Dir en Grey is one of the best bands of all time IMO. This album is their best work by far. Granted, they've had a ton of styles, but god damn it's so good. Fucking 11/10.
I think Uroboros was much more varied. This new album is VERY much more random. Yet the songs are much more similar (apart from track 13 which is a ballad style). This new album is much more polished in it's production than Uroboros. It sounds modern, where Uroboros sounded like it was recorded in the 70's (which really works). There are not as many 'catchy' pieces, and the guitars are tuned WAAY lower. First listen I was like 'oh no, what have they done?" But after 2nd 3rd and 4th listen... :)
Certainly the coolest Dir En Grey album. My favorite by them. I have been subscribed to CoverKillerNation for a few years, but I did not know he reviewed this one! Wicked!
Good review as always. I really like Dir En Grey. I mean come on, who wouldn't like a band that has a music video such as Obscure in their catalog? If you don't know what that is, check it out, try to find the true uncut version if you can.
It's refreshing having a band that has chosen to create much heavier music rather than the opposite route many bands seem to go down. This album is awesome although I do prefer the sound of Uroboros. You should check out the Japanese Power Metal band Galneryus. They've just released a self cover album and have another on the way.
Very good review. I liked the metaphors used. Earned a subscriber here. While I liked Dum Spiro Spero, my favorite album by them is Withering To Death. Keep up the great work man.
totally agree with your review and respects for searching for music from different languages. this is my favorite dir en grey album, their new ep "the unraveling" is ok, but a bit boring in my OP
my fav dir en grey album :D
Iain Thornton Same here. I dig this one the most.

they jumped from like jrock fused jpop to like metalcore to sludge metal lmao

so glad you reviewed such a great band, probably my favorite. Was hoping to see you mention these guys!
So why exactly haven't you reviewed Arche yet.
he missed the INSULATED WORLD as well
Awesome review, man!
Sir, this was the best review about Dum Spiro Spero so far. Gotta love your comparison of DSS and DBZ haha. Subbed.
I think I should listen to them now since I am a huge of fan Asian music. I love when people experiment with their music.

Dir en Grey is the best Boyband from Japan, and I mean that both as a good and a bad thing.
They aren't a fucking boy band. They know how to play instruments and there's one singer.
i stumbled across the video for "obscure" recently. interesting stuff.
fucking great review. this i havent heard most of the album but im buying it tomorrow. so far im in love with it more than i first was with uroboros

I am from Japan and will sub after seeing this video haha
their new maxi single comes out december 19th! you should review it!!!
they will remain as a "boyband" as long as Dynamite Tommy is keeping them inside his clutches

uroboros came out in 2008
just sayin
Great review, you have a fantastic way with words. The band gets much more hate than they deserve.
What are your thoughts on x Japan?
Boring.
@MetalTaavi
wait what?
j-rock vocals?
i'm guessing you're talking about the cleans?
@headphonegirl11 Dir en grey is not your typical asian boyband so you should stay away.
@Twiggyyay, I don't listen to Asian boybands. Most of them have horrible voices and generic pop songs...

Lolwut?
