    It is a real business and it is in fact just that, a business. It's a pay to play organization.Its a for profit corporation. They send me letters twice a year, and I have friends with terrible GPAs that have been invited. They are not very selective at all. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but, this is just a business looking to make a profit.

      @@aim4grace97 my main question before I spend like $100 on this. Do they provide a lot of scholarships? A certification is a certification, it can be done somewhere else and also it still has to be re-certified. If there are plenty of scholarships then I’ll join

      @g_factking 2 года назад +7

      @Dominique Ranee that's a one time fee. When I got inducted back in 2017 it was only $65 flat fee

      @@g_factking And still is only a 1 time fee. This is not true at all. Only selected students earn their invitations. If their GPA drops from the minimum requirement of a 3.0 the student’s GOA must be reviewed by its institution to ensure they still meet the minimum requirements. Sometimes, people luck up and not go through the reevaluation.

      @@flamingBBQ22 From my understanding, those are optional, as you can stop at any level you complete and receive an award/certification for each of the 3 levels: foundational, advanced, and executive. I believe the last two are currently bundled together as a package for a discount if you choose to pay for both, but you start off with the foundational level after receiving your invitation to enroll for that $95. That's why they give you the option to purchase the advanced and executive leadership certifications with a "No Thanks" option during checkout. I could totally be wrong, but that's just my understanding in case people wanted to get further certification!! I just completed their orientation quiz for the foundational level and am awaiting to hear back after it's approved so I can go on to the training day stuff! I'm waiting to speak to my advisor next week before I make any further purchases for the NSLS. I wish you luck on your academic journey to success!

    Just to expand on this. There is a one-time fee after accepting your invitation. Some other Greek letter organizations have annual fees to be considered an “active” member. Only selected students earn their invitations. If their GPA drops from the minimum requirement of a 3.0 the student’s GPA must be reviewed by its institution to ensure they still meet the minimum requirements. Sometimes, people luck up and not go through the reevaluation process.
    Students can also receive invitations based on their “Leadership Potential” given that’s what this organization is all about. Potential future leaders that have showed some form of strong leadership qualities. ❤️ I hope this helps people with a little more clarity. ΣΑΠ🔴⚫️

    I was skeptical in the beginning but after further research I decided to join. This video confirms that it was the right decision even further. The NSLS’s goal is to craft future leaders of tomorrow. You don’t do that by sitting still. Go through the processes and you will gain valuable information and resources. You will gain confidence and networking opportunities. You’ll get the push that some of us need to make a difference in the world. I just completed my Executive Leadership certification through them and it was one of the most humbling and rewarding experiences I’ve been through. I’ll close out with this, my very first live broadcast was with Mark Cuban. I participated and got a really great shoutout from Mark and even won the “logo or no-go” game we were playing. That alone, made the initial sign up worth it for me. Having the opportunity to talk to leaders like this is an amazing experience. I look forward to speaking with Bill Gates as well.

    Thanks for the video! I had never heard of the NSLS until today when I got the invitation. I am a recovering heroin addict but In my third year of college. A select few of my professors actually know about my past. I have had all A's since I started but I am a shy person. Being nominated for something with "leadership" in the title leads me to believe that overcoming my past has something to do with the nomination, not my leadership capabilities. So my question, have you known many soft-spoken people to join the NSLS thrive there? I don't seem to fit in anywhere I go, so I am weary.

      I live in Georgia, so I’m not sure what running start is. However, using context, is this a high school student who is dual enrolled in college? If so, I think that’ll be great to get involved early! Because if you are a junior in high school, that would make you a junior in college when you graduate. Then, you’ll only have 2 years in your membership if you wait that long.

    Yes it’s a business (just like your school) but if you’re someone who’s trying to study into a specific profession I think joining the NSLS could help. If you have no volunteer experience or organizations under your belt, for some reason I do believe having something is better than nothing when it comes to strengthening your application packet

    You get what you pay for. Any honor society that accepts freshmen with a 2.3 gpa is a scam. Give me stinking break.
    Ok maybe scam is too much. But cmon man an honor society that accepts first year students carrying close to a “get out of here” gpa? Cmon man. Oh and it’s 175 now.

    NSLS on a resume...(stupid question, but I'm kinda dumb so....) is this like an academic resume or a work? No one ever explained this too me.

    • @MariahJackson
      @MariahJackson  4 года назад +8

      No dumb questions here! That’s actually a good question. It would probably be a lengthy answer, but I’ll try my best to keep it short. Your academic and professional resume can be the same thing. You will need an “Education” section on a professional resume that you will use to get jobs. If you need a resume to get into a certain college or college group/society, it will more than likely be different than your professional resume unless you haven’t worked anywhere. NSLS can be listed under Education included in a paragraph about your school. Or in a separate section dedicated to your extracurricular activities/organizations. If you were president for your college, you will definitely want to include that in it’s own section. NSLS can go in this section.

    1.5 million+ members yearly
    $95 sign up fee
    $150 million in membership revenue
    $400,000 in scholarships per year??
    Sounds very ‘blue pill’ to me
