Great advice, thank you.Very simple and good solution.
Glad it was helpful!
First time I’ve heard the tip of tipping yhem in. Nice. Love it. Wouldn’t have though of that!
Glad you liked it!
Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video, about to do something similar in my garden. Any tips on how to slow down wood rot?
You can try treating the wood with an outdoor stain.
Try treating the ends that are cut also
For sure!
I've seen a few videos like this, and they always use something square like a railroad tie or 4x4 as the front. I'm looking to do these in my suburban side yard, little steeper - was thinking of using 2x6's as the front boards to give more rise. Do you think that would work?
Yes, definitely. As long as they are firmly secured they will be fine. You could even use a large oak log and firmly fasten the 2x6s to the top and front.
@@HowToVideoChannel thanks so much for the response - appreciate the feedback. Thinking I’ll do 2x6’s for the front, just regular garden stakes, and thinking about using some paver base if needed to backfill, and possibly pavers as the tread.
Awesome! Let us know how it goes!
Do you start from the top of the slop or the bottom when laying them?
Up to you.
Probably easier to work downhill rather than uphill though.
Hi I don't understand why would steps prevent erosion?
I have a steep hill that is causing problems everytime it rains hard, bring down soil and water trails in the hill
Steps can help direct the water flow.
They also help hold the ground in place.
It basically a sloped retaining wall. In this example the tie would stop the soil from coming down with the rain.
around where I live there's a LOT of granite so getting a stake through that deep is pure luck
You may have to use rebar and a sledgehammer. Or you could use a small auger/drill to provide a pilot hole for the stake.
same here. i could maybe do it myself or pay some alot of $ to do it
Having the same issue. Makes me afraid to start with the steps.
I did something like this a month ago with plans from woodglut.
Nice!
