Great interview, Blackie has a wealth of knowledge. I don't classify myself as a Bushcrafter or really even a woodsman. I grew up as country boy in the sense of the Depression Era kid although my dad was a young adult in that period. Basically you tried to raise most of your food with a garden and small stock with fish and small game as fillers. As a side point if your plastic canteen or water bottle smells and taste like plastic, fill it with water and depending on it's size add a teaspoon to a tablespoon of lemon or lime juice and let it sit over night. Rinse it the next day and you shouldn't have a problem. Always works for me.
I always wanted to advance in the scouts, I guess we all made 1st class around 1963 and we never learned a lot. Scout leaders could readily get us lost on the few day hikes and compass "training." We got back way quicker than the "Scout Master" did trying to follow his compass. We weren't given compass, so what were we learning? They took us Winter camping one December day in the pass in the Catskill Mountains.. It got 5 below )F at 5 in the afternoon. Scary cold, many kids were in the cars with the engines running by 11 pm. I lasted until about 7am with a cheap sleeping bag from Sears. We all split by 10 am. LOL By the age of 11 we were camping without adult supervision and often camping alone. There was an island in the title river, I could swim or wade to the island, but taking care to avoid the barnacles that can cut my feet, knees, and hands. If I needed freshwater, I walked up to the house 1/4 mile away. The only primitive thing I learned on my own was cutting out the knots in a large rotting hemlock log. Great discussion. Blackie knows a lot from living and doing living history.
Enjoyed your interview! Blackie is an excellent teacher
He truly is. The passion comes through wonderfully
Thanks for the interview. It was an interesting and at times inspiring listen.
Thank you and have a wonderful show
Awesome job Guy
I can't wait this is going to be good
Let me tell ya something... sometime back in April, I was killin time sittin in my truck awaiting to go punch in and go to work. I came across my first BT vid regarding silver wolves and walking sticks. I'm 53, I grew up huntin and fishin with my grandps, and great uncs. But I had spent years workin every day and raising 3 girls, I had forgotton my love of the outdoors and hunting and fishing. Because of Blackie's channel and especially the Silver Wolves vids, I have rekindled my outdoor spirit, lost 45 lbs since May and have found a love for the "old ways" again! Thx Blackie and you sir, for putting more light on these wonderful, simple things... I bought two one wind hammocks and sold my 5th wheel this year.. "life is good"!
That's awesome brother. So glad you found the love again!
@honorableoutfitters your channel has helped as well!!! For $24 on ebay I found an old BSA canvas pack on aluminum frame, love it!!!
That was an awesome video guys !!! Would like to see you do it again sometime 👍👍
I have been looking forward to this since I watched the Dave Canterberry interview and you said you were going to interview Blackie.
I went to the Silver Wolves Class and greatly enjoyed it. Learned as much from my fellow students as I did from the instructors. Blackie and James Binder are the same in person as they are in there videos. Blackie I don't think my wife is going to go for the hammock in the house (metal hooks in the wall). But, maybe a frame.
But that hammock is going to be my go to for camping.
Great Video! Keep the interviews coming.
That sounds like a great and worthwhile experience!
Doesn't get any better than this.
Camping Clubs great idea!
❤ Weii Done, all! ❤
Awesome show👍
thank you so much!
Very enjoyable, listening.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great interview, I really enjoyed it.
Thank you, I appreciate it. I will definitely need to get him on again!
We started our kids very little and camp in the backyard. 😊
That's the best! Thanks for extending the flame my friend!
Times have changed I was hunting ruffed grouse solo at 12
And my first winter solo camp at 12 with my husky, younger with other kids raised in the Adirondacks longing for more I moved to Alaska
Hunting some really big game up there friend! I want to visit Alaska so bad...the possibility of living in true wilderness is so tempting but I don't know if I could actually make it. Especially the winters. The reality TV shows got me thinking I would struggle, especially financially as a teacher, lol. Stay safe my friend and happy hunting!
@@honorableoutfitters if there is a will there is a way I showed up with $300
2 kids and a pregnant wife
I started my own business my wife is a teacher now I’ve been here over 30 years
That is awesome brother! Thanks for the inspiration.
