6/25/2024.....Early Settlers of Monroe County by Dr Curt Sylvester... Indiana Geneological Society.

Dr Curtis Sylvester, Immediate Past President of the Indiana Geneological Society gives a program titled "Early Settlers of Monroe County". Dr Sylvester reviews transition of property ownership from the Miami Tribe through treaties, land grants and purchases. He discusses the reasons that people moved to Monroe County. He also selects some families for a more detailed discussion. For these we learn of their countries of origin, the first person of that family to arrive in the American Colonies, the first person of that family to arrive in Indiana, and the first person of that family to arrive in Monroe County.There are lots of pictures, maps and certificates displayed. He encourages everyone to research their own ancestors and shows how to do that by using legal documents, census records, newspapers and DNA.
