Another overblown American critique (why are these people so consistently overwhelmingly positive or negative?), yet still, Gert Van Hoef is fantastically skilled and I'd love it if he could organize a worldwide concert season. Unfortunately, the problem with classical pipe organ music is that it's of limited appeal to a world obsessed by ephemeral trivial people like the Kardashians. They make millions while people like Gert I would imagine would have to work extremely hard for every euro/dollar, and so it's sadly probably unrealistic to hope he could do a world-wide profitable tour. The only person who comes close to being able to do this is Cameron Carpenter who has adopted an over-the-top carnival act to go with this performances. He's successful, and an extremely skilled organist, but IMHO as annoying as hell with his diamond-encrusted everything, and his weird 'muscly' overexposed look which just looks kinda creepy. He should wear more clothing (less Liberace, more 'ordinary'), not less, and let his music speak for itself rather than turn every performance into a Liberace-inspired circus. But then again, if he wasn't channeling Liberace's bizarre and dated act, he probably wouldn't be as successful as he is.
My theory is that all those who vote thumbs down must be other organist who realize that they will never be able to play anything even close to the level of Gert.....and this is how they think they are elevating their own status. It should be obvious to anyone who listens that Gert has been given a very special gift.....it comes thru on everything he plays and he could stand on his head and play with his feet and still be way better than the jealous people who give the thumbs down...

Gert, my dad used to pump the organ at the local chapel when he was a boy, and if he didn't pump fast enough he would get punished. I wonder how he would keep up with you playing...... Gert van Hoef is an amazing, top-class organist. One very minor change to whoever translated the speech into English: Mrs. Daamen 'taught' you the basics (active), not 'learned' you (1:39) (passive) the basics. You are 'taught' by *someone* (direct), but you *learn* (indirect) *from* someone else. It's a difficult and subtle English-language way of speaking, and you often hear non-English speakers get it wrong, thinking the language's grammar is a bit simpler than it really is. Nevertheless the video is superb, and the translation remains clear - was für ein Talent is Gert van Hoef!
Oh my goodness. This is the first video I ever saw of Gert playing. I stumbled across it by mistake, and wanted to know who owned the long legs going up to the organ loft!!!!!! I was immediately hooked on this young man's 🎶 🎵. Nine years later I am a devoted fan and admirer. Gert, you are an inspiration to us all.

Beste Gert ik volg je al een aantal jaren en luister met veel plezier en (gezonde) jaloezie naar je orgelspel. Zelf opgegroeid met orgels en muziek, (mijn vader speelde en heeft altijd orgel gehad) heb zelf even les gehad maar ben zo als je dat zo zegt talentloos dus dat werd niks. Het luisteren blijft dus over en dat doe ik o.a. door naar je geweldige filmpjes,concerten en dvd te luisteren. Overigens wil ik die gene welke je vastleggen in geluid en beeld een compliment geven dank jullie wel !!
Toen ik klein was minachtte ik een kerkorgel. Niet mooi, saai, duf. Mede door dit soort video’s ontdek ik dat het eigenlijk één van de mooiste instrumenten heeft het en ook een geschiedenis die in zijn oorsprong heeft die los staat van het geloof. Ongelooflijk mooi!

Wonderful to listen and watch. Those boys who are helping, are they your brothers? They seem to know exactly what stops you want. Does that mean you practice this piece a lot, or is it kinda standard? I guess with your talent you can learn stuff very quickly. Probably many hours of practice though..
An unusual interview for the You Tube collection with a speaking part for Gert. He seems to bristle a bit before starting... some confusion about the selection. Jan gets him back on track but the dialog in the organ loft gets a little hard to follow. An impressive end result as usual......
