You’re spot on with your analysis IMO. On its surface, the song is a standard “I want to get back in your life” love song. But the song has a deeper meaning for ABBA and it’s fans. From the moment the band broke up in 1982 the world has been begging for a reunion, but they always resisted. Now 40 years have passed and they’re mentally and spiritually ready to go through it again. This song is their way of saying “Ok, you asked for it and we’re back. But please understand time has passed, we’ve grown and please accept that growth and change.”

I agree, the deeper meaning is a message to the fans. But I also think these two new songs are designed to fit into the avatar show next year - maybe opening the show. (I think Bjorn's wife would protest if this was actually a love song for Agnetha).

Agnetha already had a long career as a schlager style "singer songwriter" behind her, and Frida was oriented to the jazzy latin bossa style. Isn't it great that all members of ABBA are in their 70s now? Agnetha is now 71, Anni-Frid is 75, Benny's 76 and Bjorn is 75. And after a 40 year hiatus, for ABBA to have come up with these 2 georgous newly released songs are unbelievable, right? Plus a whole 10 song new album is coming out this 5th November 2021😍
Don't Shut Me Down has Agnetha on lead vocals while I Still Have Faith in You has Anni-Frid on lead vocals..
Agnetha is a soprano and Anni-Frid is a mezzo-soprano, both voices have their own strengths and class, and when these 2 harmonises, its pure bliss and joy as these harmonies ARE the sound of ABBA!
Not to forget the other 2, Benny and Bjorn who have always been great composers, truly sublime in their lyrical and music compositions, music arrangements and production.

The band have said that the new album 'Voyage' is really all about coming back and their feelings about it. They really didn't know how they would be received again and the girls in particular were worried about it. A new show touring next year will be avatars (they call them Abbatars) of all the band and should be something special to see. Best wishes to your friends. Lead singer in this song is Agnetha (the blonde). She was married to Bjorn (lyricist, usually played the guitar). They had two children. She wanted to be there for her kids. Her main reason for leaving. Anni-Frid (the redhead) was married to Benny the pianist. They were only married three years and also divorced, no children. They’re responding to their fans plea to return and are ready to do so. Nice reaction

ABBA. their music is timeless. Anyone criticizing Abba, can rest in the sure knowledge, they are part of the minority. Every song is exquisite and embraces all generations. The music, the voices, the harmonies, the lyrics are next level. Of all their songs, it's difficult to select a favourite but I'll have a stab at it. 'The day before you came'. From an aging OZ devotee.

I love your reaction on this song. As a fan, Abba invokes many memories from the 70's and now 40 years later they do it again so this was kind of emotional and means much and now that Abbatars were created they are forever immortalized. Even though they are in their 70's they still have that 70's sound. They created so many hook songs. I'm 71 yrs and overjoyed that the younger gen can enjoy Abba. I per-ordered their Voyage album coming Nov 4. Thank you both Peace..

Bjorn likes lyrics that can be interpreted in different ways, so it can be both about them or a relationship in general.
After 40 years, it just takes you back. They sound the same, and the Abbatars on stage are their movements combined with technology to make them look like they did back then. I'm so thankful that they got back together. I've been praying for them for decades after their painful parting so what an answer!

These lyrics are so brilliant. They have so many layers one can find, like of course the personal level, now and then and personal transformation, but also them being reloaded and decoded as Abbatars, don`t shut me down. How amazing is that? This song got immediately stuck in my head, I absolutely love it. And hearing those voices again after 39 years still sounding as amazing as ever, is like a miracle.
I really love watching your reaction. Thank you.

You're both so perceptive in your reactions. You're the first I've seen who understood the message behind the song.
They released a 2nd song the same day that Frieda sings called I still have faith in you which is beautiful, well worth a listen 🙂

There isn't really a lead singer. It depends on the song and how the voices suit it.
Like with the Beatles. Sometime Paul will lead or it could be John or George - even occasionally Ringo.

Hey great song great reaction. Love this song and the fact they are are doing concerts with super real looking avatars or abbatars as their fans are calling them. They built a special stadium for it. The band members spent months wearing some ial suits with 160 special cameras that captured every move so it's actually them. A must see. Can you PLEASE DO THE OTHER HIT SONG FROM THEIR NEW ALBUM 'I still have faith in you" Frida ( the brunette) does lead vocals and it is amazing. The band broke up because they were 2 married couples that got divorced.

Really Great Reaction.....however NEARLY ROB NEARLY MY FRIEND.....You were with a Whisker of pausing 5 seconds from the end and I was watching that dreaded right hand of yours like a HAWK and when I saw it move to pause I thought NOOOO but at the last moment, you realized and let the last few seconds play. You can always glance over to see how much time is left, my friends. As it was it was a GREAT REACTION as you paused (if you must ) at the right times and you both got the message immediately which some of the other 32 Reactors I have seen , so far, never realised so, ultimately, well done. LET THE MUSIC FLOW,My Friends :)

After 40 years the genius songwriting of Benny and Bjorn is a good as ever. The lyrics and the dual meaning behind them of someone wanting to come back into a former loved ones life but also the metaphor for the bands comeback are incredibly clever and the musical arrangement is just exceptional and has that clever ABBA “hook” that you just can’t help but keep on singing.
The vocals of the girls are as sensational as they’ve always been, especially Agnetha,s lead vocals and I for one am over the moon that they have released this new material and can’t wait for the new album to be released in November. For me ABBA are completely unrivalled in the pop music world, there will never be anyone again who can produce brilliant pop songs like they do.
So Sorry to hear your sad news, sending love and prayers to you all 🙏🙏 💜

You are correct “Don’t shy me down” ,Deals with agnetha’s relationship with bjorn long after their divorce ,Hence being in the park outside their old apartment and her surprise decision to reform the band. The other song “I still have faith in you” deals with Anifrida and Bennie’s relationship and how she still has faith in him ,when he suggested the reunion of the group.

I really like this song. I love Abba and I am just glad to hear new stuff and although you can hear the age in Agnetha and Frida's voices, they are like fine-aged wines, wonderful. Yes, you're right Amber, it's about them coming back into our lives as a band, which they had resisted doing for years until it was right for them.
