At first he “stole” it and Kanye’s team literally told Richard something along the lines of “Its not yours anymore, its ours now” after he offered to rerecord it for Kanye at a different tempo. In my opinion its still sampling but the way they came across makes me feel like they kinda stole it. But the final recording has the re-recorded tempo and Richard D James was credited so in the end it wasnt stolen

Yes, that's because the instruments on that album are computer controlled. IIRC the piano is a model that plays itself from midi data.

Counting that disjointed rhythm in the middle and final section is difficult 😩. I'm using 1e and a, 2e and a, etc.
This version doesn't get it quite right either. Take it slow and count like you've been doing it. It'll click eventually and then it's simple :)

I remember when this came out and Richard James said he actually programmed this on a computer note by note and said he deliberately wrote it to make it impossible for pianists to play ... guess this guy proved him wrong.
