I still get tears when I hear this. I’m so glad they stuck with what made them successful and didn’t try to modernize themselves. This is pure ABBA. Best Band Ever. 😊
After almost 2 years of release i still get goosebumps and feel my heart beat faster listening to this great song and all these dazzling vocals being here again.
This is ABBAs first number one song in their home country of Sweden in 43 years! First top 10 placement in the UK singles charts in 40 years and other EU countries. Sadly never made a dent in the US billboard hot 100, but the parent album Voyage gave the band it's highest charting album in America as the LP peaked at #2 on the official billboard 200 charts in late 2021. 🎉🎉🎉
There is so much personal and emotional history in the lyrics of this song. When you know the story of these four people, their relationships and family turmoil... this has so much weight and meaning for me, at least. Another me, reloaded, a mixture of then and now... mesmerising. And ABBA through and through.
When this came out It was a really or/eargasmic, euphoric moment for Abba fans listening to the first Abba songs after 4 decades, long awaited ,sacred and tearfully nostalgic. We criewd a lot that day during the live streaming of 2nd Sept.'21.
I seen Voyage on Friday night, it has to be seen to be believed, they have recreated ABBA. They look awesome so real, they have used their best look, from ABBA the Movie 1977. It’s awesome, doesn’t matter where you sit in the Arena, it’s a perfect view. If you guys get the chance to see this show see it. I was transfixed on Frida, wow, her best look. The music hit after hit, great entertainment. The best group ever, I was 8 in 1977 and even as a child I was aware of them, their music was everywhere.
Nice to see you again, guys😊 This is a great (new) song from ABBA👑. I am surprised by the joy of the melody and above all the quality of the voice of the 'girls'... Agnetha's voice seems preserved in a time capsule, given the age of all of them (over 72 years). Well... Great react guys... Take care... See ya ❤️🇨🇱👍
So happy to see you again and with one of the two ABBA comeback songs recorded in 2017 and realased in September 2021 The big global news of this 21st century for the music world is the return of the legendary Swedish pop quartet ABBA to the recording studios after more than 35 years (the last was "The day before you came" in 1982) and the edition of new songs after 39 years (the last was "Under attack" in 1982 too) and a new album after almost 40 years (the last was "The Visitors" in 1981) Beyond that these three data are for the Guines Book of records (I believe that No Group or Singer or Artist can come close to these incredible brands), the most remarkable thing is How they returned, with what level of quality And I must say that ABBA overcame all fears, doubts and expectations Their return is shocking and his quality is still valid "Don't shut me down" (2021) it's another surprise from ABBA A pop song was expected, but there were reservations and fears for what it could be (and here I include doubts to the voices of the girls due to their age) And we find a magnificent work The beginning is with Agnetha's voice attacking with the pleasant company of the piano. What Agnetha does in that introduction is anthology, exquisite modulating and using different nuances with her mature voice. Until Benny's signature piano glint (nod to their mega hit "Dancing Queen") and ABBA's typical pop song is with us, with the fans, because the lyrics speak to us. and Agnetha assumes that decoding of almost four decades and gives us her beautiful voice as the strings grow and lead to a memorable chorus with Frida reliving the historic third voice of ABBA But it doesn't end there, the second part adds hooks and a xylophone is added to the bells (a nod to the marimba in "Mamma Mía"), and the pre-chorus has more force with Agnetha and Frida and the violins anticipate the elevation to a chorus triumphant final anthology reminiscent of their greatest hits And it ends, like the begining, with a soft and sweet Agnetha voice and piano melody (nod to "Thank you for the music", as the begin) "Don´t shut me down" is the new and last ABBA Masterpiece now in my Top5 of all ABBA songs at the same level of Waterloo (1974) S.O.S. (1975) Dancing Queen (1976) The winner takes it all (1980) or others ABBA worldwide hits and greatest songs "Don´t shut me down" was #1 in Sweden and Switzerland #5 in Germany, #9 in UK among other internacional charts now we have the new album "Voyage" since last November 2021, and the new ABBA Concert in the new ABBA Arena at London since last May 2022 (with ABBAtars of Themselfes) Thank for your great reaction and for Your respect to ABBA music see in next ABBA viídeo I hope that it will be "I still have faith in you" (the other ABBA comeback song recorded in 2017) GOD bless You my best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
The key to the lyrics is they’re written from the perspective of one of those digital ”abbatars” they use as stand-ins for themselves in their current resident show in London. Quite cleverly they initially trick us to believe it’s about an old lover seeking out a lost love, but it’s about their relationship to their fans, and an appeal from the abbatar to give them a chance and not shut them down, as it were.
They said they deliberately ignored modern trends or influences and just decided to write what they know how to do. Hence why it sounds very Abba-ish rather than some modern incarnation.
About the Production It was a conscious decision of all 4 to record an organic,'trendblind' album, non autotuned ,non generic and overmodernized, Pure retro-nostalgic.People aproved!VOYAGE was 2nd best seller album in the worldwide list of 2021 with only Adele above!
I've seen more enthusiasm for a cucumber sandwich, but if if you aren't older and weren't an ABBA fan then the all those poignant emotions and feelings of nostalgia and love that their comeback and this song and lyrics elicit wouldn't be so emotive. It is nice that young people can still appreciate ABBA at all really.
In my opinion you should choose the song package Does your Mother Know+Hole In Your Soul from the 1979 Wembley concert (actually 6 concerts), so that you get to know another side, namely the rock one with full energy and passion. Have fun!!!
One of the greatest bands ever. Unbelievable they came back after 40 years and all the relationship drama between them (I am sure you know they were 2 married couples) and they kept true to their iconic sound not trying to sound like today's crappy auto tune songs. I hate auto tune. If you need auto tune you shouldn't be singing. Either you can sing or not. True talent. Agnetha and Ani-Frid aka Frida voices sound the same. Maybe because they hadn't Been singing so much it preserved their voices? And Bjorn and Benny can still write a song. Try another new song from their newest album called (I still have faith in you) Frida sings lead and omg. I am also sure you know they are doing concerts with avatars. Benny says don't call them holigrams lol. Much better and soooo rea. They built a special arena for the shows.l the group spent months for 10 hours a day wearing special suits with 160 motion capturing cameras to get their actual moves on evert song so it's really them moving but the avatars look like they did in the 70s. It is sold out months and months in advance. Only in London now but they are planning to come elsewhere soon.
Since their brand has seen a resurgence from the 70s and 80s, I’m glad they stuck with their sound. The depth of their lyrics against the catchy sound of their music is one of their trademarks.
lol.the guy seems kinda bored but i see it's not his kind of music so it's ok.I love the videos VOYAGE Thumbnail.Already iconic nowadays.Abba's return was for many of us like perfumed lifeline oxygene. This song is a loveletter to their fans and had very emotional impact.Album shot to no1 in 18 countries.
I have to say the young reactor looked rather bored and unimpressed. I, for one, really enjoyed it. Voyage is an amazing comeback album. They did themselves proud! ❤

With this song, the band is nominated for the second time in a row for Grammy Awards highest honor of Record of the Year 2023, they've lost to Lizzo's About Damn Time. Another nomination for Don't Shut me Down is Best Pop Vocal performance by a duo or group but they lost to the song Unholy by Sam Smith and Kim Petras.. The Grammy sucks😤
Certainly the best on this album. They still deliver! ( and the production is not really better, it is clean but lacks something the old albums had. Maybe its Micheal Tretow the genuis sound engineer. He is sick and did not work on this album.

I also agree on their sound direction and also feel similarly emotional each time i stumble into this one and 'Faith"..
After almost 2 years of release i still get goosebumps and feel my heart beat faster listening to this great song and all these dazzling vocals being here again.
Same here and as always wish more songs were coming from the Swedish fab four
This song was and is the most pleasant surprise in the history of pop music and Ill never get enough of it.
Totally! It floored me in 2021, and still does. I've only listened to it about 2000 times

True. But it is Frida's voice in the chorus that gets to me...... The combination of the two voices is pure magic.
Hi This is definitely a great tune. ABBA sounding more matured but still ABBA. They still got it❤
Brilliant Brilliant record, an instant classic. ❤
Absolutely fantastic. And their voices together. Can you imagine that they ar about 70 years old.
So happy to see you again

Well the boy is not a musician you can tell, hi hi. Boring to watch!
ABBA recorded all of Voyage “trend-free”. They did not want to do anything influenced by today’s pop, mainly because pop now is rubbish.
Love ABBA! Beautiful voices and music!
Classic ABBA, imagine this following Mamma Mia in the day 1976
Great album!

Agree.
I can’t believe Unholy beat this song for the Grammy
I disagree with the production is better its more modern and cleaner but the orginal songs are very complex in sound and i love ABBA old and new
The sound is not better I think but its a great very complex song
It's like watching Norman Osborne and son Harry react lol
Harry looks a bit bored though ;)

Definitely missing the Michael Tretow **sparkle**

Could the younger guy on the left be ANY more bored? Why do reaction videos if you’re not going to react? LOL
it's fun but very bad. what a horrible song!
Marvelous! Let’s stay in touch?
