 900 is only used on lug nuts, frame bolts, and crank bolts. It's a beast. It will get the job done but it's heavy.
This is was I was waiting for from the big yellow now I don’t have to look at that red brand 18v. Love the red 12v just didn’t wanna have to start over in red 18v
your tools all look brand spanking new? mine in a week look like they fell off a airplane?
having LED turn on for a moment while pressing is okay. Why do you need to have the LED for so long? either you're blind or a slow counter from ONE, TWO, or THREE leds?
What setting do you use for installing your lug nuts?
Does it hit harder then the high torque Ridgid
Just got one with dual xr 5ah batts and charger for $200 off fb market. Can't wait to crank something loose with it that otherwise would suck or stay stuck
What size socket is that ? Have you welded an adapter on it ?
1/2 drive impact sockets are available up to 58mm and 1 1/2”.
I love this tool. Have yet to be stopped by any bolt
I have a question, what model is the battery charger for 5ah? I had a regular battery charger but it’s not charging my 5ah 20v xr. Please help, thanks.
DCB115
How much is the tightening torque?
We definitely need a retest of the Milwaukee 2767 to see how close it can come to this tool
If it’s a new 2767 it will likely break.
We've tested that in the past, but we can test with the new 6.0 and 8.0 batteries.
Torque test channel tested this impact against snap on , matco and the Milwaukee 2767 ,
It beat the 2767 by over 200ftlbs , and beat the snap on an matco.
@@jdogdiesel7242wow, im glad i didnt listen to my family memebers, saying how much better the milwaukee was. I have ALL dewalt batt powered tools, and couldnt see paying 400 or 500 dollars ish for tool batts, and charger in milwaukee. For 1 tool, and MINE is stronger lol
The 1700 with the flex volt it almost looked like a slight puff of smoke at one point during that. It might have been steam but there was somthing smoke like for sure.
Dude that gun is insane
How did you been a socket to fit none of mine fit
Any 1/2" socket should fit on the anvil. It may be hard to push the socket one when the tool is new, but it loosens up a little over time.
Я правильно понял, что 891 будет достаточно для ремонта своей техники, МАЗ, трактор, погрузчик, легковые авто? Стоит ли иметь 900 или достаточно 891 ?
Will you be testing the rest of the High Torque's now that you have the appropriate Rig to max them out? Curious to know what Milwaukee and Ridgid High Torque's can produce with there most powerful batteries. Ridgid has the new 8Ah EXP that is suppose to be the most powerful they make so hopefully it bring up the numbers a bit more. Again great video👍🏻
We will definitely continue to test impact wrenches. Thanks for watching.
What a Monster..was moving on 1800😏😏
its on sale at lowes currently 319.00 with 1 5ah battery, charger and bag!
really nice inpact im looking into buying one..
Do you guys plan on reviewing the new XGT 3/4'' Makita impact wrench?
What socket brand would you recommend?
I need one DcF900 how much will I get it from you
If you don't mind me asking what kind of sockets do you use when you use the dewalt dcf 900?
Yes, the video is made for experienced mechanics, not for most DIYs. I’d also like to know the answer to your question.
Hammering it for 10 or more seconds, isnt it abusive to the impact? I know it is a big boy and can handle it. Just for longevity of the tool?
Hey shop tool reviews I know this out of your ballpark for testing tools but would you be willing to test the 12volt mplus impact wrench from Amazon
I don't think we're interested in testing that. Thanks for watching.
Is it better than milwaukee 1/2 impact 1500 ft.2767 20.
They tested the Milwaukee 1/2 inch against this Dewalt. And the Dewalt beat it by 200 ft/lbs.
$257.99 at walmark. It was one of the few i'm seeing that includes battery and charger. Not so compact as i'd like bc i'm not exactly a 'real man' :) still, for the money, go for it?
best review video
I would like you to try these two models of Milwaukee2767-20 Milwaukee 2864-20 Milwaukee 2867-20 and Milwaukee 2869-20
Nice. Dewalt really isn't f--king around with this thing. Odd question, but what is the purpose of the o-ring wrapped around the socket at 9:24?
It's a weird way to hold a socket onto a gun, a pin goes through the socket and anvil. Then the o-ring stops the pin from falling out.
@michael_derkacz Pin and O-ring. It’s really not a weird way to retain a socket. This is pretty typical in larger diesel and heavy equipment work. Thanks for watching.
@@ShoptoolreviewsYou’re right it’s normal for bigger sizes. I think ‘unique’ is more the meaning i was going for. Awesome vid ✌️
@@michaelderkacz5526 also for bridge workers and stuff or anything up high. Cant take a chance of dropping sockets jus for safety reasons of other ppl around and of course jusbthe inconvenience of having to go back down for it
@@Shoptoolreviews Nice. I didn't think of that. Thanks
Damm that thing is a BEAST!
THANK YOU!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Can you make a video on how to make that bolt rig and cost to do it?
That's been a continually expanding project with thousands of dollars (literally) and days and days of work.
@@Shoptoolreviews
I figured that this was the true reason of high torque test wrenches delay.
Just finding the bolts that won’t get destroyed at these torque levels must of been hard.
Although I have a sneaky suspicion that your hy torq precision torque fasteners make a significant chunk of the cost.
I don't get the deal with the battery level button. so you hold the button for one, maybe two seconds to see the charge level.... I really don't care if it stays on or not.
Is there a protective boot for it?
Boots for the 899 fit it
@@puterg0d Can’t find website selling in the US.
Nice. Thanks.

Nice impact wrench cool video
Beast
No doubt about that. Thanks for watching.
Finally something that can take the lugnuts off my trabant 601.
It’s a beast, that’s for sure.
Damn dewalt really has me watching them. I'm milwaukee
Even with a slew of Dewalt batteries, I chose the Hercules at 2100 ft-lbs with battery and charger for less than the Dewalt tool, alone.
Also Tim, we’re curious to see how that half inch drive looks like after all that punishment!
@Stinky Cheese your pretty slow aren't ya? I understand how it works. Not much ego in that. You are just one of those guys who feels like people are attacking him at all times for some reason and feel thr need to explain things. Stop. I know how it works, alot of others do as well, but also some don't. But that doesn't mean this video was talking directly to you. Here's an idea. Just watch the videos and have fun. Or don't.. but stop with the lame comments.
I just got mine fb market place whole kit for 260
Is this the guy from Johnny's reloading bench?
My only criticism is that the 5ah batteries can't put out any near the amperage that the 9ah battery with the new 21700A cells can. So, the fact that it performed this good with a battery not meant for this tool says a lot!
The 9ah battery performs the best because Dewalt used the Panasonic NCR21700A extreme high output cells. Each cell is capable of 20 amps peak, so the 9ah battery with 3 banks of cells can put out 60 amps at 20 volts, or 1200 watts. The 5ah battery uses Samsung 25r cells that also put out 20 amps peak, but it only has 2 banks of cells for a maximum discharge current of 800 watts. The new 15ah battery can theoretically put out 2400 watts, but given this impact isn't a 60v tool, it probably wouldn't benefit from the extra capability.
1800? Damn that’s some torque, it would’ve overcome that given a little more time.
I love my dcf900
Why don’t we just use that other machine you were using to tighten the lug? It seems like a powerful one. 😊
I was thinking the same thing that one should be all you need for everything
As soon as you mentioned the instructions I went for the fast forward, then just in the nick of time you said "just kidding" lol
I'm impressed at the Hytorc machine tho, that thing costs over 2 thousands dollars..
1800 was definitely moving
