Thanks for this great video! Well done… I just would like to add some information. Contrary to what you said, Ambience Sounds can be edited very easily and changed to a dry signal. The DECAY parameter works very reliably. Give it a try. You'll be thrilled. I also noticed the latency you described while playing. That can happen if: 1) Changes are not saved 2) You are not on the KIT or UNIT start page. Because then the module has to load the channel parameters for every single stroke. This weaks the performance. There are no problems if you are on the KIT start page while playing.
The only time I found out to be clunky in triggering is when I didn't save my settings. It's like it's confused until you save and then it is crisp and clean once you save.
Ended up buying this for my conversion drum set. I really like it. I thought it was a pretty easy system to learn, even with my limited experience with modules. I do have to still figure out how to save my changes. For example, i tried building a drumset from the sounds i liked inside the module. I put it on an empty kit up at like user kit 95. but when i turned the module off and back on later, it was gone. Other than figuring that out (and having to replace the faulty SD card...yes, that is a real issue with a lot of the modules. the sound would cut out for a split second every minute or so. But i contacted 2box directly and they sent me a replacement within 2 weeks) its a great module for the price!
@Rica Buenaño Thanks for that quick tip! I didn't realize the save function can be turned on and off. And I noticed that to really dive into the module, it's definitely not plug and play. However, I find the button layout and menus pretty intuitive on the surface and I had no problem getting my drum set setup. However, I am using a whole lot of 2box stuff (HH, 2 crashes, and trigit triggers) which are optimized for more of a plug and play situation. I just plugged them in and got pretty good responses right from the beginning. Im looking forward to learning even more about the module as time goes on.
Rica, you seem to know a lot about electronic drums. Im still a beginner. Im trying to use a drum splitter cable to add another tom to my kit. But when i split it, i get the same signal in two spots now. Both trigger the tom and neither trigger the “rim”/second zone. Do you or anyone know how to fix this?
Owning two of these, the beauty of this module is the ability to import sounds in from software as well as use the sounds from the 2 Box website. For 2 of these I spent less than the Mimic. Great Video
Thomas Knipe i know what you mean, for the price of the Mimic you have 2x 2box Drumit 3 modules. I was saying that these Drumit 3 modules can sound the same as the expensive Mimic module. Its ridiculous what the Mimic cost....
Do you know if you can drop the basket of a PD-125k into a 12" acoustic shell? And do you think I could use the trigger from my KD-120 on an acoustic bass drum? Surprisingly, I haven't seen any discussion on this in the drums threads.
What triggers are you using in your Pearl hybrid kit? I was thinking about buying a Pearl roadshow 4-piece kit or Tama Club Jam kit (shell pack) and converting them. I currently have a TD-30k expanded which I've upgraded with the ATV snare and hi hats and Mimic Pro. I love the look of your kit and the larger size drums are a real plus.
Hey man! I will cover everything in an upcoming kit walk-through video but UFO Drums bass drum trigger and Helensson ITM2s on everything else. The Roadshow is a great conversion candidate! I actually use a Roadshow floor tom. You can see the shallow depth 14x10 :)
Don't worry that is the plan :) I've been slowly recording clips for a direct comparison of the 4 modules (TD17, D3, Strike) next is the AD5. Shouldn't be long before I've got my hands on it. Thanks for watching!
Great review!!!! Looking to buy one. Siren question, well I kind been looking to ask someone about it. When you upload a drum cover I see on peoples description “licensed to RUclips by” and the tags and others I see that they only add the copyright infringement text but I never understood it lol. Thx 🤟🤟
Hey! Sorry the late reply. I think I'm a little confused by your question so my answer might not help but anyway lol my understanding of cover songs is either it's allowed on RUclips by the artist and it get demonetized (money goes to them) or it's not allowed and will either not have sound or they'll give you a chance to remove the copyrighted audio. The description script has no merit as to what is allowed or not allowed. Thank you for watching!!
You're drums look sick it sounds good but I tried it and preferred the strike for convenience. Also did you ever load vst with the strike using sdse. I have been really impressed just surprised I haven't seen many people doing it.
Yes actually just did some earlier today. Only thing I haven't done is a HiHat. Or at least succeeded in doing lol any help would be appreciated? Thank you for watching!
That comes down to sound choices. The fact that both modules side by side will sound identical if they both had the same sounds on them, which can be done if you sample both and load them into each module) But the strike probably will top it as a user machine because of the physical faders, large colour screen and more inputs/outputs. The 2box has NO load time, so some might prefer that over the pros of the Strike. Both great modules though and both very well priced.
There's a size limitation on both too. I believe the strike's limits is the RAM (200MB per kit?) Whereas the DI3 is the total storage, but that can be upped to 32g for a small cost which also comes with other major benefits!
@@steevidrums It's all about preference and what you're using the module for. Some people may not need sampling capabilities and physical faders, whereas others can't live without them.
Thank you! And don't worry it is definitely in the works. I've been recording short identical clips from each module (TD-17, Strike, 2Box D3) with the ATV aD5 up next then we'll have a proper head to head comparison.
Hi. Thanks for posting this video. I have a question: is it possible to chain a slave module indo the Midi In connector of Drumit 3? this way I could add more pads to my kit
That was 100% a observation based on feel so take with a grain of salt but also import to note that stats don't mean everything because the stats say it's great but I know what I experienced first hand. I felt a disconnect when playing at times which I recognized as latency (I record a LOT #atthesourcestudios ) although it seemed to change sometimes it was alright and sometimes it was like... TF... If you've ever played an e kit through midi you'll know what I mean where when there's latency it completely takes you out of the zone because you're noticing slow audible feedback from when you're hitting. It's not TERRIBLE by any means. The samples themselves more than make up for it. Some of the cymbal samples are literally 9seconds long per layer. Fckn sweet lol but yah the HiHat is the weakest and more noticeable latency unfortunately but not uncommon for a HiHat to be a weak point on an e kit ofc. I would confidently say if you're interested in the D3 it is a safe buy as long as you are mentally prepped for learning how to get through the gross menu screen lol the sample import is also not fool proof like they want you to believe. Unlike the Strike where you are able to edit the samples after the fact to get rid of any mistakes the module might have made when importing, if and when 2Box gets the layers wrong... You're stuck. It can be annoying and honestly discouraging if you have intentions to record with imported samples and realize your rim shots or hardest hits on any of the instruments will unavoidably register as mid to low level hits.
Great video man! Will you do a review/tutorial using the drum editor and showing the resultat? Like importing ezdrummer kit and then play it on the DI3. Cant find any videos on that anywhere :p
