Fun video to watch. Glad to hear that the final product lived up to the early hype. The more people enjoying Grateful Dead across the globe, the better off the world will be. ✌️
This will be the first Grateful Dead in my record collection. I couldn’t resist getting it after such an enthusiastic recommendation. It’s all your fault, Michael.
RIP Pigpen! RIP Jerry! I have so much live dead on vinyl that I passed on this in favor of the Bill Evans Boxset. I am honestly thinking I might need to grab this as well. What a beauty and a legendary era for the Dead.
I think Grateful Dead played very well together in teamwork. Will I ever seen this box in a second hand shop. Seems a little expensive... Greetings from Stockholm...
Thank you. You have made me very envious. To think that something from now more than 50 years can be so wonderful and presented in such a way it proves that the Grateful Dead are timeless and will never fade away. I hope one day I will have an opportunity to hear each of the records from this masterpiece. ✌️✌️🌹🌹
Michael, thanks for the great review. Mine arrives tomorrow, can’t wait. Europe 72 tour was one of their best and these shows were at the end of the tour when they were n top of their game. Rock on!
This may be the new favorite Boxset in my collection. Superlatives don’t do it justice. Just listening to 5/23/72 now and wow. Amazingly rich sound, warm and punchy mastering by David Glasser, perfectly transposed to vinyl by Chris Bellman. This may be my favorite Dead lineup with one drummer, Bill Kreutzmann, (though l love Mickey Hart) somehow this configuration is more nimble, less lumbering. Pigpen still performing and Keith and Donna doing their thing. Unreal Boxset here. From sound, to design, to pressing, to packaging, to booklet, the Dead do nothing half assed. Worth the money.
I just got mine, #1552… absolute behemoth. Been collecting for a couple decades now. Never seen anything like it. I was mesmerized by the packaging alone upon opening. Really psyched on this
Great video Michael! Love the new look for your channel. What a gorgeous box set!! I’m happy to see that it was packed so securely. Mine is on the way…
So I’ve been very pleased with the live shows in vinyl from the Dead. They are all cut by Chris Bellman. I have the Wembley Empire Pool, the new reissue Europe 72 limited color edition, and the Second Europe 72 from rsd 2011. Now I think I might purchase that to round out the Europe 72 releases.
Damn you 45rpm…I was doing all I could not to give into this temptation and then you come along and do this video. I folded. And, in all seriousness, given your raves…no regrets that I did. Thank you so much. (Or should I say Danke!). You’re invaluable to the community. Might have inadvertently just made yourself a beloved member of another one, too. (Haha) How’s the Deadhead scene in Germany? Does such a thing exist? “Weir” everywhere as they say! Haha….(Happy belated Birthday, Jerry Garcia. Yesterday) in any case…thx again. Sincerely, a big fan from the Big Apple, NYC! Jim K
I am not a Dead fan per se but i enjoyed your enthusiastic review! but it also demonstrates how a boxset should be done even though this one is quite unique! i will sample some of it and i may grab the cd set! Thanks
Got mine today, agree the packaging was brilliant. The first LP so far sounds UNBELIEVABLE! Blessed to have this in my collection. Dead Head for life and the love will never fade away, for generations to come.
Btw, I agree with you on the fair trade, but no way the greed and politics that pollute the world will ever allow it. Global warming, etc is largely a distraction, imo, to all the greed and corruption in the world.

Glad it arrived in Mint shape. Excellent video review. Looks has nice as I’d hoped. Been waiting on this one since day one. I ordered within a few minutes of it going live and I’m still waiting on Brown here in flyover county USA. :-).
that's a phenomenal box set - quite incredible can I just thank you Michael for inspiring me to expand my vinyl collection. I've vowed to buy one LP each month in my local record shop, and yesterday I bought the Quadrophenia soundtrack album. great stuff :-)

Great video. I’ve gone through one whole Box and no issues with the vinyl. Perhaps have Jamie Holwarth from Planget Process on soon? He does a great job of breaking down the process and is a wonderful human to boot!

Hi Michael not into the GD but I must say that the box set looks great. Love the designs on the individual boxes. Just wanted to comment about these courier companies and their charges. Here in the UK both UPS and FedEx charge a Disbursement fee of just over £10. So what you might say? But they already get paid to bring you the item! FedEx I’ve found a solution, does anyway know if there’s a way to avoid this with UPS? Taxes are annoying too of course, especially when it’s added to the shipping cost!
Mchael, you’re ruining me🤣 Bought it on the spot… no looking back. Thank you so much for your continuing work and effort! Must say that the interview with Kevin Gray and Joe Harley was epic!
The monster show in there to most of us Deadheads, of course, is 5/26/72. Even as a huge Deadhead, I won't lay out for a $500 LP set- have just spent so much on the Dead already (& have all of these shows on cd already), and am not a completist, and the other Lyceum shows are not among my tour favorites (though 4/8 and 5/3, among two of the best, ARE now available as individual vinyl sets). I wish the 5/26 show would be released as a separate lp set, I'd snatch it right up if it were.
„Good Morning Little school girl“. I loved it and still love this 18 minute version. I bought the record about 1975 I believe and still have it. Take care.
“Good Morning Little School Girl” is a great Pigpen showcase and I do love it live, but sadly the Dead did not play that song on any of the 4 dates they did at the Lyceum on the Europe ‘72 tour.
I hope I will share your enthusiam. I ordered it some days ago from the Dead Website for around 600$ incl. shipping. But for the 1st time I paid more € than $ due to the bad currency exchange. When something from abroad comes by DHL I must pay the fees always cash without getting any document about service charge, customs and VAT. I agree this has to be changed
I got the 4 CD set of the last Lyceum '72 show in that LP box on the way. And that's a lot for me. I like the Grateful Dead, but I'm not a huge Deadhead. But, that show is very highly regarded, so I figured that was at least worth getting. I also have the expanded "Europe '72" 2 CD set and the "Europe '72, Vol. 2" 2 CD set. That's enough for me, from that tour.
Be careful you don"t put your shoulder out again lifting these heavyweight boxsets Michael....glad you are happy with your new acquisition!!.....I am a septugenarian and have NEVER actually heard the "DEAD"....I came to HAWKWIND rather late in life,so I am "GRATEFUL" for that at least!!!
Did you notice that the center holes are too big on the records in your set? So far every record in my set has a generously oversized through whole that allows for considerable play once placed on the spindle...
Epic box! The Dead is not really to my taste but it certainly looks the part and seems like it was produced with passion and attention to detail. I'm in Dublin and the import duties are incredibly annoying. Puts me off US imports for the most part.
I thought Neil Young fans needed a fat wallet. Dead Heads need more. The box sets with concert recordings that have come out or been reissued lately are unbelievable. But one thing you have to admit as a non-fan. The stuff is always great made. This is first class fan service. Many record companies can take a look at this and learn from it.
It's an interesting phenomenon. I can listen to high quality soundboard recordings of hundreds of GD concerts for free. Many of these are mastered by professional audio engineers and sound great to me. For the fans with "fat wallets", or those looking for the absolute best, there are these thoughtfully-produced formal offerings. It's also interesting that the band seems to be growing in popularity 27 years after they ended. Some of that is hype, or a longing for community, but it's the music itself that remains the foundation and keeps people hungry for more. Neil Young was a lot more controlling of his music so, if you legally want to listen to Neil, you gotta pay. That's certainly his prerogative. I've spent a lot on Neil and GD and consider all of it money well spent.
@@mikel5582 I'm not fan of both, but i have an objective look to their very Fan friendly output on Vinyl/CD. And that is awesome. By the way, streaming or mp3 downloads is not my case, i'm 67 and old fashioned😉
@@theheepster I'm just behind you chronologically, and a bit old-fashioned myself. While I'm sure many GD listeners stream music in .mp3 format, lossless formats are more typical. It's not for everybody but it's an option for those with an interest. I love my vintage vinyl but don't have the passion, audio system, or ear training to justify purchasing new vinyl. The Dead has officially released somewhere around 200 shows of theirs as live recordings by this point, more or less, so if you're a Deadhead completist (I love them but am NOT a completist) it would cost quite a lot indeed! The positive in this, for Deadheads, is that the quality of the releases as a whole- show choices, quality of live recordings, quality of the vinyl pressings, packaging/design, etc.- is generally wonderful.
As I watched this I started to wonder whether Dead Heads were mostly made by seeing them in concert or if there are people who can take such a deep dive into their music without having seen them live.
I’m supposedly one of those fans that love them but never were able to see them live, to young and on the wrong side of the pond. I’ve asked myself that question many times… ( How was it to see them live during a complete tour, I did that with Pink Floyd s Division Bells tour in Europe and loved the camaraderie of travelling to city to city). I got really close to see the 3 shows in Chicago was it 2015, but life got in the way and I had to stay and couldn’t travel. But I do have many of those box sets (and those give me a great idea of how much fun it would have been seeing them live). And this vinyl reissue will probably be my most treasured GD set. With time I’ve had to except that I would never see them live especially not in their prime but listening to those recordings transports me and I honestly feel very lucky to be able to enjoy them as much as I do.
I saw them live several times (college era) BUT didn't appreciate them until years later. It can take awhile before the grab you. If/when it happens though - it's over and you're hooked for life.
Great You Tube Video ! What might help you ? You could also be first in the VC !!! Move easily 100 Vinyl Lps in a "Wooden LP Storage Crate, with wheels". This might help you make your new release videos and are fun to build ! Easy !!
500 euros is not really that much for 22 records. The fact that they pressed only on one side is total pocket overkill. But still looks really nice. This would increase the amount of Greatful Dead records I never had before getting back to vinyl 😂
I've liked their music even more during the many years I've been sober following my early days when I discovered them. Let's be fair- their musical improvisation reaches heights of much greater complexity than Keith has ever had.
Thanks Michael, great review. Couldn't believe that it's still available, ordered it up. BTW, discount code 'CC22WMG10' saves you 10% ($55.00).
Woah
$500 is a lot for 24 records?? How about one ERC record for $600 with shipping? Seems like a bargain to me!
true!
Looks smashing, Very Cool !!!!
YES!!! and its heavy :-) will you get it?
Great You Tube Video ! What might help you ? You could also be first in the VC !!! Move easily 100 Vinyl Lps in a "Wooden LP Storage Crate, with wheels". This might help you make your new release videos and are fun to build ! Easy !!
Do you really find the time to listen to all those LPs properly?
define properly... i guess not really some or a lot deserves more attention Jazz cat
500 euros is not really that much for 22 records. The fact that they pressed only on one side is total pocket overkill. But still looks really nice. This would increase the amount of Greatful Dead records I never had before getting back to vinyl 😂
24 records! Even better! This set is epic trust me. I bought it.
Very impressive 👍
The taxes thing sounds like a scam. Cash only means straight inti someone's pocket
No availability in Europe. Taxes and postages will almost double the price...
Free trade would be nice, wouldn’t it?
Always loved the Keith Richards joke on the Grateful Dead
What does a sober deadhead say when listening to the Grateful Dead? This band sucks
I've liked their music even more during the many years I've been sober following my early days when I discovered them.
Let's be fair- their musical improvisation reaches heights of much greater complexity than Keith has ever had.
24 Lps from the same tour...hard to grasp lol.
Grateful Deal equals awful music
Do you feel better getting that off your chest?
@@mikel5582 Yes I do. I'm sure you agree

Thanks Michael, great review. Couldn't believe that it's still available, ordered it up. BTW, discount code 'CC22WMG10' saves you 10% ($55.00).
Also, have you seen the pre-order for the 'Tedeschi Trucks Band' box set for 'I Am The Moon'? It looks amazing, hope it's pressed well! Pre-order at Fantasy Records.
