- On this episode we go for a ride in JP's 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage. Making 880whp(1000+hp) this car is an absolute sleeper! The car has a ton of "character" with custom one off parts like a driveshaft made with Home Depot fence post, kustom guage/switch cluster in the dash, and many more little gems. JP also takes us for a trip down memory lane telling us about a previous Mirage project that he crashed while shooting for a 200mph run, luckily him and the passenger were ok but the footage provided by JP was pretty intense. Marty's car is being built to be a reliable-ish circuit car, not a drag car. Big laggy turbos are useless on most circuits as you lose too much time building boost exiting corners. There's another Mirage/Colt (hatch) on Boba Motoring's channel that's making more than this one too.....
why are you comparing a lancer to a mirage anyway?
the 2 door mirage/colt is sold as a Lancer in Australia. But it isn't really a lancer. I think almost everywhere else it's called a Mirage or a Colt.

Not sure of the validity of the story. But I heard the crash happened on 480 and the driver and passenger were both uninjured and they had the car in an enclosed trailer within minutes before the cops showed up. Now again I don't know for sure what actually happened this is just what I heard. I'm local to Norwalk (Cleveland)

Yeah for sure crazy ass shit. Looks like something had to break. He was straight ahead with the wheel and it just started to spin around. Didn’t seem like a tire blew so I’m with you prolly some fluid. damn i wrecced a oldsmobile Alero similarly (tire blew) but only at a 100 or so. we lived but flipped so many times couldn’t count. I walked away, damn near killed my partner though.

Looks like plain old lift off oversteer to me. The aero on that thing has to be generating a huge low pressure zone, and tremendous vortices above the rear trunk lid and therefore lift. Everyone remember all those fins on top of evo roofs toward the rear? Those are to straiten turbulent air, promote laminar flow and prevent what likely happened to this guy. As soon as he lifted while still in gear (drivetrain drag acting as breaks) and the rear came around slightly, it exposed a profile that more easily allowed the air to travel over the rear trunk lid (smaller effective surface area relative to all the air trapped and dragging while perfectly strait) and with the reduced force required to overcome the oncoming air, the car, now with polar momentum, took the path of least resistance and turned farther broadside. After that it probably just carried through with inertia into a spin.

This is exactly what happened. Didnt lift (the throttle) until it already came around
After a quarter speed review I noticed the speedo was a low refresh rate GPS only picking up 2 mph at a time (187-189-191-193) That's when it registered a 194 and held, indicating to me top speed had been achieved drag limited or otherwise. Its difficult to discern what upset the car, it could have even been a small dip in the road. I hope we find out with a follow up video.

Just saw this car in person today, holy shitttt.
Perfect example of skimping on things you probably shouldn't. Reminds me of kiddies which first start driving and up the power on stock breaks and suspension. Never going to end well.
I HAVE A 1995 MITSUBISHI MIRAGE COUPE JUST LIKE HIS AND LAST YEAR A STUPID BAD DRIVER IN A TRUCK HIT MY CAR AND MESSED UP COMPLETELY. THOSE CARS EVEN WITH THE 1.8 liter ENGINE FROM FACTORY THEY MOVE REALLY FAST. MY CAME FROM PUERTO RICO 🇵🇷 AND I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS IN PUERTO RICO THERE WAS A LOT OF THEM . THE CAR IS SUPER LITE. Not a sleeper with HUGE front mount hanging out the bumper alongside the turbo inlet and exhaust out the side. Obnoxiously large tacho and slicks dont help either. Props to the build it does haul ass!!

Holy shit, I remember seeing the crash years and years ago after it happened. I thought he was keeping it under wraps for legal reasons. but I guess it's been long enough to show it. Luckily no one died, especially the lady in the minivan.
