You're a nice guy, so I'll say it for you. That d-pad is absolute garbage. Companies like this who keep releasing bad d-pads (and controls in general) in 2024 need to fold and stop clogging up this space with these terrible handhelds.
@@MuhammadAbdullah-em9ps R36s is way different, due to being a classic dpad. It's a bit stiff, but you can definitely tell where you're pressing as compared to this.
I struggled with reviewing this as well. I have had every intention of making a setup guide but I just can’t figure out how to not make it an hour. So much wasted potential here. After my E6 never worked I really hoped the Plus was going to fix most of the problems
Thankfully, it was a necessary "difficult" for me. I love retro handhelds, but talking about them, even when they are great, kills my joy. So for the time being, I'll be putting that aspect on hiatus, I never fully committed to them in my content despite them always doing good and I understand why now, it took the E6 Plus to push me to admit that. Sorry that was a bit out of nowhere but yeah, it was a struggle alright.
Sadly, it is indeed hard to. Unless it’s a project, type of situation. But in the right hands, some work could be made further to get it right, not for everyone…
@@GameTechTalk I just found the Switch V1 is kinda like an amazing value as a retrohandheld and the availability of parts for repair is so much easier. I would expect the next console to be the same (with probably PS2/GC/Wii capabilities)
@@jierenzheng7670 Totally fair! I haven't dabbled too much with emulation with the Switch v1 but I do think if I had, I would've sought out to install Linux or Android. The only game I tested was Henry Hatsworth and the experience was unfortunately very sub-par but that was most likely an early build of RetroArch running on Nintendo's native OS. Are you emulating on native OS or another?
@@GameTechTalk Yea I triple boot with HOS, Android and Linux. I emulate mostly on HOS with homebrew and occasional old android games. Anything that needs media decoding and vulkan probably needs to go to Android/Ubuntu until someone is willing to make a homebrew that uses the SDK to make full use of Switch drivers/hardware to run games. But CPU and RAM bandwidth is really bottlenecking. My V1 has an aluminium back cover to help cool for prolong overclocks nearing the maximum limit, so I think I am at the limit of how much I can push it for emulation and even then PS2 there's stutters reasonably often for 3D titles.

D-pad, not at all. Face buttons are ok, shoulders too. The sticks, all things considered despite not being my favorite, work decently enough with the ergonomics. The ergonomics are by far the best aspect of this handheld. You want to tinker, hardware and software wise? You might actually enjoy it alright. As long as you know what you're getting into! :)

Now, full disclosure Klef, any device Wicked critiques positively, as a rule, are absolute e-waste. Just my opinion here now, this device, sight unseen, is no exception - absolute e-waste. Just saying lad.

I guess it is optional to the viewer to "shop around" for the review they want to see but from where I stand, the term e-waste does seem fitting but it is better than 95% of what I would consider it to be. It's not that far off to be viable, it just needed more time in the oven. Eagerness killed it's potential!

He just seems to just shill for Powkiddy these days although some of his reviews are entertaining at the very least and very misleading at their very worst. I didn't think I've ever made a single purchase based on any recommendation from his channel. That statement stands on it's own as a testament. Just my opinion of course young lad.
Quite frankly, I am putting this handheld out of commission for now, I have extended a hand to the dev that I commit to revisiting it in a month or two if they can fix some of the issues but until then, it wasn't a positive experience so I'll be absolutely honest, I have no intentions of revisiting that frustration any time soon. I'm sorry to say. Thanks!

Seems pretty hard to justify this device when you can get a trimui smart pro for like 55 bucks these days.
Sadly, it is indeed hard to. Unless it’s a project, type of situation. But in the right hands, some work could be made further to get it right, not for everyone…
I kinda wished it was like the RK3588 instead but I'll probably hope for a hackable Switch 2.

Very interested in this device for cheap widescreen PortMaster if the buttons and controls are good
